Marko is pretty much a comparable talent to Floor IMO. He wrote the music to this piece and Tuomas contributed the amazing lyrics. Thanks for the reaction guys!

Talent is the starting point and gets you only so far - both Marko and especially Floor have spent thousands of hours of training their voices and perfecting their technologies - to get to their level hard work and dedication is needed in great amounts..

Thank you for the reaction. The song The Islander was composed by Marko Hietala, but it didn’t fit the style of Tarot (Marko is the singer of the band), so it became a Nightwish song with lyrics by Tuomas Holopainen. If you want to hear more of Marko, Tarot’s Tides or Nightwish’s Master Passion Greed are great songs. If you want to get really nostalgic, Tarot’s Wings of Darkness from the 80s is a good choice. For the season, the Raskasta Joulua songs featuring Marko are also great. My favorite is ‘Tulkoot Joulu,’ which features a great lineup of top Finnish singers, including Tony Kakko, who was also Nightwish’s early male vocalist

Yes, Marco wrote this song and Tuomas added the lyrics. Marco is not only a great singer (with a pretty large range despite his botched throat operation) but also a very good 6-string guitar player. In his previous band(s) he played lead guitar but he switched to bass and can still play 6--string as you've seen

Yes please do the Triangle❣️🤘 At the Tampere concert Floors and Markos voice have been in the best shape possible! And Floor was so happy at the end of the song because Marko had a surgery on his vocal cords. She helped him to recover. Hoping for An ocean of strange islands🤘 and Laternlight of their latest album Yesterwynde❣️

Enjoyed teh reaction! Music by Marko, Lyrics by Tuomas. Marko originally wrote the music for his band Tarot but decided it wasn't a good fit so he brought it to Tuomas and Nightwish. Tuomas said he instantly envisioned a sea chanty and a lonely lightkeeper. I've seen that Floor is a coloratura soprano, which allows Floor incredible versatility & range.

I n my opinion, Floor is a spinto soprano.they have a darker voice than other sopranos. Their range is capable of deeper notes up to very high, but even at the top of their range they don't have a thin or brassy sound. Spintos are also known for jumping octaves and landing precisely on pitch. There are lyric soprano who have damaged their voice singing spinto roles. Multiple great roles in Verdi operas are written for spintos. But spintos are rare, and often are sung by other soprano who have to really push themselves to make it sound credible. My opinion of course, and few things in music are as debated as the female soprano classifications. 😁

Never say never - Marko could still well perform with Nightwish at some point. I have understood there wasnt bad blood between Marko and the band. He was just in a bad place mentaly and wanted a break from everything. He said that "music industry" was the problem professionally - not the band.

He spend some time "off grid" and then went back to his smaller projects and few collaborations with Tarja, where he is propably a lot less dependent on the BIG companies controlling most of the big festivals etc. He also got diagnose and treatment to some of his mental hardships, which propably is a big contributor that he is back in business at all. I dont think we will se Marko as part of Nightwish anymore, but some "guest" appearances could well happen.

Let's hope so 🙏. In the meanwhile, I'm happy that he still makes music and keeps performing. He was great last summer singing solo, he was great singing with Tarot, and also at the Heavy Christmas concert last Friday. I feel lucky to be able to hear him sing and it's great to see him happy on stage.

Oh man, the triangle is the worst instrument to play if you don't have an absolutely perfect sense of rhythm. Play it correctly, no-one notices, have a couple milliseconds advanced or delayed hit all are sure to notice.
