Tuomas wrote the music to this song in two hours. Lyrics took more time. "Amaranth" official music video and "Bye Bye Beautiful" official music video are the most popular Nightwish videos, both have more than 120M views. They both are from Nightwish Anette era 2007-2012. Anette Olzon (SWE) is the 2nd female vocalist of Nightwish. Her vocal style was poppy. She was not as good live as Tarja and Floor, but she had her moments too, not a bad singer by no means. She could not sing some songs that reguire operatic vocals.

@@101Mant I think that's why Floor has become my favorite. She can (witness Beste Zangers) pull off almost any genre effectively, and with flair. There are still a couple songs in the Nightwish lexicon that I'd give to an Annette or Tarja performance as a favorite. But OVERALL? Floor.

I always thought the whole discussion about the singers are kinda pointless. They are all three great in their own way. But Anette really had the worst placing between Tarja and Floor, she can only loose, which is a bit unfair in my opinion. The Imaginarium Album is to this day I think the best Album from Nightwish. So why don't we just decide that Anette is the princess of Symphonic Metal, Tarja is the Queen and Floor is the goddess ;-)

Good catch, Stacy ! "Amaranth" was their most recent single at the time, and was their biggest seller as well. This was the one that everyone knew, so it was perfect for the sing-along. You'll also notice that as energetic as the crowd had been before this, "Amaranth" was where they went absolutely mental. This was the twelfth song in the set; it came right after "Romanticide,", and was followed by "Ghost Love Score" (MAKE AMERICA NIGHTWISH)

This song is one that actually got airplay. You can tell it is much more mainstream than most. Congrats on the 50,000 subscribers. Soon Shudder Before the Beautiful live at Wembly? It in incredible if for no other reason than the guitar, organ duel between Emppu and Tuomas. It is incredible in it's length. Several moments of insane goosebumps. Weird coincidences. There is a band called Amaranthe that are also progressive metal. Female singer Elize Ryd helped out in a Nightwish concert when the previous singer Annette Olsen became ill and eventually left the band. Elize auditioned for the band but was turned down in favour of Floor. I recommend you check the band Amaranthe out too.

@@jantje57 Yes, Elize lost out twice to the singing spot. Elize and Amanda Somerville shared that concert singing from lyrics on printed sheets. The 2 were performing with Kamelot when they volunteered to help Nightwish. She was in the list to replace Annette but Floor was picked just as her band, After Forever, had split up.

This concert is pretty cool. But the concert in Buenos Aries in 2019 is insane. If you like seeing the crowd react to the band, then that's the show you want to see for sure. Going to see Nightwish down there is on my bucket list because they know how to really act at a show.

I've really enjoyed watching you guys work your way through the Wacken concert. This concert/live album (showtime, storytime) was a major turning point in Nightwish's history. Before you move on to more songs, I think this is a good time to get a brief history lesson. Nightwish pioneered the "Symphonic Metal" genre by combining metal instruments with a classically trained opera singer named Tarja Turunen. They made 5 albums together before Tarja was publicly fired in an open letter immediately following a live tour(end of an era). The split was a catastrophe for Nightwish. It took 3 years to produce another album with a new singer, Anette Olson. Tuomas was considering killing himself, but wrote the song "The Poet and the Pendulum" instead. During the tour for the following album the band had yet another falling out with their lead singer, resulting in her termination mid tour. Floor Jansen learned the set list during her flight from the Netherlands to Colorado and has been with the band ever since. This is in no way a complete history, but I hope it gives you a little more context moving forward.

This song started Nightwishes more popish phase and was the first, or one of the first songs, with their 2nd singer Anette Olson. It was their attempt to dive into mainstream outside of Finland This might be the only Anette song where I might still prefer Anette's version over Floor's, but it is a close call. In the other ones I prefer Floor Tuomas wasn't completely happy with this song as Anette's initiation to the band since according to him it didn't fairly represent the rest of the album, and people were left a bit confused with the album and its direction

Once you've reacted to all the Wacken songs you really ought to treat yourselves to watching the entire set start to finish on a big screen with great speakers (the full concert is available in HD on KZbin). Justin, I'm 100% with you on "letting it breathe" - so you might consider doing the remainder of your reactions from the full show video (time markers for each song are available in the comments of the full concert video to facilitate cueing up to the current position). This will allow you to see and hear the post song crowd reactions as well as the banter between songs which adds immensely to the experience IMO.

So, late to the party here. It is Amaranth, aməˌranTH, or Am-e-ran-TH broken down and easier to understand. It comes from an old Greek word meaning "unfading". Also, as others have pointed out... Tuomas holding both hands on his head hearing 82,000 people reacting to and loving the music he created. Any musician would and should be blown away by that. It still has just as big of a punch in the emotions now as it did the first time I saw the video.

If you do the whole Wacken concert, why don't you look up for "nightwish wacken 2013 correct speed", so that you can go through songs in right order and videos are not cut from the wrong point? And doing that you don't end up doing those damn slowed down versions. 9 out of 10 reactors does the slowed down "Last Ride", and it really sucks. It's not that the fans do not know the lyrics to all the songs, but considering Floor is the singer, this is one of the only song that the crowd can actually sing in the normal human range. HEHE! 😉 Plus why would want to sing over Floor, one of the main point of going to a Nightwish concert is to hear her sing.

Great reaction, and you kinda nailed it on people knowing it except this is a four day festival, and although Nightwish were headlining and closing the event, with all other stages empty (not something which other performers have the benefit of - exclusivity is the headliners biggest benefit), of course not everyone was there to see them. Alice Cooper had immediately preceded them on the other major stage (of 5, with 2 more informal performing venues on site) so you have to grab that crowds attention fast, before any might consider heading back to the campsites for their last night before leaving. So yeah, there would be some around the fringes who had turned around fast when they heard Nightwish live for the first time, and may not have known the words. Why not follow the running order Nightwish themselves chose to use? Just skip the ones you've already reacted to. As a European I can tell you something about the name of this song! in my opinion there is not a spoken "th" in the end. just leave the "h", then you have just a "t" at the end. All the "A"s in the word are spoken like the "a" in the word i.e. "bar" and the "r" has the rolling sound, you dont have in english language. this leaves you with a very simple "amarant" (remember: the "a"`s like in bar!!)

Amaranth is a flower. Not sure if it's native to Finland where the band originally come from. Annette Olzen was their second singer and this was the third song from Dark Passion Play, which was the first album she did with them in 2007. Check out the video for it, I think you'll like it. Floor took over when things went sour with Annette on the US tour in 2012, when she sang at Wacken she still wasn't the official singer with the band.
