@kari-karislinedancing6146 Absolutely, i wasnt old enough to go into nightclubs, but we did Disco Nights at the Roller Skating Rinks in Australia. In the movie it looks like they are doing the last 4counts as Fwd, Back, (Fwd), Hitch 1/4. But its hard to see all the little things in the footage. Ive tried both ways and the side touch seems to set you up better for the 1/4 pivot, but i still use Fwd. I like the exact little nuances the dancers use in the movie though, from leaning into the claps, to (cross) kick ball change, to occasional random hand rolls sometimes in the vines, and 1beat hand rolls between the disco points/seatbelts. Would love to be able to move like John, he flows so loose. Ive also seen other Tutorials do the hip bumps in double time, while still doing the disco points on the beat 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 ...while the hips are going 1&2&3&4&5&6&7&8&. It looks great, but i havent been able to time it right yet (the syncopation between hands doing one timing, and the hips doing another)​ is tricky.

@@gypsysteve3576 Love that you had Disco Nights at the Rink and that's how you know this music! Yes, the nuances and different styling in the movie absolutely adds to the fun and it's great you're trying it all out. Keep working on the double time hips and straight-time points - you'll get it with some practice 😉 The problem with the movie is that they clearly used a bunch of clips in that dance scene vs the whole group of dancers dancing to the song from start to finish, so if we try to dance along ie via the one complete song it won't align with the movie characters but I suppose we'll just have to get our own group of people and give it a go! @@kari-karislinedancing6146 Thanks for your reply Kari. Yep totally agree, the movie footage is so disjointed. A few step sheets ive seen actually start on the last 4 beats fwd heel, back touch, fwd heel 1/4 hitch. And i realise that this is the 1st actual proper dance sequence you see in the movie, But that just feels weird! And seems unpractical to start dancing on 5 6 7 8. Actually the real start of the dance scenes appears to be john with a girl either side with an upper body shot moving side to side, likely a vine or side step, and a Kiss thrown in too ...now that would make the dance more authentic lol. I believe Lester Wilson was Johns choreographer in the movie. There is a site on his choreo, whixh is same as how you teach it. Whichever way, we will always make it our own styling in the end. @@gypsysteve3576 Yes, I totally follow you on all of this and when I was writing up the choreography step sheet for this dance and prepping to make the video it was that scene you mentioned with John and the two girls and the kiss that was the best representation to draw from. Definitely hokey these days but also a feel-good scene and nicely chuckle worthy. That info about Lester Wilson is interesting. Good for you for diving into line dancing, and thanks so much for your kind words about my videos! I don't plan to return to ACOA but you are certainly welcome to join us in Littleton! If you haven't yet discovered my website it can be really helpful whether you dance with me or other instructors. The How-To Videos menu option, www.karislinedancing.com/newcomer-videos, will help you learn all the moves you need to aid in your transition into any beginner class. Don't try to learn them all at once, but just one or two moves per day is a great way to learn and retain. The Class Option menu choice, www.karislinedancing.com/class-options , will let you know about our Littleton classes too and feel free to contact me directly if you need more. And whatever class you take, just know there will be a transition period, just get yourself in the middle of the dance floor (so others surround you on all sides), try to go regularly, do what you can and don't sweat what you are struggling with, enjoy the ride, and you will absorb more than you even realize with each session. The most accurate version. The thing most people don't get, is the film edits the dance, and it flows quite badly. The pointy bit wont always fall on "Night Fever, night fever" but if you want it to, youll need to stop the line dance in mid flow, and jump straight to pointing, 4 times, rolly rolly quack quack (duck/chicken flap) walk forward 4 steps and clap on 4, and back 4 steps, straight into pointing again. The true line dance done here will not sync to the song, so to look good, practice what i said, keeping step with the beat, with cool swagger. don't do it like your nan would line dance guys, have some flare, and show off like Tony

Yes, right! In watching it myself to create the choreography for the step sheet and to make the video I too realized this and it's unfortunate as it would be tremendously fun to dance it all through with the characters in the movie but sadly doesn't align like that. The process also made me aware that this probably happens frequently when watching films with dance scenes i.e. the footage is most likely not continuous but only a compilation of bits and pieces they decided would be most entertaining!
