Every Saturday night my friends and I would stay up to watch Night Music. As teenagers we looked up to them. Now, as adults, we revere them.

This was the best tv music show ever. I’m so glad a lot of them are on KZbin. Betty Carter, Branford, Willie, George, the whole band and Betty’s band. The treasures are endless here.

Turned to my right while sitting at the bar in a NYC club. Sitting next to me was Betty Carter. I thanked her for her music and we chatted a bit.❤️

Young Branford Marsalis was just sick! So much emotion in his playing! My all time favorite, David Sanborn, never fails to impress.

I love Betty's trio with Darrell Grant on piano, Troy Davis on drums, and Tarus Mateen on bass. Those are some extra-bad cats!

I was wondering if that was Taurus Mateen supporting her on bass. I don’t think he would’ve been recording with her by this time. What year was this recorded? This show should’ve had a longer run

There is nobody like Betty Carter! She’s in class all of her own! And always has top-notch young musicians playing with her. She was like Miles Davis that way and had her own school you went through by playing with her.
@beeshor12 жыл бұрын
@@teddypantelas Yeah, she was something else! When you think of all of the great musicians that played with her and Art Blakey and Miles and Horace Silver, you get a Hall of Fame type roster where the personalities are almost recognized by just the use of their first names or last names alone. Jazz history is so rich and colorful that it becomes a treasure hunt for people like me. I'm always rewarded whenever I investigate the music and the stories and the people. It's all a gas!

Giant of the Chicago Blues, Mr. Willie Dixon. Dude is integral to that gritty, Electric, urban transformation of the Delta sound. Which in turn inspired the British Invasion bands.

I wish there was a show like this these days. Featuring jazz artists with a few pop acts thrown in. That's what's really missing from all the streaming services--a cool, hip music show.

I would watch this show every Sunday night at midnight on WNBC Channel 4 New York City right after The Sports Machine with the late George Michael. Great musical program that transcended through many genres. A great show to get ready for the week.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. This show was unprecedented! I enjoyed watching them during its brief but exciting run on NBC during the Eighties. I think that Marcus Miller is doing something similar now with his entertaining Marcus Miller and Friends show. We need more of these wonderful collaborations and potpourri of styles. There's certainly the audience and media formats available to showcase them. Thank you and God bless all!

Betty took Branford to school on their collaboration! Her performance reminds me of an article when Charlie Parker was asked "Who do you think the greatest improviser on their instrument and his reply was Ella".

The only moments of this show that ever fail (aside from the humor/Jools) are the self-contained acts that either can't or won't play nice with the others. Offhand the one that comes to mind is the Pixies, and I know there are people that think they're great and all... They are, in my opinion, wrong. Compare what they do to what any other random act on this show does. See? There are mildly interesting "acts", and there are musicians. This is a show for musicians. If you weren't one but got booked here, you stuck out like a sore thumb. We'll never see the likes of this show again.

Gigs with Sting,probably.I think he had to be halfway around the globe one day after a show,tops.And the only think to practice would be "compressed" licks.Just like he said,he had to tell his life story in 8 bars or less.
