you seem like lovely people but may I suggest something, You should show us the clothes you're looking at and then show us what you bought. That would be more fun for us. I traveled along the coast from Spain into France, then Italy to see Rome and Florence in my twenties and would love to go back, but never have been to Paris. Years ago, we flew Virgin Atlantic from Ireland - and had a lay-over at Heathrow for a connecting flight. Waited a couple hours, went through security, boarded the plane - and sat on the tarmac from 10:00 AM to MIDNIGHT. They provided us with NO food, no snacks - I think we got a little bottle of water…. At midnight - they officially cancelled the flight - the 250 or so people got off the plane - and had to go through Customs to re-enter Heathrow. The flight crew vanished. There was NOBODY to point this load of exhausted, hungry people - many of which did not speak English, some with small children, and quite a few elderly folks - to a place where we would be looked after. The airport was closed, empty - and we eventually formed a line at the single counter which opened to cope with all of us. A single stewardess crossed the path, the husband asked for help or direction. She snapped at us. The husband snapped back. And we got to entertain homeland security the following afternoon - for telling her what she could do with her attitude. NEVER fly Virgin Atlantic. NEVER set foot in Heathrow.

We flew through Heathrow last Fall with no problem. We had purchased champagne and pastis at the airport duty free and security checked that bag with no issue and we moved on. I will mention that the Nice airport asked if we wanted to check all 3 suitcases for free and we took them up on the offer so we didn’t have any carryon luggage

As a Flight Attendant, security at Heathrow is brutal on us crew members as well. Your experience and advice is valid, avoid LHR if you can 🛬 🙅🏻‍♀️

I’ve been to Paris many times myself, but I’ve never been to one of the vintage stores. Maybe, for jewelry, I’d check them out. I’m more German sized than French sized. 😜 Me, rewinding back, to see if one of the young French, military guys was one of my nephews. Hehe! I have an interesting collection of nephews. 😁

I'm lucky because I live in Chicago which has direct flights to just about anywhere in the world. But when I do have to take connecting flights, I look for a 4 hour layover so I can enjoy the airport lounge (Chase Reserve credit card Priority Pass membership perk). I just don't need the stress of possibly missing my flight anymore. Being retired means you can take your time and relax!

Oh Paris, I love walking through your beautiful streets…the vintage shopping is the bomb, love the cool pieces….I would never spend money on a LV bag…however, I was lucky and fortunate that a friend gifted me 3 of her LV bags when she was cleaning out her closet. Your bday is 6/16? My mom was born 6/16/1919! Her mom had the 'spanish' flu...mom was a 'blue' baby...both survived. In the scheme of life..this is important to us...in the world it is a speck of sand..always intriguing. Interesting how the back alleyways of vintage shops aren't as elegant as the restaurants of Paris...but still tell stories of living there. Sweet vid! P.S. Hi to Tony!

🍎KJ and Tony, Fantastic, lazy rainy hot chocolate day in our part of the world! Going cold turkey for any obsession if that's what it takes for the better and the best, so you don't have to go visit the doctor and for him or her to say take this prescription and hurrying to write it so they can go to the other patient next door, then so be it if you want to be double healthy. We must tell you we met a little boy who was 7 years old a few years ago. As we were talking to the little boy, his grandmother said he's also a vegetarian. We were quite impressed at his age he figured out I am not going to eat that cow out there, or that pig, or the chicken, etc. We had to go to the grocery store to get them some cash as it was a tire shop. At the time it was a small business and they only accepted cash. So we thought we would surprise the little boy by bringing him back four different kinds of fruits, so we did just that and when he saw the fruits when we came back with the cash, his eyes literally lit up as if though we were giving him candy! We also met a girl in her 20's. We were talking about food in her little antique shop and when we started talking about meat as it's called, she said to us, I don't eat any animals! That's when we decided, Oh My God! We are eating the animals! So anyone who wants to go vegetarian, it's a myth that vegetarians are depriving themselves of food. It's just the opposite because everything they eat is higher in grains, a lot more fruits, a lot more vegetables, baked potatoes instead of french fries and even pasta with different sauces, but made with high grain flour not bleached white flour. Definitely no white bleached flour that they use in every pastry in France, Italy, America, etc. It's very very addictive, it's the same principle as drugs. We don't use bleached flour or any form of sugar, only sometimes a sprinkle of coconut sugar because it has the least glycemic index and so doesn't spike your blood sugar. We don't have any kind of syrups in the house because it goes in the blood and the veins accept the syrup and too much sugar as in invasion and that's why millions of people have some kind of issues with their health because of what they put into their mouth. We know because we adore pastries and baked goods, but we don't buy them because what is in it. Sugar, bleached flour, oils and eggs that we can't stand smell of, so we substitute our sugar for any fruit that's overripe to make pastries and that is our sugar in the pastry. Because you're using overripe fruits, you don't need any eggs because you're getting the moisture in the fruit to substitute the eggs in the pastry. If the batter for whatever you're making such as muffins, cakes, fruit loafs, if the batter is too thick, then you want to add freshly squeezed orange juice and water. As far as cheeses that's abundant in Europe, of course they taste good because it's loaded with too much salt and so will spike your blood pressure. Which means you have to make your own cheese. Do we eat out? The answer is a big NO! Because of what they put into the food. Even preservatives that are packaged so it can last longer. So eating healthy, healthy, healthy is a complete different choice of lifestyle that you choose what you're going to digest. It also requires self disapline like martial arts. Eating late at night is the worst thing anyone in the world can do because of the sugar and the salt in the food, and so causes one to have a hard time falling asleep, not to mention when you're sleeping the sugar and salt goes into the blood and so the brain thinks you're awake which causes nightmares and snoring. I don't have to tell you, snoring leads to terrible heart problems that even requires surgery. If we have to go out to eat, it's buffet style once a year so we can eat the fruits and vegetables and if the food is too salty, we try another one that's not salty. So it's all about food choices that will determine what size we are and most of all, how healthy we are. We rather have health more than whining and dining! Got to go! Ciao! 🌴

A non-stop flight will make such a positive difference in your experience. What one saves on airfare for flights with layovers is lost in jet lag recovery time once one arrives. I would not advise stopping in the UK at Gatwick either. The UK is no longer in the EU. I agree that if you aren't flying non-stop, to change planes in your home country. I hope that at least for going over, you will stay at a hotel near the airport the night before, like you did when you made your first attempt at moving to France.

Last year when my husband and I traveled to Italy our flight from West Palm to JFK was delayed and we were rerouted to Heathrow and then Milan. I know what you mean about Heathrow being a nightmare. We spent 5 hours there and it was so tiring. My trip back from Menton in France will be Nice to Charles deGaulle then to Atlanta and finally to PBI. I pray all goes well as this will be my first solo trip since he passed away. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Super interesting to see the Tour Saint-Jacques - I remember seeing it in Paris but didn’t connect it to the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. Can you imagine walking over 930 miles from Paris to Santiago in medieval times? I’m planning to walk the pilgrimage from St. Jean Pied-de-Port in southwest France to Santiago in a few weeks, 500 miles with a hotel to sleep in every night and fancy hiking gear, and it’s still pretty daunting. There are several marked pilgrimage routes throughout France - if you happen to notice little scallop shell markers in the pavement or on signs in towns and cities in France, you are on one of the pilgrimage routes.

@@kjandtonylovefrance I will try to explain to you what is happening in France in laymen's terms so bear with me. After the European Parliamentary election a few weeks ago in which the president Macron's party was thrashed by a right nationalist group known as the Rassemblement National (RN) not more than 58 minutes later Macron decided to make above mentioned election into a national decision on his own popularity. He therefore dissolved the French Parliament and called for new elections within 3 weeks which given the short timetable is insanity. No French Parliamentary elections having been dissolved has ever had such a short time frame and when a political party is on a roll it is not in 3 weeks that it is going too cool down and lose popularity.. Macron's thinking was that he would force the issue and those who voted for the RN and the left (He is center but in reality no matter which side of the aisle you are on in France it is socialistic through high taxes and overwhelming cost of entitlements.) Or as the saying went France is the most successful experiment of the Soviet System in the West. He was under no obligation to dissolve the French Parliament and could have spent his last 3 years with a ruling majority in spite of the fact that his popularity is rock bottom. He could have changed course to ensure that a centrist would win in 2027 as he can only serve two terms and he is on his second. In laymen's terms most French hate him. He thought just as he tried to bring trump and later putin to reason that the voice of France was one of reason and intelligence. For 8 months he tried to convince putin to stop his aggression in Ukraine. Putin smiled and then made a fool of him and then he flipped completely on russia and floated the idea of sending troop. The French were livid. And as I said who is going to follow France into war. Macron thought by wining and dining Trump when he came to France as president that they could be buddies and that he could influence trump through the "superiority" of the French way of life, intellect and logic. He does not understand the American mindset at all. Americans are tough minded, headstrong . French are more...How can I say...talk big but carry a small stick on the world stage. So last night in the first round of French Parliamentary elections Macron's Party and Allies were again thrashed by the RN and even by the French left which is a conglomerate of center left to extreme left (Venezuela wannabes). There is one more round to go and the chances of either a nationalistic RN as in Hungary and Italy now will win possibly not an absolute majority in Parliament but become the largest party in France much as the Nazis did in the German elections which led to Hitler's appointment as Chancellor. The rest is history. There will be the obligation to chose a Prime Minister from one of these parties. The Prime Minister in France is responsible for economic and social policies. So much to the French liking the promised of more entitlements and higher taxes for the so called rich (over 4K€/monthly for the left) sounds just yummy. France has alway been a tax and spend nation.with a small GDP. Then you have the left and the far left teaming up with a few percentage points under the RN as of yesterday evening but their allies are far left groups often labeled as ant-semitic. Now you have to understand that in the past and it still holds true today that france has had cradle to grave socialism and it costs the taxpayer a fortune. Second highest government spending to GDP. And now France's budgetary spending is out of control in regards to EU regulations 5.5% of deficit to 3% allowed and a GDP deficit spending of 110% they ahve to finance but don't ahve the money to keep this so called French exception alive. France may become ungovernable for the next three years with Macron as president and someone on the left or right as prime minister with a group Parliamentary majority Now let's cut to the chase on how this would affect you. Primo. Either side the left or the right will make immigration to France much more difficult and this means you.... no matter how much money you have every immigrant from the ones who come without a penny to those with wealth will be considered equal. Administration will bog down and don't forget as France thinks it can make it on it's own and always has since DeGaulle both elements the left and the right have always been anti- American. No matter how much you say you love France and you will have to take a language test. If you don't pass it...Hello again Vero Beach Segundo....If you have the intention to work here as a permanent resident as myself for almost 50 years your earnings will be taxed in France at what will become an extremely high rate. For instance; Anyone making over 4000€ gross/month is considered rich. The left even wants to tax earning on a residual rate over about 120K€ at 90%. So what's the point! But the majority of French don't care as their average monthly net income is about 2000€ Do you homework and decide. Get as much info as you can. I am in no way trying to convince you of anything other than trying to convince you. I will send you pertinent info but I am waiting for next week's determining runoff election And I have only just scratched the surface.
