Ted Koppel, first to interview Mandela after his release from prison, asked an unexpected question.

Mandela made the ‘did i paralyze you’ comment because Koppel was speechless when Mandela called out his clear bias during the interview. It was a long awkward silence from Koppel after Mandela’s response and hence he seemed to have been paralyzed.

Lone voice? Madiba was always at pains to point out that he was not alone, but a member of an organisation (the ANC), which itself joined up with others to form a larger group (the UDM). His comrades included Walter Sisulu, Oliver Tambo, Ahmed Kathrada, Winnie Mandela, Govan Mbeki and more. Past struggle veterans include Chief Albert Luthuli (who won a Nobel Peace Prize) and then there was the new generation who came after him, including Thabo Mbeki, Terror Lekota and Cyril Ramaphosa.

A man that understood the need for all South Africans to work together. Say what you must about the evil committed on both sides, A South Africa divided will slide into civil war.

The question Mandela was asking when he paralyzed Koppel was regarding Mandela's support for the Palestinian people.

Many of the whites in South Africa did not support apartheid, but knew that handing power over to the ANC would lead to full blown communism. That is where South Africa is now.

Lafarrus Pennington anyone who chooses to kill innocent people will always be a murderer. Black on black violence far out weights the white on black statistics. And that was only in the years leading up to the ANC being elected post apartheid.

Daar is 'n sekere waarheid in jou woorde, Marcus Dayton. Mandela het vir De Klerk ore aangesit. Maar Mandela kon nie PW ore aan sit nie. So lank as wat Mandela 'n geweldadigde omverwerping van die Regering ondersteun het, sou Mandela in die tronk bly. But it is also so that when a person die he normally put a cemetery. That means he must get out of jail. What did America did to Bin Ladin? Ben Ladin was never in a jail...
