No one did not teach him how to play, he learned listening his dad's records...Monk, Basie, Ellington. There's a 60 MINUTES episode on him. Check him out!

One of the greatest musical shows ever. Not a single mistake, except this one. Donald Fagen who hated to play live, and then just forced to play one of the greatest compositions ever. Sitting there silent, behind a DX-7. The humans will never learn.

Not sure if Donald Fagen hated playing live ..think he just hated touring & the shenanigans that went with it (drug misuse, alcohol & groupies etc)..DF is all about the music & production.

Omar Hakim - Great drummer!
@got2bharmony7 жыл бұрын
This video is becoming more and more priceless as the opportunity to see bands of this calibre and originality in their field disappears. You really can't beat Omar Hakim, Marcus Miller and Hiram Bullock as a rhythm section and Phillipe Saisse is a highly underappreciated musician (and all the others too). Great to have a legendary host in David Sanborn who regularly hired those guys on his most successful early albums. Jools Holland is a strange fruit and a musical minnow compared to these guys, but to his credit he promotes a vast spectrum of music and gives new talent a chance on mainstream TV which doesn't exist elsewhere. Thanks for uploading and sharing, many good comments posted already, I watched this upload years ago, not sure why I didn't thank the poster then.

I miss everything about this program: the host, the format, the content, the talent, and most of all, the timeslot-it was the perfect nightcap on a Sunday night. I first heard of Earl Klugh by recommendation of one of the most beautiful girls I ever met while at Northern Ill. University (Maria Garcia!). I'd already been greatly familiar with George Benson, and it just so happened the two recorded and toured with their "Collaboration" album, coming just off of Klugh's fabulous "Wishful Thinking" album. Both are faves of mine to this day. I saw them on this tour at Chicago's Arie Crown Theater, and I've never looked back. Klugh is just a fabulous, unassuming talent to listen to. His pairing with Benson, a natural one. In no time I was familiar with others in that category of music, including Joe Sample, Bob James, Dav Kos, among others-I was already a huge David Sanborn fan. These are two great performances and songs by both Klugh and Sample.
