Fascinating portrayal of antisocial personality. Calculation to the last detail. Incredible damage to the society. Absence of empathy will destroy any relationship or render it a prison to a captured soul. At the beginning Nina had an upper hand, but in this scene she is already in abyss and she has no clue what just happened to her completely incapable to resist. 4% in US have antisocial disorder, and yet the damage is enormous and goes under the radar undetected because the rest of us have empathy and always try to justify their unjustifiable behavior. We need to be maximally alert and at any sign of no empathy we have to run because there is no defense against these people. Our own ability to emphasize render us incapable to resist.
@fractal97
@fractal97 5 жыл бұрын
@8w9hf89hw The problem is that 4% are those diagnosed cases. There are many more undiagnosed ones. They never ask for help because they are perfectly fine and happy with themselves. They don't need treatment, but those who come in touch with them do. I'd estimate there are at least 10-15% cases who never cause problems sufficiently to break the law, but create a substantial damage to the society and to individuals like my ex-wife did to me. Here is the article that considers how much damage they do to us and it all goes under the rug. www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/pathological-relationships/201008/60-million-people-in-the-us-negatively-affected-someone-elses?amp

@8w9hf89hw Yes, I was married to one. Of course I read your comment and apart from some incoherent rambling about toys and kids, maybe some hints about yourself, it appeared as if we are on the same page. But that's was your point to prove how it is easy to fool a neurotypical. Yes, it's easy, but it doesn't last long. The longest pretence you can make is a year research shows, after that it's too much effort for a sociopath to fake empathy which he or she doesn't have because they are zero-empathy people. I have 20 years of experience with a sociopath woman. So, you don't need to worry about me. All one needs is to read Without Consciousness, Science of Evil and Sociopath next door, to connect the dots. You strive to have an upper hand it seems, but it's mildly entertaining at best. Sure, I'm trembling already because a sociopath can find me. Bring it on.

If you rewatch he says “when I say a particular number is my lowest price, that’s my lowest price” then proceeds to say he arrived at THAT number very carefully, NOT his initial bargaining price. Very meticulously said and very fast, easy to miss
@BadMannerKorea
@BadMannerKorea 5 ай бұрын
@@ICETAKAHASHI No, he said before that he wants to stop our discussion about prices, so he's clearly referring to the entire discussion. And he never specifically stated any number was his lowest price. Your comment would make sense if he said the $15,000 was his lowest price, but he never said that, he arrived at $15,000 just as he did with $100,000, apparently "very carefully".

The fact that this cunning business woman, presented as very inaccessible, "devil wears prada" style...and that after his psychopatic rant, she looks at him like he's the hottest man she's ever seen is A+ character writing. Showing us that this dude, who became a full psycho by crawling after dark news...is, in journalism, just a brilliant and handsome young man with a promising career...both ironic and chilling

Why compare? This and the joker from 2019 are totally different movies. This movie is about a psychopath that will do anything just for "Success" and is willing to kill someone if needed, and the joker movie is totally "Not" a joker movie and its all about a loner with mental illness living in a corrupted city that is full of people that makes him more crazy and change his persona just so the people can have a respect for him and treat him like a real human.tldr

Gyllenhall is without question one of todays finest actors. Every role Jake plays, he just nails it. This performance is arguably one of his finest. His sinister, creepy 'I could kill you and I wouldn't feel a thing vibe' just permeates the screen. That's the one problem with these types of roles. The audience picks up on it virtually immediately but Nina is oblivious to it? There's a scene in the movie where Louis is telling Nina about making a list of the reasons why you'd want to get into a particular field. His robotic intensity is inappropriate to the moment and nerving to the audience, but admirable to Nina. When the movie is good enough, though, we will allow certain stretches of logic and that's certainly true here. I could do a "Gyllenhall movie marathon" some weekend and for sure it'd be a pleasure watching Mr. Gyllenhall grow into the Pantheon of todays most talented actors. :)
