We just arrived in Paris and it's been quite the journey. The airline lost our luggage and there's no sign of it in the tracking system yet. Will we get it before our trip is over? Today is my birthday, so I guess we're going to do some shopping before dinner or we're not going to have anything to wear. I can think of worse ways to spend the day in Paris.... definitely a silver lining, although I'm not going to pretend that wasn't what I planned to do on my birthday anyway 😉
Update: Just this morning, we received an email that they found our luggage and will reach out once they are ready to transport, but no idea when that will be.

We had our luggage lost with a German regional airlines. It was a quick flight from Hamburg, Germany to Venice, Italy. Fortunately we were in Venice for 10 days so after 2 days our luggage arrived on a boat to our hotel which opened onto a canal. The good part was I did some shopping for one outfit each and underwear (fabulous sexy underwear for the hubby!!!

Yes. Multiple times, now I use AirTags. The last time the airline never found my bag despite that i kept telling them where the Airtag was, they were completely useless. , I finally FOUND IT after ten days at another airline's lost and found. CDG is really bad for this.

When I was leading a student group of teenagers to France in the early 2000's, the airline lost the students' luggage {I did not check mine} and I was with 5 teenage girls without makeup, hair products, hair gadgets or fresh clothes for about 3 days...THAT was an adventure!

I’ve found that Air Tags aren’t perfect, but are helpful in the sense that you’ll know where your luggage is. Airline Lost luggage folks can use Air Tag info to augment their luggage system.

Oh dear, we’ve been there with Heathrow (or as we call it, HELLthrow). We have avoided it at all costs for several years now because it’s never a smooth event. They keep saying they’re updating their processes but from what we hear from friends who fly through there all the time, nothing seems to be happening. At least after all that, you’re in Paris 🎉 Happy Birthday KJ 🎂 Have a loverly time

I have never had a problem at Heathrow ... because I plan ahead and know that it's going to be challenging due to its size. After all, think about it: London is the largest city in Europe, and Heathrow is the largest airport on the continent. I check Heathrow's website ... I ask questions in Google ... I don't check a bag. If you travel in this day and age, you have to realize that it isn't like traveling 20 years ago. You have to be on your game.

But be aware that certain airlines have strict size and weight limits for BOTH your carry on and personal item, which makes it very tricky to pack unless it’s just a short trip. It’s worth checking before you book!

So sorry this happened to you. Here are some tips that have helped me that you might consider if you’ll be connecting on different airlines in the future: -Get yourself some AirTags that you can use to track your luggage on your mobile devices. Cost 35€ for a 2-pack and worth every penny. Available in Paris at the Apple store in the Marché St-Germain, or thru Amazon. -Take pix of your luggage and the contents before starting your trip in case you need to make a claim. -Carry a change of underwear and one outfit in your carry-on luggage, especially if you’ll be celebrating an important occasion. It is cool in Paris this week, so hope you have enough warm clothes! Happy Birthday!

Air Tags are helpful to know where the luggage is and you can tell the airlines, but does not bring it to you any faster, which is horrible anyways.

@jolies5329 28 күн бұрын
@@lulugoulart5014 Agreed, but at least AirTags give you an idea of where the bags are, so you can estimate time of arrival. Also I find the airlines are a bit more responsive if they know you can track your bags from yourcend.

I recommend you fly out of Miami directly to Orly…..get a hotel room the night before so you don’t have to worry about traffic. Many hotels will keep your car a certain # of days included and will charge additional fir additional days If your going to be gone a long time best to do a park in a longer term lot and Uber to your hotel. Make sure the hotel will transport you to the airport free when booking.

Same weather when we flew in April from Halifax to West Palm Beach. On hold in Newark for hours and hours waiting for a break in Florida storms. Heathrow is a nightmare for connections. Yes they (and here in Canada) liquids rules are still strict. I think they’re being extra careful on seatbelts since the major turbulence issue with many injuries happened recently. We noticed it in our recent flight home from Heathrow. Have a great time in Paris and Happy Birthday🎉

KJ, don't feel bad about crying about your flight. We were booked on a British Airways flight from Basel, Switzerland to Heathrow. Our flight got cancelled so they booked us on the next one out. When we arrived at the Basel airport BA told us they had my husband's reservation but mine was nowhere to be found! Worse yet, they said there was nothing they could do about it and we needed to talk to American, who our trip originated with from the states. We had to call American 4 times before we finally found someone to help us. I was in tears because I envisioned myself alone in Basel while my husband flew home without me. I still don't understand why BA couldn't retrieve the reservation since we were already booked with them before they cancelled our flight. It finally got sorted out but not before I had ruined my eye makeup. 😂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🎂

I've flown Virgin Atlantic for more than 22 years (LAX to London and on occasion London to Paris thereafter). I have never had a bad flight on VA and I've flown every class. And the service has always been very friendly with lots of food offered. I know, however, depending on the flight path some of the planes are older than the others. I also never heard of VA being unbearably strict but I believe the seat belt checks are being made because of the recent turbulence issues, with one incident on Singapore Airlines resulting in several passengers being hospitalized with severe injuries and one dying on the plane. I always wear my seat buckle over my blanket so they don't wake me to see it.

Share your pain! Heathrow is a nightmare. We did miss our flight home from Paris to LAX last October due to security.security. It was almost like they go as slow as possible taking out every tiny thing. You must have items in a see through plastic bag. Live and learn. We were running to the gate to no avail. We had to stand in lines for vouchers and be bussed to a hotel which they gave us a voucher for… and leave very early the next morning. We were put on Virgin and sat in middle seats separately in the last two rows of the plane. We had paid for upgrades for extra legroom but at that point we didn’t care… just wanted to get home. Our Virgin flight was actually enjoyable ( unlike yours sadly) because we got several snacks ( including a popsicle at one point) and hot meals even thought were in the worst seats. Our movie screen was touch operated with lots of good movies… and flight attendants were dressed all in red and very very attentive. So that helped. I am so sorry you had such an awful experience ( but you made your flight!) and hopefully your luggage arrives soon! We have dined where you are eating tonight as we like to stay at Hotel Le Regent just around the corner. The alleyway is charming. I watched your video on Jules Verne experience yesterday. I had been eager to see it as 10 years ago we had lunch there… and it was wonderful. It was not $1100 dollars…OMG! And since it was daytime views were great. We had hoped to do dinner there last October ( we were that same time as you) for my 75th birthday but even trying 3 months ahead had no luck securing a reservation. After watching your experience and hearing the cost I am glad it did not materialize! Instead we did a brunch Seine cruise on Le Calife on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon which was wonderful. Paris is my favorite also… but this fall we are going to Ireland and England ( never been to Ireland) and we are flying to the dreaded Heathrow. We will be prepared for the security trauma this time. Look forward to seeing this trip from you. Our son recently spent his Honeymoon: in Paris and said due to upcoming Olympics there was much scaffolding in areas around the Eiffel Tower which distracted from the area. Travel is an adventure and flexibility is key as you two know all too well. Happy Birthday KJ. Hopefully the drama is behind you now. The “ packets” they provided you with the tee shirts made me smile. You guys are good sports😅

Sorry to hear you had such a terrible trip to Paris. We have been watching the weather in Florida with regard to all of the heavy rain and flooding since we left lots of friends there, when we moved. When we were living in Naples, we always drove to Miami for nonstop flights to Paris. I think one time we flew from Fort Lauderdale, a few years ago, as well. We normally flew Air France, American or Delta to CDG. Fortunately we never didn't have our luggage show up in Paris. One time we did have the problem coming home and when it got to Miami they drove it all the way to us in Naples. We have noticed turbulence back and forth across the Atlantic has been stronger and lasted longer, in the last year. I thought I had read some are studying this and think it has something to do with global warming or climate change (I forget which) and are predicting it will get worse. Our last 2 flights back and forth in March and again in April were really rocking and rolling. Glad to be over here to stay. The good news is you're in Paris! There's no better place to celebrate your birthday IMO! I do miss Paris. One day, after the Olympics, we'll do a few days there so I can get my Paris "recharge". Years ago, I flew back from Paris to the US with a selection of expensive food delicacies (pate, confiture, etc...) and security confiscated all of it, saying it wasn't allowed in carry-on luggage. This was well before 9/11 so I'm thinking the TSA had a feast with my goodies! Now I know to pack it securely in my checked bag...and expect it might still not be there when I get home.

This is my first time seeing one of your videos. It doesn’t sound like you travel internationally all that often but you have a KZbin channel? Did you use a credit card to book your flight with lost luggage coverage? The UK airports are incredibly strict with the liquids allowances and they consider lip balm, some powders, gels, waxes as liquids. They will make you throw out expensive makeup. I never book international connections with less than 3 hours. I also never check luggage on the way out. Carry on only is the way to travel. I will check luggage coming home because it’s okay if they misplace it. I have AirTags in every bag, including my personal item and carry ons.

I guess you could say that's true, relatively speaking. The first time I (KJ) traveled to Europe was in 2009 and we went to St. Tropez as a part of a cruise. When we moved to Paris, back in 2022, we had been to France only a few times, but both of us fell completely in love with Paris and knew we wanted to live there. When we moved back to the US in 2023 is when we really started traveling internationally more frequently, and obviously we are learning from our mistakes. We started the channel to document our move to France, which we are still documenting. It just looks a little different than when we started this journey.

This is why I always just do carry-on. Although, there was one time when I was in Paris and going to Florence where they made me gate check my bag due to lack of room. Sadly, my bag stayed in Paris LOL. I got it back 24 hours latter. A courier brought it to my accommodation. As far as public WiFi at the airport, one should always use a VPN. Too many hackers about. I also carry a power bank with me

Question 🙋‍♀️ I’ve seen some others post how crowded it already is prior to the Olympics. I’m supposed to be there Aug 21st and while I thought I would miss the Olympics, the Para Olympics are going on. So would you suggest I change my plans to a later date? I’m asking since you both travel there a lot 😊

We would never make a recommendation to change your plans because you never can be sure how crowded it will be at any given time (aside from the Olympics). We were just saying how much more crowded it seems than other times we have been here around the sane time of year. I, personally, don't like crowds, and it's not been to the degree that it's overwhelming. Again, so hard to predict. Sorry we can't be more helpful.

She had to have oxygen 3x. Her entire family was sitting behind us so we got to hear all the gory details. I hope she’s ok. We got home safe and sound. Or so we thought. My husband came down ill on Tuesday. First time he’s had it. I love Paris, but the plane travel I could do without. I feel your pain, and hope the rest of your journey is seamless. I was a humanitarian worker so am used to losing luggage, but happy to say our luggage came through fine. Although our flight was met with bomb sniffing dogs and it took an hour wait to retrieve it. I recommend you invest in an Apple Air Tag for each of your checked bags. You can check status of the bag(s) from the time you check them until you land & if they don't fly with you, the location can be reported to your phones. I am assuming you have an iPhone, if not, there are locator tags for Android available. The air tags provide a better location than the airlines can and you will be able to locate the bags down to a few feet. During the travel meltdowns of the past 2 years, many travelers were able to find their bags in warehouses full of luggage when the airlines just gave up on them. At least you can know when your bags arrive at the foreign airport (often before the airline confirms) & can choose to collect at the airport or wait a few extra hours for delivery to your hotel.

We flew out of Orlando after having spent 4 days at DisneyWorld our children and grandchild (along with millions of other folks--ugh) just after Christmas 2023, to JFK, then to CDG. We go every year to France and have gotten very picky about which airline and actual aircraft we fly on. We prefer Air France because their food is better and we prefer the Airbus 350-900. We always book directly with the airline because, although it didn't happen to us, when the pandemic struck, I heard horror stories from folks who;d booked through those 3rd parties like Expedia because that's who they had to go back through in order to get flights changed and it was awful. We live in Raleigh, NC and there's a direct Air France flight from here to CDG in the evening and now theiy use the Airbus 350-900 (not so last year) -- so come on through RDU to CDG from Orlando and fly Air France (or book it also through Delta). Have a wonderful birthday! Love your videos and we too have enjoyed the restaurant you're going to "tonight" -- also La Jacoeine, right there on too, is one of our favorites.

Welcome to Heathrow! There have been serious security breaches in the past, so it’s very strict. Even that extra bottle of wine you got on your flight, you can’t go to your connecting flight, if it doesn’t fit in your liter zip bag. When I was going from Lisbon, to SFO. My connection was Heathrow. The bottles of duty free wine, that were in the security bag, were scanned at Heathrow, and they put the wine in their own security bag. Also, Heathrow doesn’t do duty free prices, I don’t think. So, skip it. I learned my lesson last year.

KJ Happy Birthday! You look fabulous at 60 (and all the time). Tony, you look great too. Sorry your trip over was fraught with problems. I travel to the UK a lot and always end up at Terminal 5 at Heathrow which is a small planet on it's own. I learned early on to allow a minimum of two hours between connections whether going to Ireland or going on to anywhere else in the world. I know it is a nightmare to navigate particularly during the Summer months. It is overcrowded and the gate assignments are not posted until the last moment then you have to practically run to get to the gate on time. It's awful. In any event do not be discouraged and have a wonderful birthday. I know you will find a great outfit to wear to your birthday dinner. As my daughters usually tell me when little obstacles delay my plans, "these are high class problems". Everything will turn out well, you'll see!

It sounds like you two don't travel internationally often and it will become second nature as you do. Heathrow is my favorite airport to switch in...but I always fly into and out of Terminal 5, so it becomes that much smaller. Don't change terminals so check your flights' terminal before buying. Starting out you had too little time to change planes comfortably in any international situation even if everything went well. It also sounds like you don't do your liquids correctly in the US either. All liquids go into the small bag, including makeup. Don't get tickets through a 3rd party like Expedia incase there are problems because then you are low on the priority list. Always have a change of clothes in your personal item, whether you carry on or not. Horrible is when you have mechanical problems while on the plane...you guys just had an annoying trip. Regardless, Paris is always a good idea! Enjoy.

Despite what other commentators are saying, I don't feel sorry for you. You two speak as if you both just left the womb.😀 Both of you should've known better before you even planned your trip. So now I'm gonna chew you out (but doing so with love) about some of your mistakes! # 1: Never, ever book anything through a third party. Book directly on the airline's and hotel's websites. Ditto for any tickets you're going to need during your stay, and pre-book as much as you can on sites' own web page to avoid long lines at sites. (scroll down for more) #2: Don't blame the airline for losing your luggage. It's what they do best. Why in the world are you checking bags anyway? Really? How many clothes do you really need for your vacation? Nobody pays attention to what tourists are wearing (unless you look too American -- leave the baseball cap at home, please). Learn to wash underclothing in your hotel sink at night. And, as one commentator suggested, get an Apple Air Tag. It might not get your lost luggage to you quicker, but at least you'll know where it is. (scroll down for more) #3: You two are KZbinrs. You should've known that there are hundreds of fellow KZbinrs who post travel videos. And what do they always say? Pack an additional change of clothing in your personal-item bag, together with your medications, documents and toiletries. I also take two days' worth of underwear and an extra T-shirt in my p-i bag. (I also never check a bag -- learn to make due with one 22-incher. Pack light, and you'll feel lighter every day). (scroll down for more) #4: Don't complain about Heathrow. Many KZbinrs have talked about the challenges of going through Heathrow's security. Things are not like they are in the U.S. Had you watched these videos, you would've been prepared. And Heathrow isn't the only airport with a shopping mall. It's what airports do to make money; they make most of their money on these shops. (scroll down for more!) #5: And instead of grumbling about the 120 euros that Air France gave you, be eternally grateful to them for their generosity. They could've told you to go pound sand. I could go on and on, but hopefully, you've learned some hard lessons and will study and prepare better for your next international trip.
