Terrific hard/glam rock band. This is a power ballad about the drummer's (Kelly Keagy) little sister, Christy. When the song was practiced, the words "sister Christy" sounded like "sister Christian", & there it is. The band says "motoring" refers to cruising. BTW, SOME of us who listened to Iron Maiden ALSO listened to this type of music, as well. Thanks for your reaction.

The drummer Kelly Keagy, who wrote and sang this song, is from Elmira oregon a little town outside of Eugene, Oregon where I lived at the time they were huge in the 80s. I delivered furniture to his Mom and Dads house. I didn’t know thats were I was going until I got there and the furniture was being put in a new addition they had just built and as I was taking the furniture in I noticed gold records on the wall and other music awards. I verified it was his parents and they said they built the room to house his music stuff and have a place for the band to hang out when they came through town. I saw them live in ‘83 at Oregon Jam and met them at a record store signing in early ‘84 and they were the nicest dudes, very down to earth.

Night Ranger was a band who played AOR most of the time. AOR stands for either: Adult Oriented Rock Album Oriented Rock Arena Oriented Rock/Arena Rock/Stadium Rock This was mainstream rock in the early 80s (Journey, Kansas, Foreigner, Survivor, Triumph, Boston, Loverboy, Waysted, Reo Speedwagon, Asia) Wikipedia excerpt: The song is about Keagy's little sister, Christy. Keagy wrote the song at his apartment, near Divisadero and California Streets in San Francisco, after he had just returned from a visit to his hometown of Eugene, Oregon. He had been struck by how fast his teenaged sister, 10 years younger than he was, was growing up.[9] "After we started playing it a lot, Jack turned to me and said, 'What exactly are you saying?'" Keagy recalled. "He thought the words were Sister Christian, instead of Sister Christy, so it just stuck."[9] The lyric, "You're motoring. What's your price for flight? In finding Mr. Right?" is the subject of much debate. The band stated in a VH-1 Behind the Music interview[10] that the term "motoring" was synonymous with the term "cruising". ............. AOR was later replaced by Glam Metal (Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, Poison bla bla bla) and Poser Metal (Bon Jovi, Skid Row) as mainstream rock. Glam trace their influences back to KISS, T-Rex etc Glam was the replaced by Sleaze Metal (GunsnRoses, Sea Hags, Dangerous Toys). Sleaze trace their influences back to bands like Aerosmith. Glam and Sleaze then got replaced by Grunge, Alternative, and Groove Metal. They got replaced by Nu-Metal (Korn, Shineshank, Slipknot, Linkin Park etc) and Metalcore (Avenged Sevenfold, Alesana, Trivium etc)
@narvik9035 Жыл бұрын
@kbrewski1 In the German Rock radio stations, they played Glam while AOR became something old fashion. For me AOR, Glam, and Sleaze are mainly the same style musically, but glam and sleaze changed their image. In Germany we call the music American Metal as an umbrella term. In Germany, the masses listened to what was trendy and new. Glam was new when it started. Therefore, AOR became old among the fans. When GunsnRoses released Appetite For Destruction, Motley Crue etc became old fashion. AOR was not replaced but Glam and Sleaze Metal were like a New Wave of American Mainstream Rock - at least in Germany.

Motorin' is another slang for Cruisin' - i.e. teens driving around town as way to meet up with others. Sometimes that resulted in everyone meeting at some location to party that was not determined ahead of time so the authorities or parents did not get wind of it. See movies "American Graffiti" and "Dazed and Confused". Jack Blades of Night Ranger went to the supergroup "Damn Yankees" with Tommy Shaw (Styx), Ted Nugent, and Michael Cartellone(now with Lynyrd Skynyrd). With Tommy and Jack on awesome vocals and Ted on the shredding guitar, they produced some great stuff in just the few years of the band. Check out the song "COME AGAIN" live from Raleigh '91 (close to my hometown) or the official video. "Silence Is Broken", "Where You Goin' Now", and their biggest hit "High Enough" are ballad/rock combo songs. Jack and Tommy are also "Shaw-Blades" doing stuff between their bands obligations.

Love the 80's guys, but there's so much music in there of lots of different genres. It certainly will take you years! I was the opposite to you here, I recognised the band and song title but couldn't remember the song. But then after ten seconds it was 'Oh yes, that song'! I wasn't a huge hair metal fan, although I was partial to Bon Jovi from time to time, especially 'Wanted Dead or Alive'. Richie Sambora's solo is one of my faves. Great fun reaction guys!

Nice job guys that's one of those songs you remember hearing growing up but have to go online to figure out what the lyrics are haha. Back in the 90s we didn't have the ability to get on Google and figure it out quickly...also I had to walk six miles in the snow to school everyday haha jk. I'm in my late 30s so have tasted life before cell phones
