I've been a night auditor for 6 years now, working 7 days a week between 2 different hotels. Most guests think we're in some back room sleeping all night. 90% of the time it's quiet, but what we get paid for is that other 10% of the time. The sad reality is that there are a lot of evil people in the world who do terrible things. That other 10% of the time is just brutal sometimes.

I love it! I have a interview coming up for a different hotel and I worked 2 night audit jobs in the past. To me it matters if the hotel is in or near a ghetto neighborhood or not because if its not it's the easiest job in the world but if it is you can see a little bit of everything and the customers are a lil more annoying but even worse case scenario half the time your doing nothing and I rarely struggle with staying up because I typically use the time for studying (pursuing a accounting degree and I play competitive chess) and occasionally I'll watch a movie or something.

I have worked every front desk shift and I must say that Night Audit is my favorite. It is actually the ONLY shift I will work at a hotel. It definitely depends on the area. Every Hotel I have worked for has allowed the Night Auditor to lock the doors after 11pm so thats a plus. I have had to call police quite a few times but I have been working NA shift for almost years now. Than for posting this. And hats off to the rest of my fellow Night Auditors!

I work as a night auditor, I’ve been doing it since 2021. For most of my colleagues I don’t do anything at night but they don’t understand. As you said most of the employees don’t know exactly what you do they just see you leaving in the morning. What saddened every time I got elected for employee of the month I never got the win cause they don’t know me. One raining night I mopped the floor for almost 5 hours and they didn’t even care,ugh, sometimes just wanna give up. In our hotel I’m substitute chief receptionist but when my chief left they didn’t give me the position cause they think the receptionist is better knowing I was the one that trained her into the job all these disadvantages wanna make me to quit. Time will tell😊
@HotelGuestManagement

It’s funny you said that, day receptionists thinks that you don’t do anything or they are better at their jobs then you. Little do they know that you are the one that corrects all the mistakes and you see who is good and who is weak at their jobs. I dt think you should quit. I stared as a part time security guard and worked myself up to a management position. But, I would never underestimate my audit team. Financial and Accounting plays a big part in the hotel industry and any other business. Stay positive and believe in yourself. Your time will come.

Been in hospitality for 29 yrs along with being an auditor, GM, AGM, FOM and everything in between. Use to be a great job but the 3rd parties and corporate guest have ruined the hospitality industry. No more Mom & Dads with the families, well at least few and far between. During the mid 2000's with all the credit card fraud that happened with the less than scrupulous auditors they simply made auditors glorified desk clerks taking away all their responsibilities of doing the accounting paperwork and balancing the hotel before running the audit. Which took most of the night. Use to be GM then Night Auditor in command. That's how important the Audit position was! We knew everything about the hotel and how it ran and we did it all on our own. Now auditors have to do all the frivolous crap like laundry, cleaning, etc. You new guys have no ides how easy you have it.

The Marriott system is actually easy once you get the system down. Night Audit is the best shift with Marriott. I've worked all shifts with Marriott. Which is under the Fosse system as apparently some Marriott's have newer hotel systems. Fosse can seem annoying, but it's at least simple once you get it down and the fact that you can just type makes it so easy to check someone in really fast. The other thing is it will show you how many rooms available and you don't even have to print reports that you need to see status of rooms and who's leaving and who's arriving. Plus the cash register is set up so you can just scan items. Opera, is like omg you don't even have that option because you just put the amount that each item is.

Reason I ask is that there are TONS of openings in my area, I’m just looking for part time and they have the need. I’m just a bit wary, as I feel like it’s the #1 place people would go to isolate / get away from their family to ride out their COVID infection. Have you heard anything along these lines?
