Dead Boys Poem is incredibly special to me. I connected so deeply and it helped me so much in my healing. Nightwish taught me how to feel again after feeling nothing for what seemed an eternity. I seen the tears in your eyes and it´s beautiful to see you feel it too. Earlier this year I met Tuomas Holopainen in Kitee, Finland and spent some precious moments with him. I shook his hand and told him what Nightwish meant to me. What a wonderful, humble human being he is :D

I think your 'handle' says it all. The words you use as your 'name', are some of the most beautiful lyrics I've ever experienced. The song, SHOEMAKER, wrecks me. Every. Single. Time. The beauty of the song, video and sentiment of NASA honoring Eugene in that way are just overwhelming.

For Poet and the Pendulum (Live at Wembley) you'll probably need two boxes of Kleenex. I don't always advise prior research of a song but I definitely think it's beneficial for that one... and turn the captions on 👍🤘 that song is a masterpiece! Prepare to be left in awe

And Mme. JyngerSlapz, this referenced song is written backwards, there's a whispered "The End" when it starts and "The Beginning" when it finishes. I agree, the captions and some research is very useful although not essential probably.

Absolutely agree. Tarja has a phenomenal voice, and Anette in her own genre also does too. But still, I prefer Floor. She, to date, is the only vocalist that can reach me in that way. I've never come across another that can do what she does - in terms of conveying the emotion and feeling of any given song. Agree with you fully!

I am 76, and this group has it all. Floor is the icing on the cake. When someone told me to listen and watch the video of" ghost love score". I said are you kidding, its not my piece of cake, now I am forever hooked. Lol. I am also amazed at the lighting and the pyro being so synchronized with the music. Outstanding.

As soon as Floor started singing my eyes went all misty. One thing someone pointed out on another reaction to this song that I thought was pretty poignant…. Emppu’s guitar solo…the expression on his face when he finishes…not his usual smiling, happy visage. Maybe that demonstrates the power of this song….it even got to him. For Tuomas himself this song means a lot. He has said that this is the “mother of all Nightwish songs, about himself and how he wants people to remember him as when he passes away. He said: ” This is the most personal song I’ve ever written. My testimony for the whole world. With this song I want to apologize everyone who deserves my apology. It also makes an “I don’t care” -statement to them who deserve it. The song is also about what Nightwish means and has meant to me. It’s all, without it I’m dead. I have created it and it has created me. When I pass away, this song’s lyrics are of what I wish to be remembered. An Ocean Soul.” Here are the words read by the boy: I live no more to shame, nor me, nor you I'm sorry If you read this line Remember not the hand that wrote it Remember only the verse Songmaker's cry, the one without tears For I've given this its strength And it has become my only strength Comforting home, mother's lap, chance for immortality Where being wanted became a thrill I never knew The sweet piano writing down my life Teach me passion, for I fear it's gone Show me love, hold the lorn So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me I'm sorry Time will tell, this bitter farewell I live no more to shame, nor me, nor you And you I wish I didn't feel for you anymore So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me Time will tell Nuff Said!!!! NWSU 🤘😎🤘.

The first thing I noticed when I first saw this performance was Emppu's solo and his demeanor. I can't be sure, but I get the feeling that this song touches him as deeply as it does most of us, even after he's played it so much.

It shows how Tuomas defined Nightwish, Nightwish also defined Tuomas. The success of Nightwish ended Tuomas' childhood. The Boy-Tuomas is no more (hence the "dead boy") what put him in a bit of identity-seaching.

Nobody anticipates finding a band who can touch their soul with each song when they first start listening to Nightwish, but it's something we learn in time. As a composer, Tuomas has the brilliant ability to put words to music that does just that, but in Floor he has found the perfect conduit to convey those emotions. She's an empathic singer who leaves her heart on the stage, and the each member of the band has a similar capability. This is one of the very few songs where Emppu does not smile as he plays. He recognizes the serious nature of the song, and it almost breaks my heart to not see the pleasure he exudes with his virtuosity. Thanks again for sharing your emotions with us. I warned you about the tissues. I wasn't being cute. Love you, and awaiting your next step on the journey.

This is the only song that has closeups from Emppu's face without so familiar grin. He does play wholeheartedly, as always, but the smile is missing from his face and/or eyes.

Jynger...I've watched a LOT of your content. ...and then view your Nightwish (and Floor Jansen) reactions... To my untrained eye, NW performances seem to unlock the pain you seem to be guarding. This particular song and performance are DRIPPING with emotions. Pain, loss and sorrow are embodied by this song and the line spoken by the 'child' in the song "And you. I wish I didn't feel for you anymore." seemed to really trigger a response in you. Tuomas writes from the heart and Floor gives it WINGS and breath to touch yours. And mine. And anyone with ears. It's an extremely rare gift. I'm 62 this year and heard and seen A LOT of bands, singers and artists. And I've been moved a few times. The tapestry of music and the journey of emotions this band creates, 'moves' me almost every time... the experience is supernatural to me. The tears flow freely. And sometimes abundantly. It's a real phenomenon. She also instills empathy in me. When you react with tears, I feel an empathetic sadness and loss too. Both from Floor's performance and your response. Trying not to sound weird... maybe too late. I guess I'm trying, awkwardly, to say... I felt that too😢❤

I think that this song and poem relates to everyone in some way or another! Between "Nemo" and "Dead Boy's Poem" ...Tuomas must have tapped into the lives of those of us who have gone through some very dark times in our lives. I was depressed and became an alcoholic in my late 20's to early 40's, until one day I decided that I didn't want this life anymore. I am now 65 years young, and I am 23 years, 1 month and 14 days sober! Also depression free..despite my injured lower back, which has made it nearly impossible for me to walk, I am happy inside! I take it one moment at a time! Thank you for taking your time out of your day to explore the music of Nightwish! I appreciate it more than you know!

Great reaction Jynger. This is one of their older songs, and one of Tuomas’s most personal. It was inspired by the question, If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you have to say today? Tuomas answers in the persona of his boyhood, innocent, yet perhaps misunderstood. It’s a beautiful song that Floor put her own mark on, singing it rather differently than the original. Now, do you want a different emotion? Check out Yours is an Empty Hope, an angry song from Tuomas, aimed at internet trolls and haters. Floor will surprise you too. I suggest the Wembley version. Listen carefully. After that, you might be ready for one of the other two magnum opuses, though I’d recommend Greatest Show on Earth before Poet and the Pendulum. Just my opinion. I’m enjoying watching your Nightwish journey.

Great reaction! I don't often comment on videos as I tend to he VERY long winded. But I had to here. I discovered NW going on about 8 months or so ago. I was mad I'd lived without this in my life (42 at that time) all these years. I'm not an overly emotional woman. I try not to be led by my emotions, as that can make many things quite cloudy, or lead to poor decision making. About or a little over 10 years ago I stopped crying. To this day it's rare that a tear gets through. I cried enough through my life, through about age 31 or 32, I just came to resent it. Movies rarely make me cry. Nothing short of injury or death is likely to bring the tears. My husband, G-d bless him, encourages me to let them out, but it's hard for me. Then came this band. Never in my life has a band brought that out in me. I broke down, but in a good way. While I still don't let my emotions through as often as i need to, this band always brings them, and it's welcomed. One reason their music means so much to me is Tuomas's writing. He writes like my husband does. Sounds like my husband speaking to me, sounds like the poems he writes for me on nights he can't sleep. He's a wonderful man, truly. And I think the fact that his lyrics remind me so much of my most dear one is the big reason I connected with NW so strongly and so immediately - people don't know how to say things in that way anymore, and too few try. That's special in itself. Floor, being a highly sensitive person (an empath basically) can put the emotions into a song like none other I've seen. Even years after a performance was filmed, she can make you feel it through a screen as if you were transported back in time and living it. That's rare, and one thing that makes her such a powerful performer. I'm also an empath, but had to learn to close up. That's one reason I felt things so extremely since I was young, and one reason for all of the aforementioned crying in my younger years. If i dont close myself off, i feel everything from everyone, even from a child I dont know crying in a grocery store. I feel it all, and it can be very difficult. Im still working on balancing that where I dont feel a flood of emotions from everyone around me. Floor and the entire band can reach the unreachable. Now, I just open up the gates when I listen to them, there is no point in resisting. Lol! They are definitely a special group of humans, that's for sure. This song, as you've read in other comments, is very special to him - and we feel it instantly. You are reacting in much the same way I did when I found them. It's comforting to see another here take it so closely to how I did, I don't know why that is, but its comforting to me. Just had to say thank you for sharing your NW journey with us. They've helped (and will continue to help) more people through dark and tough times than they will probably ever know. They are perfect to me, too. You may not get many comments from me, but I'll be here watching. Though, I do feel bad that you can't just binge their music like I did lol! That's to be commended itself! Nightwish, no matter how many times I listen to any song, is always like a gift to me. It always makes my heart smile to see others that feel the same way. Hope you are having a great day! Sending love and blessings from me and my family to you and yours....NW Army Alabama Division reporting. Be well, Jynger🤟🏻😊

I highly recommend “How’s the Heart” Planet Rock Acoustic. It is just Floor and Troy. If you want to hear Floor evoking emotions on her own, I highly recommend the following performances she did on Beste Zangers: “Shallow”, “I Don’t Know a Thing About Love”, and “Winner”. “Sweet Curse” that she did with a previous band Revamp is also excellent. I particularly like the version from Graspop.

Phenomenal. Floor sings this staple of the early tours to a new life - and does it superbly. Emppu very serious in this performance. Usually he fools around and is grinning all the time. Not here. A very personal song for Tuomas ( watch for Dead Boy references in a number of songs, it'll always mean something personal).

From Songfacts: This song is about a young boy who is misunderstood. He never has had anyone close or anyone at all to talk to, so his music is what he lives for and is where he puts his feelings. His music gives him the push to keep on living and he puts everything into it. He tries to improve his life but whatever he does, he can never get back to the way he used to be. He says that people shouldn't ask for a better world because the world has already been made and been done. In the talking part of the song, he is telling people not to remember him but to remember the music that was his life. He wants a mother's lap to sit on, he just wants to be loved. He cares about the world but he feels like he is just a waste of space because he has nothing and no one to love him he is just like an ocean - abused - and is just a very lonely boy and it is just his "bitter farewell."

We are all shedding tears with you JyngerSlapz! sadness is a part of life and helps to elevate joy to a whole new level. One of my favorites. This song is based around a hypothetical situation created in the mind of a genius. He is a lucky man to have the Mistress of emotion and storytelling to bring his creations to life. This is a very emotional and personal song for Tuomas. The small child's voice represents Tuomas' inner child speaking. When asked what this song was about "Tuomas has said about this song, that it's about if he were to die tomorrow, what would he want to say to everyone that he loves, and that love him..." Notice the small boy on the screen reaching out to the flying swans on the screen. The swan is the guide to the afterlife in Finnish mythology. He is reaching out to implore them to take him with to the other side. A beautiful song filled with sadness from an unfulfilled destiny. Here are the spoken words (the Dead Boy's Poem) If you read this line Remember not the hand that wrote it Remember only the verse Songmaker's cry, the one without tears For I've given this its strength And it has become my only strength Comforting home, mother's lap, chance for immortality Where being wanted became a thrill I never knew The sweet piano writing down my life Teach me passion, for I fear it's gone Show me love, hold the lorn So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me I'm sorry Time will tell, this bitter farewell I live no more to shame, nor me, nor you And you I wish I didn't feel for you anymore A lonely soul An ocean soul

You know, what really is the great Thing from all of this? in 10 or 15 Years, when YT and Klicks and Subs are perhaps meaningless to you, you still can just watch and listen to this Performance(s) of Nightwish, whom surely arent performing anymore in this Lineup at this Point, and still be hit by the Band in Soul and Stomach;) Nice, emotional recap, the Meaning and Source of the Song will surely be covbered by much better informed and english spoken Army Pals. Stay healthy, young Lady! NWA Bavaria North

Thanks again for the great video! It's been nice to follow your Nightwish journey! As many have already said, this song tells Tuomas' own thoughts, what he wants us fans to remember about him if he dies unexpectedly. "Remember not the hand that wrote it Remember only the verse" So even if Tuomas dies, don't get attached to him, but let his music live on. This song clearly shows how Nightwish tells a story. Each member of the band is enlivened by the storytelling, you won't see them smile. Not even Emppu... They tell a sad story in a masterful way that takes us all along. An interesting detail on the led board on the back. There you can see a big flying bird. It comes from old Finnish mythology from the time before Christianity. When a person dies, a big bird comes to take his soul to another world.

Hi there. Love the reaction. Very emotional, to an emotional song. Tuomas and the band just do this to their audience. When I listened to the Wishmaster album for the first time, this song hit me quite off guard as the majority of songs of that album fall into power metal. The build-up of Dead Boy's Poem is amazing. Also, this very live version is outstanding with the band giving everything and Floor doing her thing. However, I wish you had reacted to a version (original or live) with Tarja Turunen as singer. Floor Jansen is a force of nature, but some Nightwish songs have a very unique atmosphere with Tarja's more operatic style. Dead Boy's Poem is one of these songs, along with Nemo, The Kinslayer, Ever Dream (the Wacken 2013 version is very good, but the 2005 End Of An Era version is a fantastic and very emotional), Walking In The Air (a cover, I'm not sure if there is a version with Floor as singer), and of course Phantom Of The Opera (also a cover). I'd really like to see you react to some Nightwish songs with Tarja as a singer - if only to see how Nightwish sounds to you with a female lead singer with a different style than Floor Jansen. Keep 'em coming.
