Teachers were a law unto themselves as regarding their children back in the day. We, especially as firstborns had to be the best, no room for laziness in any aspect of life. My mum, may her soul rest in peace, passed on when I was only 20 years old, she was only 52, but at times, even now in my 60s, I still hear her voice. The Yoruba proverb says if your pounded yam is not much, you must prepare it thoroughly. My translation might wrong but as a long awaited child and then an only child for some time, people expected my mum to spoil me rotten, but no way. She was thorough and I thank God for her, although I did question whether she was my mum those days🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Oh, my Dad took charge of my brother and I whenever Mummy went back to school for her TTC. This was so common in the 70s and 80s, at least in Enugu. But from the 90s, men began to say they can't take care of the homefront while their wives work or do something to better themselves.
