Professor Agar, having recently returned from Icebox Gallery's annual Highway 12 Road Trip Photography Workshop, is excited to share his his nighttime photography tips with you!! Obviously, expert. The final print is inspirational I suspect you may have gone with the 20 second print exposure to get the jet black in the sky and restrained street lamp, and maybe some dodging to keep the house lighted for the contrast, but I don't know. It's interesting that the light meter couldn't read the light, the digital camera recommended F11 for 4 seconds, but the photos were taken at 30 seconds and one minute. I'm assuming the choices were from experience; possibly with the intent of having a negative better balanced to work with. Fortunately, you didn't have to worry too much about density issues. Thank you

Could you make an episode where professor Agar explain how to "read" a negative? You know under/over developed, under/over exposed providing some examples and how obtain a good print in the darkroom with "problematic" negatives. Thanksssss!!!

The balance of irreverence, seriousness, and excellence is without equal in these series of videos. I can see why the Tice image inspired; there's just so much about it that compels. Our tiny burg here has two water towers ... I think they'll be featured in some of my upcoming attempts at this!

Great technique and approach to low light photography. Everyone else is "pushing" film for low light -- under-exposing and then over-developing. This technique is the complement: over-exposing and then under-developing. It will be interesting to see how the two techniques differ in their look.

He's funny and entertaining and I learnt more about exposure watching two videos than from any other resource online. I wonder if he talks about how one could handle and expose color film at night?

Thank you so much Aficionados9!! Glad you find our videos helpful! Professor Agar doesn't use or teach color film. Color processing uses different chemicals and equipment and is very precise-much more so than black and white. It is extremely important to be accurate with temperatures and agitation control. Here is a helpful article on color film processing at home: petapixel.com/2012/10/26/how-to-process-your-c-41-film-at-home/. I’ve seen photos developed by one of our viewers using a C-41 processing kit and they were amazing!! Professor Agar says, "With black and white I find that you need more exposure and less development to counteract the highlight build up. With color you face the same problem but with shift in color needing filter. I have never made long exposures at night with color film but shoot digital on a tripod using Photoshop to color correct." great video thanks. ive a question on pulling film. if you are pulling development by 1 stop (n-1) what percentage should you subtract from normal time given for box speed? im pulling tri-x to 200 in id11 and there is no data on it only 11mins for 400asa.
