Finnish person speaking english: understood. Dutch person speaking english: understood. British person speaking gibberish: WTH?
@flashpeter6256 жыл бұрын
That's actually quite typical. Native speakers will understand each other almost no matter what. Some are so comfortable with the language/dialect, and so detached from how quirky it is, that it becomes difficult to understand for non-native speakers. This applies especially for native English speakers, who rarely know any other language well or at all, so they just have no idea what makes something hard to understand for non-natives.
@michaelsteel80595 жыл бұрын
@@flashpeter625 it indeed has to do with the different dialects that exist in a certain language. And this basically applies to all languages. But in this case, the interviewer has the task to ask his questions in clear English as clearly as possible. You do have to deal with foreigners who do not all understand the language, let alone understand the dialect in that language.

I like what Floor said about sitting down with a good set of headphones or speakers, and actually listening to an album in order, to hear the songs in the order the artist meant. That is super important in Metal, as often the groups ARE telling a long story via the songs, or are moving you through a thematic voyage.

Floor Jansen is the #Empress of Heavy Metal music. There's no one out there like her. I am actually glad that I got to become a Nightwish fan with her as the lead vocalist. Their previous work-Pre-Jansen-is great, but just not as impactful in my opinion. Floor's metal approach and powerful voice is something else!

Nice interview but that interviewer, wow, at times he was very hard to understand. What happened to speaking normal, standard English, or at least try to lose the accent a bit? People have accents and that's fine, but as an interviewer you have to be somewhat clear in presenting questions I'd say. Marco and Floor were way easier to understand and they're not even English.
@joshy_bish9 жыл бұрын
That's just his accent, there's lots within the English language.
@ultimaforsan8999 жыл бұрын
+George Jansen It seems obvious but it's likely the guy has never even considered that he might be hard for others to understand. It's partly the fault of his accent (changing th to f etc), but probably more to do with poor verbal skills in general. He mumbles and stutters, he struggles to form complete sentences, he mixes up words like astronomy and astrology, and so on. I feel that people with strong regional accents should be taught in school to be able to express themselves clearly, if only to increase their own employability. The rest of the world does not have a duty to work to understand every bizarre variant of English.

The interviewer is not a random person out of Camden talking to the band. This is his profession. Even everybody in the world has a certain accent, when they attend a meeting or conduct an interview or speak formally in a formal setting, they have an obligation to speak clearly and in a general understandable and clean accent of that particular language.

Late reply sorry but I still wanted to respond to it. I was very happy and impressed with that. It certainly shows the intelligent and down-to-earth personality of Floor and it's beautiful to see (could also be because she is Dutch. Quite some Dutch people are pretty down-to-earth. Something I sometimes feel some proud about^^) She is an artist and so are all the other bandmembers and it's very good to stand still, take a moment to understand that. And I fully agree with her too. Heck almost everything that goes 'wrong' in the world is lack of knowledge/educaion. It is so very vital and I really love she explained this all very thoroughly while staying professional and not preachy or somehting. It is just a very good answer/conversation of truth and experience.

Very intelligent and clear answer to the leaking of songs, what it does to the band and the loyal fans :) A lack of knowledge and education. Floor you have used an anser that is liek the answer to all kinds of things that go wrong. Impressed by the intelligent answers of her and also Marco :3 I wouldn't have mind Floor stopping a bit on camara to take in everything around her. That also is 'in the moment' and seeing a (newer) member of a band you love feeling good, happy and appreciative and even wauwed, that actually also add up to a great experience in my opinion :3 And is it just me or was the interviewer a little hard to understand sometimes? I understand Floor and Marco completely but I sometimes have a harder time to understand some Brittish accents as a non-native speaker of English. I am Dutch, Like Floor.

Nice interview :) I agree with what Marco and Floor said, it's not about the money. I'm pretty sure they know that hearing the leak won't suddenly just stop all fans from buying the album or going to concerts. It's really a matter of disrespect. Leaks happen all the time, so I know that we're all desensitized to it. But just because we've accepted it as "normal" doesn't mean it's right. Nightwish is justified in being angry. BUT I will say whoever posted that rant on the nightwish facebook page should have taken a second to calm the fuck down before going full CAPS on us lol. Not saying the contents of the rant itself were wrong, but rly? That's incredibly unprofessional ._. I feel that a lot of people who would've otherwise sided with the band in this situation were totally turned away by that.
