This was the 13th song of a 15 song setlist . If you want something heavier then I suggest the song "Romanticide" from the same show Wacken 2013.

Intro time signature: 6/8, 6/8, 5/8. 6/8, repeat. When the guitar comes in they switch to 4/4, 4/4, 3/4, 4/4, repeat. It switches to 4/4 when the vocals begin. And although I haven't personally counted, I have seen tallies that this song changes key over 20 times. Amazing song and one of my all-time favs.

Thanks for posting that! I could tell something was changing and I didn't want to make everyone watch me try and figure it out :-) Not to mention I probably wouldn't have gotten it right anyway. (For the strangest time signature I've ever seen, there is a guitar piece by Pierre Bensusan called La Hora Espanola which has a long part in 3.5/4 (written as 3 1/2 / 4, but that doesn't translate so well with typing). Theoretically it could have been 7/8, but that wouldn't be quite right. Also, it's one of my all-time favorite guitar pieces (but not anything metal)

If you're into odd time signatures, try this one: "Twenty-one Eleven; Sina feat. Mark Moody". The name actually describes the time signature of the piece. It's not a song, but an instrumental for piano, drums and base. Sina is one of the (if not the) greatest drummers on KZbin. She has an impressive catalog of drumcovers, original work and collaborations with mainly up and coming young talents. You should check her out... kzbin.info/www/bejne/boSZqYxvdrSeqbMsi=_KCtLiEqTOAAalls

Just look on Google for a drum tab for this song and look at the time signature changes, it will blow you mind. And if you can believe this, this is not their most complex song, The Poet And The Pendulum is 13 minutes with 5 completely different sections and The Greatest Show On Earth is 24 minutes, recounting the story of evolution. On their latest double album, the second disk is a 30 minutes music score with full orchestra and choir. The rest are of more standard length, but still very interesting composition wise. Tuomas also did a solo project called Music Inspired by the Life and Times of Scrooge and the piece from it called A Lifetime Of Adventure has an official video that is fantastic. Here are some suggestion for Floor's previous bands: After Forever (Floor's 1st band) - Dreamflight Live ProgPower USA VIII (2007) After Forever - Monolith Of Doubt Live At Kopspijkers (2002) ReVamp (Floor's 2nd band) - Disdain Live at Graspop (2010) Revamp - Wild Card (Live at Bloodstock Festival 2014) HD

Those sound like some fantastic compositions. Being an old Pink Floyd and Rush fan, I'm used to (and really enjoy) longer pieces that have different sections. Might have to react to those via livestream though, I'm not sure my computer could process something that large :-) Thanks for the suggestions also!

Something that you should know about FLOOR JANSEN. She started singing in a symphonic metal band at just 16 years old. After Forever (1995-2009). Then she created a new Progressive Metal band, ReVamp (2009-2016). In 2018 she released a personal Hard Rock project (Northward). In 2012, she was invited by Nightwish to finish their world tour, after the band's second female singer (Annete Olzon) left. In 2013 she became Nightwish's full time lead Vocalist. She is a singing teacher. She sings in Dutch, German, English, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Italian and Latin. She sings Heavy Metal, Trash Metal, Pop, Rock, Symphonic Metal, Arya and Opera. She even sang rap. In March 2023 she launched her first Pop solo album "Paragon". THE BEST SINGER TODAY IN THE WHOLE WORLD. Having said that, I want to make it clear that I ADORE Nightwish songs, Walking in The Air by Tarja Turunen and Meadows of heaven by Anette Olzon.

kzbin.infogmjIHx10g1U?si=7zx2VpvoWesWhPRe. From Floor's YT channel. This is from Floor promoting her first solo single Fire on a radio show on Dutch radio station NPO 2 in 2022. There used to be a longer version of the performance but I think NPO 2 had it taken down. Lots of folks have always joked she could sing the phonebook. The host of the Dutch radio show jokingly asked if she could do it and being such great person she agreed to do it and of course, nailed it. Here is the song Fire that she sang afterwards as a promotion for her solo project and album Paragon. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3ycpYSXfM-amJI. Her solo stuff is more mainstream, She wanted something uniquely hers after 20 years in metal bands and having the best metal songwriter in Nightwish, it didn't make sense to duplicate that. It gives her an outlet to write songs and express her own creativity in a different way.

Actually, it's never difficult for me to recommend a song by a band or a singer to someone, because most of them have 4 or 5 highlights and that's it. With Nightwish and also with Floor Solo it looks completely different. I'm always at a loss when I have to recommend a song to someone. With them it doesn't matter which song you take, because it's always a highlight. Therefore, my recommendation is to start with A and work your way up to Z.

Yes, Tarja era, from the 2004 5th album, Once. It was performed by Tarja at the End of an Era show, same concert as the Phantom of the Opera video you watched. Floor added her touches, and styles, AND that ending. You are spot on with your observations of her, and she was only with the band about 10 months here. Since you are a drink connoisseur, as evidence by your channel title, Emppu (guitar) is drinking a Corona, and Tuomas usually has a bottle of red wine at his keyboards. What you noticed in the guitar solo, he is muting the upper strings , to let the note he is playing, ring true. Ghost Love Score is song # 13 of 15 , it's about an unrequited love, and is one of the 3 big epic songs to date. This song doesn't have any designated sections like the other 2 longer songs(The Poet and the Pendulum/ The Greatest Show On Earth),those have 5 sections each. GLS is the most common first song for reactors, and one of the most reacted to songs on KZbin. Note; it is recommended to wait awhile before checking out Poet..., as there is a huge back story dealing with the split with Tarja. More pyro🔥😁, check out "Romanticide" from this same Wacken concert.

Thanks for all that great info! Also, I could see drinking a Corona while playing, should be refreshing and won't dull the senses any. Red wine while playing though? Man, that's something special. I've tried playing the guitar after a bottle and it really didn't go so well (and that's me playing my level of music, not something virtuosic).

Nightwish Northern New England Division checking in. Really enjoyed your reaction and your obvious musical knowledge. You might enjoy this reaction by a professional composer where he analyzes all the key changes and the chord structure to demonstrate the musical genius behind Tuomas;s composition, based in music theory. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6LPZYxnZ92Vmc0si=zr84x64N4BdtdjSX. Tuomas uses 17 key changes but more importantly he doesn't use the most powerful chord resolution, chord 5.7 to chord 1 until the very end, building tension to the very end then releasing it when Floor hits "the note" and then repeats that powerful resolution in the instrumentation 5 times afterwards. This is why the song feels so amazing and we feel so satisfied at the end. If you go back and listen to the original with Tarja you will see that the ending is different and is missing "the note". When Floor first joined the band on tour in North America and when she had gotten comfortable with the band she started freestyling the vocals at the end of the song during rehearsals and the guys said oh that's great. You should do that on stage and so a number of weeks after joining, they did Floor's version and IMO the best version of the song hands down was created. Since you like Nightwish and Symphonic Metal and have an appreciation for classical techniques I would like to recommend another Symphonic Metal Band, Epica. They are Dutch and along with Nightwish, IMO, the two best symphonic metal bands. Fronted by another classically trained female vocalist, Simone Simmons, and founded be guitarist and vocalist Mark Jansen, who was one of the founders of Floor's first band After Forever before he left over creative differences with the other founder Sander Gommans (who was also Floor's boyfriend at the time). Epica tends to be more symphonic then Nightwish and makes extensive use of choirs, They also tend to be darker and heavier, frequently using Mark's death metal gutturals as a contrast to Simone's beautiful soprano vocals. They also have some of the most beautiful ballads where SImone's voice really shines. Their lyrics tend to be thoughtful and very empowering. My recommendation for a first listen is the song Unleashed from their 10th anniversary Retrospect concert with a full orchestra and choir on stage. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKnHZ6augd2Xr9Usi=PLEhtjd3yZLMIzPH. I think it is a great introduction to the sound and the production for this special concert is outstanding. Later this year they are having 3 concerts (two in the Netherlands and one Mexico City) with a live orchestra and orchestra again for the first time in 10 years. As the band says, a once in decade show.

Wow, lots of great info here - thanks! I'll definitely check out that key change video (just clicked on the link and haven't seen that reactor before, but I always like when composers react). I know what you mean about resolving back to the 1 chord giving such a sense of closure. One of my favorite songs of the last year (not metal in any way shape or form) does something similar, not even PLAYING the 1 chord until the end (something I wouldn't have picked up on my own, but another composer/reactor pointed it out). I'll also give Epica a shot, and I appreciate the direct link. :-)

@@DadDaughtersandDrinks Most fans recommend holding off on that Magnus Opus until you get to know the band better. There is a huge backstory to the song regarding the band firing their first singer Tarja and the fans backlash against Tuomas personally. It drove him into a deep depression and he wrote Poet and the Pendulum to as a way of processing that depression. One of the most personal and emotional Nightwish song for Tuomas and their fans. I encourage reactors to do some research on the backstory (read the open letter by the band firing her and the open letter by Tarja in response, interviews with Tuomas, song analysis by the artist Annike Hausen) which will give you a deeper emotional reaction to the song and a better understanding of why many of us consider it their greatest song. However if you prefer to go in blind I totally respect your choice and look forward to when you see this amazing masterpiece.
