NIGHT SHIFT VLOG | INTENSIVE CARE UNIT | DAY IN THE LIFE OF A NURSE | NHS

What a shift 😭!! I faced so many challenges working this night shift in Intensive Care Unit!! I was caring for a very unwell patient, whilst also battling the heat in full PPE 🥵 on one of the hottest nights in summer.
You will see how tired, dehydrated and stressed I became. I was even contemplating whether or not to upload this because of how much I struggled :(
However, I believe it is important to highlight the challenges we sometimes face in our profession, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. All professionals were tested both mentally and physically during this time….and whilst there may be a comical factor to this! I sometimes look back and think, how on earth did I work through some of those shifts!

Hi zara! Great vedio. I want to ask you how many maximum patients you get every shift? And this breaks you get, it depends on condition of unit or this is compulsory breaks for everyone?

Hello Preeti! in ICU it is 1:1 nursing care, so one patient to one nurse! Sometimes it will be one nurse to two patients! So we have compulsory breaks (its a 12 hour shift and so important to have a break in between), but the duration of the break depends on a number of factors e.g. understaffing. Hope this helps :)
