Hello Bruce Deeble [ @TheMindofBruce ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band and Marco Hietala [Gandalf The Grey.. ], bassist and singer, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). @@TheMindofBruce I just saw your reaction (for the 3rd time...) and I noticed that you are interested in the lyrics. Here is another huge "plus" of Nightwish: their lyrics are always meaningful, poetic and often full of metaphors. "To blame" is Tuomas Holopainen (the keyboard guy) who composes the music and lyrics for most of the songs. He is considered by many fans as a great composer of those times - you will understand that in time.

Huge Megadeth fan here. Nightwish has recently taken over that spot. Seen them live twice. Her voice is no joke live. It really was something else. Jaw dropping really.

Not very big in the United States so shows in the states are sparse. Which makes it better cause the venues are small...much better. New album coming out soon but no tour with it. They all need a break I think. That last show I saw may of been the last time I see them live:(

Megadeth are great - I rediscovered Nightwish after watching a HOLY WARS reaction. That channel's next video happened to be GHOST LOVE SCORE and I thought "ah Nightwish, I remember them, wonder what they're up to these days". Found them in 2021, a few years younger but not far behind. And I agree, this band is great. Floor is the best rock/metal singer I have ever heard. Plus stage presence. With Thoumas's lyrics and composition, and the skill of the band. My favorite band.

Sir, do you know what I love more than watching people react to Nightwish for their first time? Well it's watching them react to their second Nightwish video for their first time! Then their third and fourth first time reactions! The next thing you know, they are unable to climb out of the Nightwish rabbit hole as they sink deeper and deeper! I am almost 69 years old. When I "discovered" Nightwish, it was through a reaction video of "Ghost Love Score" by 'The Charismatic Voice'-(credit where credit is due!) Now I am not a professional opera singer but like this reactor, I was "floored"! I needed more and soon enough I was trapped deep in that rabbit hole. I recall thinking 2 things early on during this adventure: 1: I've obviously been living under a rock, and 2: THIS BAND is THE BAND I've waited my entire life for! @@TheMindofBruce Sir, sorry ahead of time for the book. Ghost Love Score-(GLS), with Floor as the singer, was The Charismatic Voice's first introduction to and Reaction Video of Nightwish. Julia Nilon, a singing specialist, also does an amazing reaction video of GLS as her first reaction to Nightwish. There are hundreds of reaction videos to GLS @ Wacken 2013. And when you are ready, you will create one too! . You will be in great company because even Floor Jansen does a reaction video to her own singing of that song! (Talk about an informative reaction from an informed source!) I am hesitant to add this next bit but I saw that you had an interest in the meaning of Everdream. (Please be gentle fellow members, these are my thoughts based on what I could piece together as well as hear-say I've read in some of your posts.) Tuomas and Tarja-(Tar-yah) knew each other prior to the forming of Nightwish. I've heard that there may have been a love interest between these two but for whatever reason things didn't work out after (or prior to???), the band's formation. Tuomas wrote Everdream for Tarja to sing! (BTW, I dearly love Tarja's rendition of Everdream...it holds a special place in my heart!) From this perspective, Everdream likely held a deeper meaning for the writer, Maestro Tuomas. It further makes sense to me that Ghost Love Score is a metaphor for that same unrequited love from Tuomas's perspective. I do like Tarja's rendition of GLS but Floor utterly made it her own! For the record, I love the contributions made by all of the members of Nightwish, past and present. Whichever path you choose, sir, you have your work cut out for you! And we members of the Mighty Nightwish Army will be there to enjoy every second of that journey with you. Nuff said..

Nicely done! You can’t really go wrong with Nightwish live, especially from 2012 to the present while Floor’s been the singer, so I wouldn’t worry too much about reacting to songs in any particular order. The emotions you felt are normal…Tuomas (keyboardist who writes the vast majority of the music and lyrics) writes from a very personal, introspective place and Floor has the gift of being able to draw the emotions out of his lyrics and impart those emotions to the audience through her performance. It’s not uncommon to hear reactors say things like “why am I crying?” or “ I feel really emotional for some reason.” It’s all good…happens to most of us. ☮️

Welcome to Nightwish and symphonic metal. Emotions to spare when it comes to this band. The greatest thing about the keyboard player's music and lyrics is that most people can relate in one way or another, so all songs are awesome in that way. Yes, Tuomas writes all music and lyrics and Marko used to help with a couple songs on each album, however, he did present Tuomas with 1 or 2 songs he wrote himself which Tuomas took into consideration. To the Nightwish Army, this is the super group of the decade (2012-2020), and as far as bands go, Nightwish was voted the #1 symphonic metal band in the world beating out Epica who took a close second. Nightwish has a fanbase that reaches as far out as Mexico, US, Argentina, Brazil, all of Europe Colombia, Peru, Canada. They also participate in a cruise called 70,000 Tons of Metal along with many metal bands. I grew up with 80s rock and metal and established Def Leppard as my all time favorite band up until 2020. That's when I met Nightwish, and I haven't looked back. With Nightwish you fall into the rabbit hole head first. You're going to love your journey. Two exceptions to the live vs studio axiom: Noise, and Shoemaker. And as far as venues for live performances; for I Want My Tears Back, I definitely give the nod to Buenos Aires over Wacken. Both great, but Buenos Aires was insane!

NightWish Army Wisconsin Chapter here. I often asked why I am more attracted to female vocals versus male vocals. I was told that Female vocals present more empathy in their voice and tone. Male’s voice sings the words, but a female’s voice, you can actually FEEL the words. It’s all about bringing out your empathy and feeling the tone, not just hearing it. Hope this helps! ❤🤘

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. And now you have met two of the finest vocalists in metal today. Floor Jansen and Marko Hietala are great soloists, and when they sing in harmony, "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts." And then, there is the rest of the band, Emppu on guitar, Jukka on drums and, behind the keyboard, the genius himself (sometimes called The Metal Mozart), Tuomas, who composes, music and lyrics, and arranges 90% of the many layered songs this band performs. Everyone in this band is a top professional, tremendously talented and dedicated to the song. You will find no egos here. They work together as a team and you just can't miss how tight they are. As you already noticed, they had to cancel the last few dates on their recent tour - Floor was heavily pregnant and was advised to stop performing after falling ill. Why you haven't heard Nightwish before... we could talk about the US music industry for hours and days. It's really hard for the outsiders. In Europe Nightwish has been huge for a long time. Earlier this year there was an article in the Metal Hammer magazine about which were the most five essential albums of Nuclear Blast - one of the most important record labels in Europe, which became famous and big when they acquired metal bands in its ranks in the 90s. Nightwish has been one of their jewels. One of the most essentials was Nightwish's Once album from 2004 and it was explained: "If you live in the US or any other market where power metal isn’t a predominant form of heavy music, you may not appreciate just how ffffn massive Nightwish actually are. The Finnish symphonic metal powerhouse have charted at number one in their home country with every album since 2000, and they’re routinely in the top 10 in Germany, Sweden, Greece and Austria. @TheMindofBruce I finished reading his book for the second time about a week ago. When you called him Gandalf, I remembered laughing at the quote (big fan of Tolkien). Took the quote directly from the second to last page. His hair is even lighter and longer now - after going through all the difficulties he has, I think he's earned the right to graduate from Gandalf the Grey and Gandalf the White. 🙂 He sings second vocals on a lot of songs, and primary or first vocals on some others. His work outside of Nightwish, past and present, is also greatly respected by the Metal Community. That's a wonderful rabbit hole to go down, as well as those of the other Nightwish members, past and present.

For "Gandalf" who is in fact Marko Hietala I highly recommend "The Islander" live at Tampere or from his solo work I cannot recomment "Song of My Father" highly enough, and the original Finnish language version "Iisani Aani" holds an even high esteem from me. It hits deep.
