Before United States military members train for combat, they have to fuel up.
We traveled the country to find out how the US military feeds service members, from mobile field kitchens to military academy dining halls. We also asked a New Zealand Army soldier to review US military MREs (Meals, Ready-to-Eat).

I was a USAF Reservist back in the early 1980's. I swear that's the same spaghetti there at the 1:05:23 point ! Really good spaghetti, always loved it. Actually, the Air Force always had really good food. Even at Lackland (BT)..... Surprisingly good. The funny part was that you had to drink two small glasses of water before you could sit down at every meal. Pretty much a way to keep everyone at least somewhat hydrated, and it was a bit hot there in July/August. GREAT times, though. Loved it. 40 years ago here next month. Sad. Wish I could teleport back.

While stationed in Georgia, I witnessed one of the cooks spitting into a large sauce pan. Never ate at a chow hall again. Being lower enlisted, It was incredably expensive to eat on the economy.Later, a bunch of cooks were demoted for it. When asked why they would spit in the food, most of them admitted that they hated certain shades of people, specifically the more pale ones. Command assured everyone that the food was safe and everyone was ordered to visit the chow hall. Like I said, never ate in a cafeteria again.

If you're deployed to a location where there is a large cave then maybe that might make a good place to consume your MREs as doing so in the open is likely to attract the attention of IR enabled UAVs and result in you and your troops getting picked off and you don't want that.
