Being of English, Irish and German descent, I’ve always thought of those countries as the motherland. When I was a kid, Piccadilly Gardens actually resembled a ‘gardens’, and you’d see kids playing there, office workers catching a bit of Sun on the grass, students courting etc… Then they let a zillion immigrants into the country and decided to redevelop the gardens to resemble a Soviet Gulag. My son was studying for a degree when the lockdown came to town. He loved jogging around the park, training for the park run in Manny.
