The Roundabout game seems to be based off the Obariyon from Japanese folklore: a creature that attaches to the back of travellers that will grow heavier and heavier until it breaks the host’s back, or until it arrives at its destination, where it will drop off and give the traveller a sack of gold

Maybe but I’m not entirely sure. Based off the end of that story it appears that the the D-class was replaced by whatever was following him. First off there was the sound of munching and tearing of meet heard in the audio, and later somebody else found his remains, but the D class had exited the thing fully intact. It reminds me of a story I once heard about a man who went to hell to save his dead wife and all he had to do was not look behind him. But it was tempting to look behind him because he could hear his wife (or what he thought to be his wife) if the man looked behind him he would be stuck there and I believe replaced by a demon. (Although I could be misremembering because I haven’t heard it in a while

D-28392 was killed and the entity that came back pretended to be them. We know that because when they send in the second person - D-39212 they step into some gore and it's stated that " Analysis of viscera traces from D-39212's shoe showed it to be genetically identical to D-28392" The story ends with "The entity released from Site-36 on 01/04/2018 has yet to be found."

21:59 Going for the common section it really does feel like I’m one of the few people who has a completely different interpretation of this SCP. Basically, it starts off as you going through the same rooms over and over again then you get transported to a different dimension where you’re forced to look at reflections of your past and the price of what you greatly desire. The game of the roundabout is supposed to show you something amazing to make it worth the Journey. Perhaps it’s sort of like a monkey law sort of situation where, instead of giving you something you want it gives you something you desire deeply with in your subconscious. The D class desperately felt that he did not deserve to be the one that survived the womb, a deep trauma within his childhood, and by the end of it was granted his wish. He was replaced by the other brother, who is able to now live his life. I don’t think the game necessarily replaces every single person who goes through it. I think it gives you what you want sort of like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The piece of cheese at the end of the maze. It’s like a test of convection. I think the reason why the sludge, a.k.a. the D class, was in there is because it’s the same space every time. It just changes to fit the person who’s there.

There’s nothing to imply that he was being chased by something like the other D class. Instead, he got freaked out when he saw human remains in a slurry on the floor.

Imagine if another D class went in and try to go through the roundabout and they’re deep desire is something less graphic perhaps they wouldn’t be mutilated on the way out. But I could be terribly wrong so far it seems that they can’t find someone with the conviction to go through that thing without them to turn around.

'Isn't that funny' is a phrase repeated by one part of an SCP located in Reading, Pennsylvania - specifically, one of a cast of four puppets seemingly possessed by whatever spirit(s) remains in the theatre. It's probably not connected, but it's still a weird detail to have come up again and again.

Depending on canon, plenty of D-class get sent back into the outside world after a heavy dose of amnestics and a good cover story. Usually ones who are unlikely to reoffend or "volunteered," for experimentation.

AWCY is my favourite GOI, like a bunch of vaguely evil art house weirdos is pretty fresh compared to most GOIs. The moment I saw the staircase in the "It Looks Back" entry, all I could think of is "The Everfall" from Dragon's Dogma. What's amusing is in the early parts of the game, it functions nothing but a dungeon that spirals down into the ground with an actual bottom. Later in the game however, it opens up into a deeper and repeating hole you fall down into. The staircases going down broken apart into particular sections and then at the bottom, a white bright void. Kinda like how that entry describes it.
