John Russo has been milking the success of "Night of the Living Dead" for years. One gets the impression he's irritated because George Romero's career took off and he became an iconic figure in the industry, while John Russo has never made anything worthwhile. In fact, everything he touched was garbage. Yes, he wrote the novel to "Return of the Living Dead" but the script was reworked by Dan O'Bannon. John Russo hitch a ride on that film, even though he did absolutely nothing. Romero and Russo co-wrote "Night of the Living Dead", but comparing the two careers, you have to question which one brought more creativity and which one was riding the coat-tails.
@williamhiers12807 жыл бұрын
I dunno. Having read the novelization of Night and the original Return novel, I contend Russo is a pretty good writer. Not great, but decent enough. He also novelized Dan O'Bannon's Return, and that was pretty good, too.

@KillThad6 жыл бұрын
@@caigemalinowski5247 What happened was at the time the original was made, the copyright notice had to be in the film itself if you wanted your film to be copyrighted. While most people would put the notice the end credits, Romero decided to put it on the title screen. @LPTV847 жыл бұрын
Honestly if he wanted a 30th anniversary edition, he could of just made a special feature where they acted the cut out segments and not add it into the film. I do wonder what was it about the priest character he wanted to follow? Like? If I had handled it, and with a competent actor, I'd actually show a dilemma of faith. Nothing in the Bible claims the dead will rise in the sense that oh these dead bodies will rise from the ground as rotten corpses, but it claims a day will come of judgement from God and those who were dead and faced judgement before this day will live again in new bodies. So here's a character in a world that is the opposite of that story in his belief and maybe have him questioning God and belief and either lose it and fight this horse or accept it without knowing to keep believing and fight against this horde. No instead we got what I believe was a jab at Christianity or priests or religion in general with an annoying guy. Yeah those people exist, but in a movie like this, he would be killed or cowardly escape ... and I AM A CHRISTIAN so ... wow 30th anniversary, you failed in every imaginable.

The newly shot footage doesn't match because nobody looks like they're in the 60s, least of all Reverend Hicks. I'm not sure that shaved head and beard combo was popular with priests at the time. He looks *WAY* too modern. And what was the point of making the first zombie a child murderer? Who the zombies were in life has *NO* effect on what they're like as zombies in this series, because regardless of what they were like as regular humans, they're *ALL* murderous cannibals once they become undead. Hicks is also remarkably inconsistent regarding the dead child killer; if he thinks the guy deserves to burn in hell, why insist on saying a prayer at his funeral and object to the father (Art Kranz?) spitting on him. Pick an attitude, Reverend! And, Phelous, it's interesting that you defend the 1968 film's "original" music - there was none. It was *ALL* stock music. Not a single note was written for the film. The fact any of it matches up at all to what's happening onscreen is a testament to music supervisor John Seely. It's thus not entirely unreasonable that thirty years later the filmmakers might want to replace the stock music with an actual original film score.
@ZION730825 жыл бұрын

Tbf Tom Savini despise it because they forced him to delete most of the violence and more important scenes to avoid a higher rating. And I think most of the people hate the remake for the same reason, since Savini is well known for his splatter style, and got disappointed after seeing the movie unaware of the cuts. Since then he keeps a VHS recording of the workprint where he usually takes it to horror conventions and screen it to the audience (he considers the workprint his favorite cut)

Never been 'lucky' enough to see this version but I've heard nothing but bad things about it and now I see why.

I can't tell which films are more insulting: This or the star wars special editions

Unless you're talking about the Blu-Ray changes, I'd say this one.

Another great video, Phelan. You should review more Doctor Who specials and the 1996 movie. No offence, but you sound like you have a stuffed nose this time.

Holy shit...That actually looks worse than what Harry Knowles made it out to be in his review back then. And he made it sound like it was worse than the Holocaust.

Why in the hell didn't the priest turn? Mr Russo needed to remember small details like people bitten by zombies turn into zombies.

That's a good question. Russo has a penchant for "meaningful" things that actually don't say anything; it strikes me that he was trying to say something with Hicks (the reverend) being somehow immune to the zombie bite, like that his faith protected him (even though it didn't stop the zombie from actually *biting* him), but it just goes nowhere.

Why does the music sound like it should be in a doom mod?
