It has been a while since my last NIGHTWISH REACTION, so I'm super excited to see another one from them.
This is their live cover of the song "HIGH HOPES" by PINK FLOYD, which I didn't know, so I listened to the original beforehand.

For all my life (67y old Dutch bloke) I am a fan of Pink Floyd and have see them several times. A song I always loved and is on my all time playlist. Nightwish did not cover this one, this is the ultimate tribute from an exceptional band to a exceptional band. Nightwish, by the way, I only started following after seeing Floor Jansen participating in Beste Zangers. Nightwish and Floor now belong to my category of exceptional bands/musicians (Queen/Freddy Mercury, David Bowie, Santana, Bob Marley, Frank Zappa, U2, Cranberries, The Cure). And seen them all in my younger years, and many more. And later on got to know Sabaton, Ayreon, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Kamelot, Toehider, Avantasia. All because of me liking Floor and Nightwish.

This is a spectacular performance from Marko. A great tribute to Pink Floyd, and it has also the full approval by David Gilmour. Haha, the new Nightwish album is coming next year. 😎👍

This was Tarja's last concert with them, they all knew their was a pinkslip awaiting their front person and lead vocalist, and she was off changing clothes again. With friends around me, and the Endless River take on different meanings knowing this was going on at the time. I think this was their way of saying no matter what, we gonna continue and be alright.

The original is full of melancholy and sadness. This version is desperate, full of anger, rage.... that life will never be as innocent and as colorful as before. It's incredible how an arrangement can change the meaning of each sentence.

Yes...Marco nails this with the guys as a tribute to PF. Tuomas made heavier version for NW to perform. Check the whole concert of "End of an Era" 2005 Helsinki ... the last concert with Tarja - the original singer and founding member - and the line up which made Nightwish great and known by the whole world (from the school band level)...before replacements and substitutes came. Check also concert "From Wishes to Eternity" in 2000 before Marco...to get perspective for NW.

Emppu keeps a bowl or basket full of picks on an amp onstage (next to his Corona!) and is known for tossing them! Playing his custom ESP EV-1!

Funfact: When Nightwish had a concert in China the band had the strict instruction not to throw anything into the audience. Emppu reacted to this by throwing extra amounts of picks into the audience!

I really can't say enough how much I find this performance underappreciated... I love this one. @YB how about trying some Middle-Eastern/Oriental metal? Orphaned Land are the ones who literally coined the term and defined the Genre... They have a wide spectrum from ballads to headbangers, so if you want a more specific song suggestion - let me know.

Another neat reaction, good to see you tackle NW again ♥ This one is one of those Nightwish songs (even tho it's a cover) that always calm me down when I'm struggling with my mental health, just for the style of instrumentation and Marco's beautiful vocals. Back when I was a teenager, around 15 yrs old, suffering from severe depression, I used to hear this through headphones to help me fall asleep while originally a mood for crying kept me awake. Today, realizing it magically manages to slow down and sorta "stabilizing" my heart rate, I sometimes also use it for breathing exercises during dry freedive training. If you want to do some recent Nightwish, you definitely should check out Shoemaker live at Hellfest!! It's just incredible.

The PF original had a feeling of melancholy, Nightwish's is anguish. I wonder if knowing what is coming after this concert, they poured their heart into this performance.

Amazing tribute and Marko shines in it. But I think Emppu is a bit underappreciated. He does a magnificent job with that ESP EV1 (Emppu Vuorinen 1).

About drumming, I think I figured why Jukka is so interesting: I think he focuses on syncing the hits with the melody of the song. This way the drumming is more impactful. Kai´s drumming is all over the place, adding little nuances anytime, but Jukka is trying to create a firework blast every time he hits the set. Hard to explain, it would require to compare the sheet music for keyboard and the drums to see the parallels. That´s my sense of it. And I actually prefer it, and would like to learn to play like Jukka.

Fijn je te zien, you are one of the few qualitie reactors. The song has a high quality because it is driven by the fantastic drum performance of Yuka. Better than the original, emotional, rough, better singing, the backbone again, the driving drumming. Another cover of them is from Megadeth, symphony of destruction. Also a leadsinging from Marco. The second I discovered is from Ozzy Osborne, Crazy train. Fantastic covers from Nightwish, I wish they would that offended. You have to look for the better videos, unfortunately they are not all from a great level. Groet uit de polder /Nederland 🍀

This is a BIG suggestion, I won't be offended if you ignore it: since you do good reactions to studio work, spend some time with Anette. Do two ballads from Dark Passion Play: Meadows of Heaven and Eva (you could do the music videos too, but the ballads are for me what really distinguishes her voice). Then start going through the Imaginaerum album in order, and hopefully you'll like it enough to keep going! It's my second-favourite NW album (Human :II: Nature is third), but hardly ever gets reactions because reactors are hypnotised by Floor's stellar voice and live presence. Just a thought!

Why don’t you react to both virtual shows NW did in 2021? A mix of the Human:ll:Nature album and older songs. Almost live (they had a delay of 20 min or so in case something went wrong, but no time for post processing the sound. And that sound was great!
