One thing to note about Alcatraz is that it moves not long after the real-life prison was shut down. Implying it fed on the prisoners there but after it was closed down they tried radiation therapy so it couldn't replicate. Instead, it did replicate and moved to the West Coast in search of sustenance.
@LeadMetal822 жыл бұрын
Or the radiation therapy is the one that made alcatraz replicate. Remember, cancer is a type of disease in which cells devide uncontrollably, and it can be caused by radiation.

I love the deadpan strangeness of this series--how there's very little that's "scary" besides a couple of jump scares (the canyon crown one is my favorite), but it has a feeling like a real bad, slightly coherent nightmare. It doesn't make a lot of literal sense, but it has a symbolic through-line and a consistent internal un-logic that brings it all together in an unforgettable and powerful way.
@cl0k32 жыл бұрын
Looking at it from an in universe perspective, it seems like the deadpan reaction to these monsters would be because its normal. Alcatraz is now a bunch of prison cells that plague texas to california. The ever given just grew legs. People in universe would see these events in the same way we see a typhoon or tornado. Sad, and destructive, but it kinda goes with the territory.

It decapitates its victim, then empties it like an Halloween pumpkin. After, it shrink its own body with vinegar to fit inside the victim's hollowed-out body, and passes as a regular person. Kinda dealing with season 2, but here: Monument Mythos sure is a bit interesting, in the sense that the whole "portals into another world" thing doesn't feel THAT bad of a fate... but the fact that it's often used as an in-world punishment means that there HAS to be a reason as to why that's the case. What is the purpose of the infection? Are the lightning trees used to send the people somewhere safer before they're devoured?
@bweebi2 жыл бұрын
Like everything in MM, it’s convoluted and sometimes not explained at all. In terms of how the special trees operate, the wonderland/tree dominated space you’re sent to can distort your physical form. Every now and then, a flash will occur and your location will be randomly reset to a different part of the forest. If you’re in contact with a tree when this occurs, like if you’re trying to climb one, you will be stretched across the different levels of wonderland. Not only that, but you don’t really know when you’re going to exit wonderland either. We know someone can be stuck there long enough to age into adulthood. So I think that justifies why it would be a suitable punishment for opponents of the Dean administration, apart from pre-existing things like losing your family and being forced to start anew in a world with a displaced history compared to your own.

i had washingtonwormhole on my recommended feed and i was instantly intrigued. i typically don't get analogue horror accounts on my feed (it's typically just other channels delving into them, not the original videos themselves) so when it showed up, i knew it was something worth getting into !

Here's two thing I think you missed (I have not watched season two, so if these are addressed, I wouldn't know) 1. The airforce one angle likely caused the alcatraz attack as that also took place some time in 2003 2. Maya Arnoldson is not only the canyon crown seen in the episode, but also the falsely imprisoned woman mistaken for Reagan's Lincoln Looker

For once I am early. I had just binged through MM yesterday. Watching your coverage on my tv is the best way to view your videos. :>

Rushmore revenge was the first video I saw on Alex's channel. It's always so off putting to se those 4 stone heads just glaring at back at you as you stare at them. which makes the sudden change to a forest of special trees ever more jarring. That sort of uncanny and suspenseful horror is the reason why Monument Mythos will always hold a special place in my heart when come to analogue horror.

I've been following webseries like these since Marble Hornets, and this one was the first to actually make me go back, rewatch the entire thing, and take very detailed notes. I loved the approach of having so many different sorts of "primary sources" for it--the sort of information you can get from them varies so much, and it made it feel so much more like an actual research project than usual. The information itself isn't obfuscated at all, it's just a matter of stitching it together. I definitely made a LOT of connections by taking notes and crossreferencing them that I would've most likely missed otherwise. I'm looking forward to seeing if your conclusions are similar to mine.

I wasn’t able to check what the series was called, and I couldn’t figure it out. Now I’ll be watching this later after watching you! 😊

The amount of effort put into this series is more than most big budget movies nowadays.

I always thought it was a cool idea of how Alex Kansas is an in-lore person who survived their apocalypse and is trying to retell his world’s grim history to us

*SPOILER ALERT* It's interesting revisiting _LINCOLNLOOKER_ now that we know that everything in it was total BS the ADA made up. Probably inspired by the Liberty Lurker film.

-Random KZbin recommends this video. -Hear "you should watch [the Mythos series] first. -Me: Fine, guess I will. -Watches entire series. Thus I have to thank you, despite never knowing your channel existed before today. That was a bunch of mindscrew that really was enjoyable to watch.

Monument Mythos is really cool because the worldbuilding and events are made so that they can be alliterative and somehow there’s a coherent story despite that. I’m shocked the plot is even half-decipherable.
