Remember most people had never seen this footage in 1955 so it was the first time this now infamous and iconic imagery was unleashed into a largely unsuspecting world...
(I hardly need say that my channel title (aesthetic of the image) does not - and could never - refer to any of the horrendous images in this film; they are palpably not 'aesthetic' in the spirit I set up this channel - however, they are still very potent (if terrifying) images.)

I went to Auschwitz in 1984 when it was still relatively unvisited by tourists - and the memories of that forbidding, forlorn place have never left me.
