Quite simply the best teacher for beginners on the internet, not only talks to you in layman’s terms but actually shows you on two popular makes of camera. I am so glad I stumbled on you Paul two years ago as a complete novice, I attempted a shot of the moon and completely screwed it up, asked the question on my iPad and it led to your Vlog on YT on the subject. Haven’t looked back since and regard you as the “go to guy” for simple to understand advice. Have a great Christmas Paul and an even better new year 👍👌📷

I am very, very much a beginner at photography. I have tried reading books on all the settings and taking pictures, it was so complicated, frustrating, and way over my head. I found this channel when searching to take moon shots. All I can say is WOW, hands down the best i have found, absolutely love it. Thank you so much Paul for giving us beginners a place to go. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Great videos and greetings from the UK 👍👍 Being an oldie I still remember being slightly limited by the ISO (ASA) of the 35mm film I loaded into my camera and using a cable release on Bulb setting It’s good understanding the relationship between shutter speeds and aperture Modern cameras are so clever it’s made “proper” photography much more accessible which is a good thing

In addition i would say, yes a prime lens can improve low light performance, but i would rather go to something like a stabilized 17-55 2.8 lens or even a Sigma 18-35 1.8, the standard zoom range is something i dont want to miss, and its a joy with a 2.8 aperture making low light photography handheld very easy which is on the typical kit lens sometimes an issue with F4 to 5.6 I used for years full frame and a 50mm 1.4, definately something you cant compare to APS-C and a 2.8 aperture in low light, but especially modern APS-C cameras handle high ISO well enough to make 2.8s just fine, no need for primes unless you are really looking for a pleasent portrait or macro lens. Especially the few times photographing this chrismas time i barely took off the Canon 17-55 2.8, just a few times i used a 10-20mm lens for some wider, interesting scenes which was going off always very fast since its just a F4-5.6 lens and it annoys me heavily to use ISO 6400+ on APS-C

Perfect timing for this tutorial right? Completely opposite of what you taught me about moon photography so now I own the night. Only differance is here in the States we've got snow and the cold to deal with. Is there anything I should know about acclimating my camera to the freezing outdoors? CHEERS!!
@seeker9257 Жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, l have enjoyed and gained so much knowledge from your vids. l have what may be the stupidest question you have been asked, but here goes anyway. Is it possible to get closer pictures of the moon using extension tubes with a 600mm lens and if so, which extension tubes to use.

Hi Paul, Love your channel and the way you present information in a clear easy to understand manner. I have a Nikon D5100 DSLR camera and would like to see a review on this model on your channel. This doesn't seem to be a very popular model based on the lac of attention it receives on photography channels channels like yours. I see lots of information presented on the Nikon D3000 series cameras but virtually nothing about the D5000 series models or higher. Are these models inferior or less desirable in some way? I would like to know your thoughts and comments about these cameras. Love your channel. Tom

Thanks again for a terrific video. One question tho. Christmas lights tend to flicker on and off all the time. How would you go capturing them as long exposure would be all blurry?
@photogenius Жыл бұрын
The lights will only blur if the camera or lights move (fence the tripod), so the fact the lights are flashier is not a problem. Thanks for watching Paul.
@SenorGancho Жыл бұрын
Great instructional technique and your integration of visual examples is first rate. Nicely done; however living in Canada it is still a 'leap' to look at Christmas lights with a palm tree :-) Especially when we are suffering through a cold snap keeping me inside watching videos instead of taking pictures. As good as my IS is, it doesn't account for shivering at -30ºC Yikes. Thanks again.

How do you get correct focus in low light, or night, photos and also make sure you have the correct white balance?
@mariaolivia5938 Жыл бұрын
Hey Paul! First of all thanks for the video, I just realized that my canon 2000d (Europe) came with the kit lens (18-55mm) but without the stabilizer button. Is it normal? I do not have a steady hand at all… 🙃🙃🙃
@photonspark Жыл бұрын
I dont use Canon system but would highly doubt a kit lens having built in stabilising (more expensive). Many cameras have the stabilising in the body instead of the lenses (or available in both), meaning you could use a cheap kit lens and still have stabilised photos with any lens you use.
