Ahhh, there it is! - So nice to see you revisit old friends. Not gonna lie, when you left Nightwish behind to pursue Bandmaid I couldn’t understand how you could possibly prefer them musically. - But that’s the beauty of music, it is different things to different people and who can argue with that? It would be boring if we all loved the same bands at the expense of others. I live in New Zealand as you know but my half brother lives in Chicago and I encouraged him to go to the Nightwish concert there recently. He had never heard of them before and came out of the concert blown away by Floors voice and the skill and tightness of the band. He told me that no KZbin video of the band can prepare you for the majesty of seeing them live. He’s a hard man but admitted he cried during the operatic part of Shoemaker. - it’s a cold winters night down here so I might revisit some of your first reactions to Nightwish. I think that’s the real joy of Nightwish fans, watching a new recruit come into the fold 😉

Man, I so love your heartfelt reaction. Feels like coming home after a long journey. It reminds me of what Tuomas said in an interview for Dutch tv about Floor. Her journey into metalland - from her 16th onwards - went through many stellar ups, punctuated by some very deep downs and then she was asked in 2012 to join Nightwish. Tuomas' words: "She's right at home with us, doing this". You just have to see that reportage for Dutch tv, which was done right before, during and after the legendary Tampere 2015 concert with Floor's parents present in the audience. Floor also talks about the severe burn-out she suffered in 2011. @@RyanMear - Terminal 5 is a small venue- 3000 or so, SRO. Beast in Black opened for them- great metal band with, I thought, an 80s vibe but a good fit. They opened with "Noise" (which I'd love to see you react to-Hellfest wink-wink). Played almost a two hour set and it was absolutely all I'd hoped- finished with GSOE. Jukka, the new bassist, doesn't sing but I think he is as good a fit as a replacement as Kai was for "the other Jukka." I saw Led Zeppelin live -yeah, I'm old- and about every band I ever wanted to see and this show was just a level above. They play as tight for 3000 as they do for 82000 and the intimacy added something special.

Fellow WVian here …saw them in Massachusetts the night before you (I think). It was unreal how tight they are live. I was 2nd row and the sound was spectacular (they have some of the best sound engineers in the biz ). Hearing Floor live is breathtaking to say the least. She’s just so captivating. Band is so good and just love playing music. They put on a great show for a …shall I say less than enthusiastic crowd???? Wouldn’t have known though if just heard performance that it wasn’t a huge stadium show. True professionals. This is lyrically my fave NW song. So poetic and beautiful. Building a sandcastle close to the shore…a house of cards from a worn out deck is one of my favorite lyrics of all time. I always took it that you have to do things that are hard and are gonna end at some point because of the journey and the joy of getting there. This song lyrically always reminded me of a more upbeat “The Dance” by Garth. Live your life to the fullest and know that there is gonna be pain and sadness but if you don’t do things due to fear of pain/sadness etc you miss out on the best parts of life (falling in love/having kids/ development of relationships/ taking job risks etc). I.e. coulda missed the pain but I’d have had to miss the Dance 🤘

I know exactly what you mean. This band is just magical. The chemistry of these musicians (god I miss Marko) is tangible in a way very few groups I have ever listened to come close to…. I don’t always reach for Nightwish but every time I do BAM! The emotional impact of this band hits me like a truck.

Hi Ryan. Loved your reaction, clearly enjoying Nightwish again after such a long time. I guess I have to stop by your channel a little more often to remind you 😉 Élan is a real fun song, especially during their live performances when everybody sings along. During the NY show Floor mixed up the lyrics, but she laughed it away. I saw smiles from the others too. Such a joy to watch them having fun on stage!

Floor's father at her birth, held her for the first time and said, your are going to grow up and be the greatest metal female front women on the planet....Thus my wife and I, 78 and 77, had the pleasure, this past May in New York, to see this beautiful lady, and Nightwish, perform....No words can describe how magical the show was....

Great reaction! Marco's vocal line in the chorus gets me every time, especially with the key change the third time around. This is a beautiful song thats sits in the middle of an amazing album. there is sooo much music out there and so much of it is really good regardless of how bad pop music is these days! Keep discovering, keep exploring but it is always nice to come home to something that is so comfortably good. I spend a fair chunk of my life travelling and so I feel the same about settling in to home to how I feel when I listen to some Nightwish. Then the urge to go see some more of the world comes back and eventually off I go again!! 🤣

Definitely worth checking out the video clip which was shot in Finland at various locations between September and November 2014, and it was directed by Ville Lipiäinen. Tuomas quoted: “The long-awaited NIGHTWISH music video ‘Élan’ is finally here. Inspired by the untold stories of abandoned places around Finland, the video was nearly a year in the making and features some of the most loved Finnish actors and actresses. And also the legendary NIGHTWISH symbol, a snowy owl (Bubo Scandiaca in Latin) called ‘Urho’ (‘Braveheart’).” It’s really a special clip and Floor & Troy were launched as “officially” members of Nightwish

I got a lot of memories tied to listening to the nightwish albums when they came out. I have a big play list of songs and when it hits a Nightwish song I get taken back to those memories. It is always nice to come back to them. Edit: I don't really like deathcore or death metal but Lorne Shore - To the Hellfire just resonated with me. I've listened a few other ones but non of have hit the same.

Ryan returns to Nightwish! Huzzah! Elan - magical Marco harmonies... One of the great (and main) things about Tuomas' lyrics is that he intentionally leaves room for personal interpretation. The house of cards is a perfect example. Yes indeed - do more! What a great reaction for this amazing song from Nightwish. It`s so nice to hear your talking about music in generally and especially Nightwish music. I wish that my english would be better but I understood a part of your talking and I can say that music has pretty much same kind of effects to me. Of course especially Nightwish music is very important to me and I love this band so much. I can say that I have went through many hard times in my life and music has always help me my healing prosess. Of course I have had better times too in my life and music has walk with me also in those moments of happiness. Music is so great and it really walk with you in good days and in bad days. I've been along with you enjoying all of you Nightwish reactions, this is one of your best. I've heard this song 100s of times, its always been special. But taking the time to really savor the lyrics brought it to life and brought tears as ifit was my first time listening. Its such a great tribute to life and all the possibilities for joy in a day. One thought on castles made of worn cards. Well worn cards actually make better castles. They don't slip and slide like new ones, perhaps a nod to doing things the old way, in methods trusted and true. So much great stuff in there, just listening makes me happy and grateful to be alive, sharing this time in the sun.

Their concert at Hellfest in France is available on youtube right now along with Epica and a couple of others. You ought to get it while you can before it disappears like the virtual did. Noise starts the concert and the music video does not do the kickass nature of the song any justice.

The music was good and the flute adds another dimension. But since Dianne Van Giersbergen was force out by the idiots in Xandria, there hasn't been a better singer in Symphonic metal. Listern to their album Sacrificium- still the best album for this genre.
