I believe the older asian man that is often seen off set "directing" the show is the devil. He very rarely if ever speaks, and it seems like at times Eric looks to him for approval or feedback. There was even one scene I remember where he was vehemently murmuring some kind of stuff that sounded like an incantation or curse during a nightmarish, or at the very least, absurd scene occurring on set.

This is freaky, I only started watching parts of the Eric Andre show recently and I got the exact same "purgatory" feeling as well, the constant wide shots and obvious laughter tracks give the set an uncanny and ambient atmosphere. The way in which Eric talks to his guests also gives these vibes, like he's been stuck in that place so long his mind has fully deteriorated, his random and sudden outbursts of anger are short moments of recollection, when he snaps out of his trance-like state and fully realises the hell he's in, and completely loses it. The Eric Andre Show is the definition of lovecraftian horror.

In an interview with Larry king Eric Andre said he came up with the show when he had a temp job he hated. He said the idea was that someone had a temp job as a talk show host and also hated it. The fact that the show seems like a kind of hell makes a lot of sense when taking this on to consideration. While Eric hasn't stated this in interviews, I can't shake this idea that he's intentionally lampooning not just the talk show format, but the very idea of the self-effacing comedian (i.e. Conan O'Brian on Late Night, or even Hannibal's standup material). Because the material is very centered on Eric yet by conventional talk show or comedy standards he consistently fails, continually wasting the viewer's time, or is shown slogging through what others would consider their worst moments on camera taken individually. This isn't a hell happening to him. I think this is him showing us what the logical conclusion is to absurdist sketch shows, the dorky awkward talk show, or a self-deprecating comedy routine when taken to an extreme; the newcomers copying and "merely" going one step further than those that came before. Kids in the Hall -> Mr. Show -> Tim & Eric -> Eric Andre -> ???

I just assumed the show took place in some alternate reality. I think that's what the show's description even said at one point. Sort of a Twilight Zone thing where Eric's world is bleeding into our own, and random pedestrians and unsuspecting celebrities are dragged into the madness.

Yeah man! I actually had this theory myself a few years ago -- Eric is stuck in a never ending talk show time loop or something, demonstrated most obviously by how he lashes out at the set and the people on it, only for everything to go right back to the way it was, and Eric cannot escape, no matter what he does, and it drives him mad. Glad someone is talking about it.

I believe the kraft punk character is an Angel that tries to save eric at times or check on him, i think this for a few reasons, one being a few lines he says such as "everybody is friends with everybody" and "i can not die" which also points to his angelic powers, secondly is whenever he appears on the set he gets booed off soon as possible and pushed away, even by eric himself. As if the demons of hell do not want an angle walking in hell. Just maybe..

Eric once in the show I think with no context just said "how do I get out of here" in the middle of a monologe . Now this is far form a confirmation to this theory and maybe I am thinking to deeply about the whole thing after all the whole point of the show is that there is no point but It might actualy be something considering all the things you yourself pointed out in the video. I would go further and say that everybody on the show is in hell with the possible exception of Hannibal who is able to leave the set at whim. Consider a further couple of points; many guests complain about the set being too hot (Denis Rodman has to wipe himself down...a lot) Also, Questlove tries repeatedly to tell people he 'is in the house' but at first nobody listens before eventually replying to him (with ominous soundtrack) that he is 'not in the house'.
