The 'Go Monster Squad' is written on a wall in the bathroom scene with Steve. While they were filming this scene director Fred Dekker had just been informed that his 'Monster Squad' script had been ok'd to be filmed next, hence why the text appears here.

"Screaming like banshees...hahahaha..." "Night Of The Creeps" is a fun tribute to B-grade, sci-fi and horror films with some off-beat college humor. The studio didn't promote the film strongly because it wasn't your typical horror film at the time with the smart plot. The characters share the same last names with famous sci-fi/horror filmmakers. So it's fanboy/geek-centric. It influenced the likes of Kevin Smith and James Gunn. The Bradster is played by Allan Kayser, who played Thelma Harper's grandson, Bubba, on the syndicated version of the sitcom, "Mama's Family" (there was an earlier version on NBC that lasted one season) which was a spin-off from a recurring sketch on "The Carol Burnett Show".

In the theatrical version, it ends with Chris and Cindy kissing, then she notices a little dog at her feet. She kneels down, and the dog spits out a slug. The whole part with the burned detective and the alien ship scanning the cemetery are omitted. Also, I think I recall the director's cut having a few more scene with the girls in the sorority house talking. The shower scene might be exclusive to the DC as well. When this played on the various cable channels, sometimes the alien speech at the start didn't have any subtitles. And if I recall correctly, the theatrical version just had English subtitles. The alien subtitles were added for the DC.

Allan Kayser (Bradster) is best known for his character Bubba on Mama's Family from 1986-1990. He was SO 80s! Jason Lively, the star, is half brother to Robin and Blake Lively, and also played Rusty in the subsequent Vacation movies after AMH went onto stardom in Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, etc.

I love how the opening covers every horror and sci-fi genre of the 50s in one go. There are also a lot of references to genre directors with the character surnames and location names, like Corman University and characters named Cameron, Landis, Raimi, Cronenberg, and the lead and his friend are Romero and Hooper (who also has the middle name Carpenter).

I had the pleasure of attending the cast and crew reunion screening event at The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas. I met the cast and writer/director, Fred Dekker. I got autographs for my old VHS of the film. There's even footage of me that appears in the special features on the DVD and Blu-ray (the film is coming to 4K soon). During the Q&A session, I told them that George Clooney is listed on IMDB as having appeared somewhere in the film, but I never spotted him. It was revealed to me and the audience that Jill Whitlow (Cynthia) was dating Clooney at the time of shooting, so it's very possible he could have snuck himself in the background of a scene or something. I guess the search goes on.

I think the alternate ending with the ufo is far more effective here. ominous at the thought of more slugs/zombies out of the cemetery, the aliens trying to figure their mistake out there, and chris/cynthia at least having a chance at survival together. didnt like the cynthia probably dies from the dog.

As a kid, I would watch a VHS of Haunted Honeymoon (you should check that out, btw) that had a trailer at the beginning for this movie. I spent years hunting down a copy to see it for myself. It's been one of my all-time favorites since I finally tracked it down and saw it all those years ago. Its now one of my small selection of LaserDiscs. Such a great send-up to multiple decades of the horror genre. And Tom Atkins was awesome in this. Worth the effort it took to find a copy! Something about the alien that sent the creeps to Earth: notice it had glazed over eyes. It was a creep host! There are many, MANY references to horror directors, writers, etc. in this movie. Cameron, Romero, King, Landis, Carpenter, Hooper, Miner...just to name a few.

I know "Night of the Creeps" by heart. A perfect little comedy horror movie highlighted by the legend that is Tom Atkins and a fun cameo by the equally great Dick Miller as his classic and oft repeated character, Walter Paisley, originally from Roger Corman's 1959 "A Bucket Of Blood". I especially love the injoke name homages to horror directors: Corman, Raimi, Cronenberg, Romero, Carpenter, Hooper, Landis, Miner.

I have never seen that ending. I liked this one because it gave some hope, the original(presumably) ended with no hope for the characters. There is an unofficial sequel that I have never seen. I think it is called Zombie Town. Probably watched the other version 100 times. I wore out 2 VHS copies and have it on DVD. Now, I have to get the Bluray. The best references were the characters named after famous horror directors. Romero, Carpenter, Cronenberg, Craven, Hooper, etc. This was kind of a love letter to B horror flicks. The Bradster was not from Married with Children, unless he had a guest role in an episode. You are thinking of Ted McGinley, who played the Marcy's second husband, Jefferson D'Arcy. He played Stan the QB in Revenge of the Nerds.

A character in the background in the opening 50s scenes asks someone if they have seen "Plan 9 From Outer Space," which, if you didn't know, was/is considered the "worst" film ever made. It is very unintentionally funny and the grandaddy of films like "The Room" and "Birdemic." The Tim Burton film "Ed Wood" is a highly fictionalized account of the director and his work with Bela Lugosi at the end of his life, and it includes the making of Plan 9 in the plot. Ed Wood and Plan 9 would make a great double feature.

The theatrical version and the original VHS version of Night of the Creeps had a totally different ending. The scene with the zombie corpse of Ray Cameron and the alien spaceship flying above the cemetery was cut out. Instead, it ended with the dog approaching Chris and Cindy as they were kissing, and when Cindy saw the dog and bent down to check and see if was okay, the dog spat out a slug at Cindy and the scene immediately cut to a black screen with the end credits rolling.
