I sang this as a teenager & now I’m 75. My mother was the choir director. I’m amazed at how much I remember

I'm back, playing this in a dismal December and being reminded that the great truths of scripture are unaltered despite the upheavals in the world. Thanks again for posting! I join in the applause of the people of Schererville. "The word of the Lord endures for ever" (1 Peter 1:25)

When you sing a Peterson cantata, you are singing scripture to music. It is beautiful and brings back memories when I was young and in a choir.

I remember that time.. We were young n energetic , full with passion to serve our Lord Jesus Christ. We practiced this cantata even 3 times a week but we were so enthusiastic.. n finally we performed in front of all the congregation.. Big applause.. But all the Glory for Him only. Our effort was paid. Hallelujah

This cantata performed by the Community Christian Church of Manchester, Mo., Dec 12, 1971, my mom a soprano, my brother and I listening from the pews. Pianist Alice Walker, her husband Rev. Paul Walker, Choir Director Ralph Totsch. I was 14 and the precious recording we have still brings tears to my eyes.

Feeling very nostalgic. This brings back so many memories! Picturing my dad on the piano, my sister on flute, other relatives and church members singing in the choir. Many have gone on to be with the Lord, and these works are lost arts. Thanks for sharing.

I can't believe this cantata is still around! I still have the songbook from when I sang my first solo at 14 years of age, from this cantata. I sang it in Spanish, Duerme Santo Niño. I play it in my home every year for xmas and love the way the piano music just seems to naturally flow from the fingers. Beautiful music, beautiful message. John Peterson was truly inspired by God when composing this cantata. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing it here!

It's still around. I have a piano/vocal score of it, as well as Love Transcending and No Greater Love (Easter cantata). They're a part of my basic music library.

Here am I playing this in a blazing June heatwave, a) because I've always loved it, and b) because I want to say Lord, if you are willing to clear out all the idols and rotten attitudes and behaviors, there is room in my heart for you.

Our church and others used to get together to do Peterson Cantata's on Easter and Christmas. They are so beautiful! I played the piano for them and the piano score is wonderful fun to play, your pianist, choir and orchestra did a great job here. Thanks so much for posting it! (I was searching for a good production of Behold the King but not found one yet!)

Wow! You all were amazing. I sang this in my church choir years ago. I always hear this music when I read the Christmas story from the Bible. I can hardly believe you are a church choir. You sound like professionals. Your musicians are also amazing. I like to imagine we sounded like this, but I’m sure we were not this polished. I loved he violinist. Thank you so much for posting this. I will be listening to this many times this Christmas season.

Where did you find the orchestration to this? I'm working with a choir this Christmas who has never sung any John W Peterson. So far, they love it. But I would love to have the orchestration if I could find it, even for a couple of strings like you are using, at that point this is all I need. But I don't know where to find it.

We didn't have any - just very talented instrumentalists using the piano reduction.

You would need to contact the John W. Peterson Music Company. The only available score that I am aware of is the piano/vocal reduction.
