I hate to tell you, but it's 100% legal to buy a gun from another person. Do you think everyone is gonna background check? Do you think this person or any other person would be unable to get an AR15 even if denied by an FFL? Eventually, gonna find someone without scruples. As outraged as you want to be about how easy it is to get a firearm, the real problem here is that this person was able to get an AR15 into a MEGA church without being stopped by some level of armed security. As unreasonable as that sounds, the only thing you can really do to be safe against an armed attacker is to fight back... having a gun helps equalize the odds. I wish people had better mental health support, better health care, better social supports for jobs/kids/education/housing, but the reality is we are all chasing the same dream here in america and that requires some level of self sacrifice. Turning on others with a firearm is a crime, should be treated as such, and if you have a place you want to be crime free, you need to take steps to protect yourself. That is the advice of the police, when you ask them.

Actually it isn't. Yesterday I went to pick up a gun I special-ordered and made a single innocent mistake on the purchasing form. My attempt to purchase was declined, I'm locked out of the system for 30 days, the store (Dunham's) can't hold the special-ordered gun for 30 days while that clears up and has to return it to the warehouse where it came from. And holy smokes, I HAVE A CONCEALED PISTOLS LICENSE which required background check, fingerprinting and legal classes to obtain!

It is true that there is little to no legal help our law enforcement can assist with in regard to people with mental health issues. My family has gone through the same thing as the poor neighbor. Most of the issue is due to the legal system, awful lawyers (not all lawyers), and too ambitious prosecutors/DAs who twist the system who and the situation for self benefit. The rest of us the system begins to fail due to these greedy personnel. I really wish we had more ability to provide more medical help for those suffering from severe mental illness…thus reducing worry from their families.

Any one that’s in the age bracket of social security which is “62” and beyond is considered to be OLD and unfit for the workforce.
