This song is high art. You have Tuomas and you have the allegorical "poet". The poet dies and then meets with his parents in the afterlife while Tuomas meets with his parents during the here and now and they console him for the pain he's gone through. The dichotomy occurs in several points during the progression. Stunning skill at composition.

I get what you mean but I can understand what people who said that ment. It wasnt like "theyre nothing without her" cuz as you say Tuomas is the genius behind it all but for many people (myself include) what made me a Nightwish fan *was* that very unique sound, I also listened to Within Temptation, Edenbridge and Epica but Nightwish stood above them and when Tarja disappeared that very unique sound changed and it never felt really the same (untill Floor) I always loved both Tarjas voice *and* Tuomas music so I was one of the people who stuck around anyway, I also though Annette was a really good singer but as most I didnt feel the match was all that it could be. Honestly I think people who said Nightwish wasnt Nightwish without Tarja was 100% convinced they would never find a replacement good enough and I cant blame them for that, Im still kinda in chock they actually found Floor. To think there were 2 singers of that calibre on the metal stage and the same band managing to snatch both of them... those odds must be astronomical.

That was what happened with me as well. I heard one song, just one freakin' song after Tarja, then I stopped listening to Nightwish. I did not listen to them for years and then suddenly, a reaction video of Ghost Love Score appeared on my homepage and it got my attention. I know it was Tarja's song but it wasn't her on the thumbnail and it wasn't Anette either so I figured they have a new singer. I watched it... and I've been obesessing over them since then. Also, I tried listening to Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum just to see how I will feel about it now and I find some of the songs quite enjoyable. Anette was definitely different from Tarja but she wasn't bad. Her voice has its own charm. But Floor... Floor... Holy crap.

Yeah, Annette isn't a bad singer, but she just didn't fit the Nightwish sound that we all loved with Tarja. I also stopped listening to Nightwish during Annette's tenure. Thankfully they got Floor to join them and it's been amazing. And while I will sometimes go back and listen to Annette's versions of Tarja songs, I'm always underwhelmed. She does some really interesting versions, but I think the fact she just can't sing that style really hurts her performances of those. Floor can come out and nail Tarja's songs as well as Annette's. Though, occasionally, there are some songs, Nemo for example, that I still go back to Tarja's versions because even Floor, for me, just doesn't quite reach the same places inside that Tarja did.

Personally, I never could understand Tarja's "Who me?" reaction to getting fired. She said "I don't see myself like that", but this is the same bimbo who gave an interview in a German magazine in which she dissed the band, the music AND the fans--all while still a member of Nightwish. Tuomas saw it as a betrayal, hence the bitterness of the lyrics to "Bye Bye Beautiful". From what I understand, the record label wasn't very happy about it either. The woman had to go.

Two things a really love about this reaction...you take the time to explain the background of what happened and why this is such a personal and painful song for Tuomas, it’s so vital to understanding the complexity of the arrangement and lyrics....and I absolutely love how Sistah is so into the song, dancing along and getting emotional, really empathising with it. So many reactions are just people sitting and staring at the screen, but not this one. Something about this video in particular is how Marko and Empu end up going to hang out with Tuomas on stage, just being near him. They know how hard this song is for him, and it’s really touching to see.

Either cuz lazy or to pump out as many vids a day as possible as it benefits you in the algorithm. It lacks the passion and to make anything high quality you gotta have passion. I wouldnt actually call this a reaction channel but music passion channel that includes reaction. Tuomas never intended Nightwish to become this huge Heavy Metal band. He had a thought, an idea, of a small folk music band. He invited Tarja Turunen in because she was already a singer and he knew her from school. She was fifteen and he was seventeen. But soon Tuomas realised that the lyrics he wrote could not be sung with just acoustic music. It had to be more. Much more. Louder. Tarja stayed on board and other musicians were called upon and stayed and Nightwish was born. As simple or as complicated as that.

You should have made the connection between Edgar Allan Poe's "The pit and the pendulum", as a terrifying story about psychological and physical torture, and the kind of pain Tuomas was experiencing in order to write "The poet and the pendulum". A key line is "the swaying blade, my lullaby". When said connection is established, it is a horrendous line: How can the swaying blade depicted in The pit and the pendulum can be a lullaby for someone unless that someone is in a pit so deep and dark?

He felt like committing suicide but decided to channel it into music so he committed "metaphorical" suicide rather than doing it in real life. He has since admitted that he has finished "sailing through dark waters" and is much happier now. He has the audio tech cut off the lyrics from his ear pieces when they play this song so he doesn't have to relive it over and over. Hope that helps with the background! As a contrast, I would REALLY love to see your reaction to their biggest epic hit "Nightwish - The Greatest Show On Earth (Live Tampere 2015)". You will cry tears of complete happiness. Tell me, You now i will love you everytime". I think he told her everything whats happened for the last 9 years ago. After this he wrote the lyricks and before he performed the music, he changed the lyricks and he but the end with the dead of the poet on the beginning of the song and then he composed the music. What do you think about my meaning?

I connect with Tuomas as the writer as the core of Nightwish whereas many fans connect with the vocalist as the access to the band which is why so many fans in 2005 really blew their tops as hardcore tarja fans and hated Dark Passion Play in 2007. Imaginaerum wasn't written FOR Annette in particular, it was written with the film in Tuomas' mind and the film soundtrack. Imaginaerium It's a beautiful film about losing the opportunity to fix a broken relationship between a father and daughter because of dementia and the old man's previous bad experience with his own father and how his dementia is tormenting him now about his broken relationship with his little girl as all his memories are lost and as she finds his memories clearing his house. It's beautiful and tragic. Classic Tuomas. Painfully real to watch. A must see.

Thank you for this. Yours is one of the best reaction channels out there and I appreciate you going in depth to not only the songs but the bands and the people behind the music. Never become one of those channels where they only nod their head to the beat and say nothing of substance. And since you two really seem to feel the music don't be afraid to pause and gather yourself when needed, I myself started to watch this reaction and soon realized that I have to put it off for another half an hour since I had just ordered food and didn't want to go open the door crying my eyes out. :) Subscribed!

Love your reaction to this song! As someone who struggled with depression, that turned me into an alcoholic, this song touched me in much the same way it affected Sistah! I felt all of the emotions...and cried the first time I heard the song! Thankfully....I finally told myself "enough is enough!" I am now 22 years and 45 days sober! Well...thank you for the excellent reaction video...and you have a new subscriber!

Y'know, one of the things I love about your channel above all others is the fact that you DO YOUR RESEARCH. In spite of the fact some viewers dislike the lengthy dialogue before the reaction, if you care about the music, it lends so much more gravitas because it shows you care enough to build a foundation of understanding to bolster your own reaction, as well as enrich the playing field to give greater depth to the reaction. In this instance, it gives depth and background to Tuomas's pain and some nuance to the song's origin. Y'all keep being you.

Imaginaerum isn't the typical Nightwish album, and I love it, but view it as different from most of their other work. It is more of a rock opera than a symphonic metal album. To be honest, it reminds me of Beethoven's Last Night by Transiberian Orchestra. It's more of an epic poem set to music than discrete songs.

If you`re not senstive, if you never experienced pain and despair, you won`t be able to write such a masterpiece as this. You need to fall down before you`re able to get up and move on and this symphony from the 21 century is a great example of this. I cry every time, touched by the voice of Floor and the lyrics and all that comes together in this beautifull piece of art.

I still remember where I was when my friend called me and told me about Tarja being removed from Nightwish. It was a huge shock, and to be honest, it has taken me almost this long to start listening their "era of Tarja" albums . I waited the release of "Eva" in front of my radio (they announced the day for it) and when I first heard Anette, I did like her but it was not instant love like with Tarja's voice. But I listened more and I love her era of Nightwish also, and especially Scaretale and Storytime are my favourites from her. And then... "The era of Floor" begins, but I didn't really paid any attention to the band, unfortunately, before all the reaction videos started basically jump to my screen and I have to say that the Nightwish is now PERFECT

What an epic piece of art! I don't know why people would think you're faking it, but they're wrong, and idiots, besides, so don't worry about them. And I think the name Wolf was looking for, as to the name of the type of singing done by those boys, would be either falsetto, or possibly castrato. PS Don't change the format of these videos. Wolf is like a teacher here, and his lectures have value for their own sake, besides enhancing the experience for you and many of your fans.

This song was written for Floor. It may have been written long before she joined the band, but she is what Tuomas has always wanted in that spot. He actually considered her back in 2006, but he didn't want to steal After Forever's vocalist. They were all really good friends, and toured together. The planets finally aligned when he called Floor in 2012.

you should check out their original vocalist about whom this song is made to realize why she was so utterly valuable .... kzbin.info/www/bejne/moe7dJekqdJ8ZpY .... kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWnWooB-adujp6s and here is the real story behind this song...Tarja (vocalist at the time) was no longer physically and vocally capable of sustaining long tours on a 24 hour party bus full of liquor, smoke and groupies..her sleep was suffering, there was poor hotel security and no privacy...in 2003 Tarja decided to go solo, but agreed to stay for the rest of the tour, until successor could be found..her terms for better, more secure accommodations along with much shorter tours, and one more album...they agreed but slowly changed their mind without telling her...then, after the the last concert( in which, she performed sick) they posted an open letter accusing her of being a greedy, diva (as she was recovering from the sheer exhaustion and effects of the throat infection and fever),..naturally. as her rep was superb, the fans, media and critics came down hard on Tuomas(the leader of the band)....this song is his way of playing the martyr, saying"why me, what did i do?"

Wolf is right we are not getting any younger. I cant believe im going to be 49 next month, so far my metal journey has lasted 36 years, and its still going. Im always discovering new bands that I like. its been a fun journey. I discovered Nightwish back in 2004 with the song/video "Nemo" and have been in love with Nightwish's music ever since. Their music helped me get thru a prescription narcotics addiction. Music really is a universal language, and metal spoke the loudest and clearest to me. you both are like teachers/ professors. Wolf for his knowledge, and HalfLifeSistah for her reactions/ emotions. Love you both, don't change your format.
