At the bar one guy (Tarja's friend) came to him and said right to his face, how bad person he is by treating Tarja so badly. It hurt Tuomas like thousand needles. He listened that bleeding for five minutes, went home and wrote lyrics to this song. With these lyrics he wanted to say to some people, what he really thought of them. Later that morning he read the lyrics again, removed all the f- words, and Slaying the dreamer was ready. Book Nightwish, published 2006 About Marco - when he joined band their sound got heavier. Guitar and bass more upfront in the mix. Previous two albums were more like 'operatic power metal' but Century Child album started 'Film Music Metal' era. Marco had a big impact on everything. He was Heavy Metal legend in Finland before he joined Nightwish.

This is another of Tuomas' angry songs. Emppu's guitar at the beginning sounds like it wants crawl off the stage and eat someone. Tuomas writes about 95% of the music and lyrics and Marko contributes on a few here and there. If you want to hear what a really angry Nightwish sounds like, give a listen to "Master Passion Greed". Powerful stuff . Did you notice, how Thomas hammered his instrument with a fist...hot damn 🤘😎🤘!!!! Tuomas, Nightwish's songwriter, wrote this one night in a fit of rage, and had to edit it later on to get rid of all the profanity. It's an angry song directed toward the greed of mankind, and their stupidity. Floor is able to handle both the Operatic songs from the Tarja era and the more pop style of Annette, so that the band was able to have great live concerts doing a "Decades" tour with so much of their older music mixed between the different eras pre Floor. Also I think everyone wants "Live" Nightwish because the live shows were with Floor before Tuomas was able to write new music for the Floor era. This song was from the Tarja era and Tarja did a great job with it as it was written for her style, but it's great that Floor can also cover this music from the early days of Nightwish. Told you it had vocal acrobatics. And the final two triplets st the end of such a concert! Marco wrote some music and lyrics - While Your Lips Are Still Red and The Islander for example. This song is largely about the corruption wrought by greed and how it is affects people. There are a number of parallels or examples drawn with the Bram Stoker depiction of vampirism, such as the line “Put a stake through my heart, and drag me into sunlight”. I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to it as apparently Tuomas toned down the lyrics from his original as they were too angry. Not sure how true that is - did I see it in a Tuomas interview years ago or did I read it somewhere? (The Army will tell me.) I think I read somewhere that it was about Tarja's husband, as was Master Passion Greed, but as it was written some years before Tarja left I don't give that a lot of credence. If it WERE true then I would interpret the Dreamer as Tuomas himself and his dreams being killed by Tarja's attitude to the band, as seen through their eyes.

Nice interlude, great song. I am having an overdose of Floor today and I do not mind. Just watched yesterdays registration of Floors solo performance at Pinkpop (biggest and oldest music festival in the Netherlands) with guest appearance of Henk Poort , now watching Danny Vera (around 2000 class mate of Floor at the Tilburg Rockacademy) and then going on to the performance of Nightwish at Pinkpop. Floor had a busy day with two appearances ;-)

Thanks guys again❤. Usually it was, that Tuomas wrote the song and lyrics as far as he thought was enough. Usually he and Marco prepared the "raw versions" of the music and lyrics, like Marko singing and playing. Then they asked the rest to join them so that Tuomas could "fine tune" the songs with the band. But it depends what album was prepared. But Tuomas is NW❤. And we all miss Marko but he is doing great😂🎉❤❤. Amazing music and collaborations with different bands/combos. He has bangers tunes where he is singing in Finnish❤. Have you listen "Tarot" already?

Tuomas does take input from other members, I think Empuu tweaks the guitar parts und adds his flair und Herr Wolfman is correct, Marko worked the closest with Tuomas but when Floor arrived Tuomas was able to get really creative due to ability of Floor to sing anything. Great commentary after song from you folks, the F bomb is widely used worldwide, I use it everyday myself when things start hurting in the knees.

I will recommend you watch "The making of endless forms most beautiful" - it's a little over 2 hours documentary about how they work. In short: Tuomas writes the stories / tellings. He then composed the raw music line, hearing Floor's voice and all the instruments in his head. He records the raw material with him on piano - and sends it to the others. The others listen and interpret, calling Tuomas if there are some red lines in the story they don't understand. (remember his lyrics are complexed!) Then they meet after 3 - 4 weeks, coming with their individual interpretations. Sometimes the story or the composition changes dramatically (Troy changed My Walden completely and Marko changed Yours is an empty hope) - do nothing is static. Floor is in charge of how she will sing including the chorus. We all know how well she has made her own versions of the the old songs... Same goes for the others - Kai, drums, Emppu guitar etc etc. But all the classics are made by Tuomas and enhanced by Pip in London (old friend of Troy as well). All the individual interpretations of the stories in the music are made to enhance the red lines in the stories. Like when Floor remade the ending in Ghost love Score and Shoemaker - and the acoustic version of How is the Heart (Troy and Floor together made this). But there are lots of samples - Edema Rue is another one. I recommend that you watch the documentary - it tells a lot, from the surroundings and how and why they work so well together - they are in sync with Tuomas's work - maybe because he understands how to get the ultimate out of each of the others = they all evolves and gets better - including Tuomas, because he has no limitations anymore, they make him evolve too.

All songs start in the mind of Tuomas, music, lyrics and orchestration begins with him. He said he sees and hears the song as a small movie in his head, the sounds and lyrics in his head, he then creates a demo tape with lyrics, music, and orchestration and presents it to the band when he thinks he has got it as perfect as he can. The band members suggest riffs and vocal directions if they see where they can make it better, if he agrees, they roll with it. This song was Tuomas' response to negative music critics trying to destroy his work with their negative words.

I've watched all your video's and I have to say I love them you two are fantastic. You have reacted to everdream which was great however you really need to watch / react to the live at wacken 2013 version. I understand that you have already done it but the wacken version is by far the best rendition of everdream I've seen and even if you don't do a reaction video just watch it yourselves because as such lovely people you owe it to yourself to see this incredible song and Floor just nails the most perfect rendition ever it's spectacular. If you do just watch it at home could you comment in one of your other videos to say you have seen it please. Also you have done so many videos of Nightwish you may start to run out of videos to react to. This video ( slaying the dreamer) is fantastic. I love the way you both are when watching this spectacular band and especially to floor performance. I watched your video of how's the heart ( both but especially the one where you react to the acoustic and the normal version) I'm not usually an emotional person but even I shed a few tears watching that one. When the acoustic version came out I must admit it done things to me a music video has never done before. Tuomas writes the most beautiful and emotional compositions I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. Floor is the icing on the cake as far as Nightwish goes. She has insane superhuman like levels of performance. Never heard such a rediculously talented singer like her in metal before. Okay.....now you've heard this version. To hear "Angry Marko" you need to react to Slaying the Dreamer in the 2005 End of an Era concert with Tarja. Tensions were tight as it was Tarja's last concert with NW, but she didn't know that.

@@SueSueandthewolfman I will give you what I have read in comments. Tarja married Marcello who became her manager and asked for more money because he believed she was the face of NW. This caused strife in the band. Tarja and Marcello stopped traveling with the band and flew on different flights to concerts. The US tour was for small venues and T&M wanted a bigger payday. Tarja said she would no longer tour in the US. She was who the fans came to see and she was going to go solo after the next album. She began skipping rehearsals and wanted the sold out concert in Oslo cancelled. The boys voted her out and she was informed in a letter signed by every member the band. I will now get castrated by my NW Army fans and friends for saying what I have read in comments. The breakup was handled badly. The "LETTER was released to the fans, making it very public. Many fans turned on the band but Tuomas received most of the hate, which is why he fell into a depression. This is why we have the masterpiece "Poet and the Pendulum". Okay guys, I'm done. Bring on the HATE.

Been there, Wolfman. It’s our fault when things go unnoticed. But tomorrow is Father’s Day…. So hopefully a reprieve. Nightwish just played PinkPop in the Netherlands yesterday. There is a good quality video of the one-hour set out on KZbin now - a daytime performance. You might want to check out some songs from that. Tuomas does all the lyrics. He initiates all the music compositions and gets input from the other members of the band, sometimes having more influence than others.

Losing Marko was a blow to the structuring process...I'm sure Tuomas will do ok formulating the new album...which hes already written. He'd usually meet w him and Marko would record demos that the rest of the band would then add to and shape from Tuomas' original composition. Seems very open and easy for such a tightknit group. Sue, I like the blonde! I've been wanting to go gray for awhile but I gave super pale skin and it might be wrong. I remain short, dark cherry red/brown. Seems to work. It's a big commitment, going gray! So funny your daughter's comment! My mom turns 86 next week...I took her to her 1st concert when I was 15...she tends to like everything I do...but struggles with Rammstein bc she doesn't speak German...and she's only half in on Electric Callboy (whom I highly recommend, start w Hypa Hypa) bc there's some screaming...but she loves Nico's clean vocals and their videos are effing hilarious! Check them out if you're feeling adventurous! Another great reaction. Tuomas writes most of the music although I know Marko has written some songs. I think he wrote the melodies for the Islander and Tuomas might have added the lyrics. They also wrote While Your Lips are Still Red together. NPO2, the Dutch Public Radio Station, sponsored livestreams of the Pinkpop concert yesterday with pretty good audio quality. jenniezelf, a Dutch Nightwish fan who has done yeoman work recording Nightwish and Floor performances we can't see in the states, often adding English sub titles, has posted the whole Nightwish performance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKO4oGmbjcaEd6M Unfortunately whoever was doing the live stream cut the stream right before Floor was about to perform Ad Astra (last movement of All the Works of Nature that Adorn the World, Human Nature Disc 2) which is the show ender/outro for the current tour. Omega Nightwish has also uploaded Floor's whole solo perfromance from Pinkpop that happened a few hours before she performed with Nightwish. Check out: Nightwish - Making of new album 2015, episode 3 It is only 6 minutes or so. Tuomas tells about the process of writing an album. In the end credits of Tampere 2015 concert video it says all songs and lyrics by Tuomas except My Walden, Weak Fantasy, The Greatest Show on Earth, music by Tuomas and Marko. The Islander, music by Marko. Yours is an Empty Hope, Weak Fantasy, lyrics by Tuomas and Marko. 7 Days to the Wolves is co- written by Tuomas and Marko. I assume Marko wrote part of the music. The other members have their say after Tuomas presents his demo of the new album to the rest of the band, and during the rehearsals. Obviously Marko knew many things before the rest of the band. Tuomas is open for suggestions and changes, but in the end he decides. Marko did some vocal editing for the Tampere 2015 concert video, and post production sound mixing for Wacken 2013 DVD. In the past he used to work as a sound engineer, studio and live. He played the bass on one of Delain's, a Dutch symphonic metal band, and sang as well, and did sound engineering. He has been on stage with Delain many times. During the pandemic he sang one track on the newest Therion, a band from Sweden, album, and he sang a song as a visiting vocalist with Waltari and also with Mika Jaakkola. I saw one gig under his own name coming up, might have been a vine festival? And one with Northern Kings on a big metal festival in Helsinki this summer. (I read he bought a house in Spain. A paparazzi magazine even told the prize of it.)

This show was so good as they drew from the band history for the set list. Marko did composing to Islander. Tuomas wrote lyrics. Also Emppu have composed one song "Who Ever Brings The Night". If you want to hear one great Marko's song give a try to Circus Of Rock - Sheriff Of Ghost Town. Only audio, no music video. But I think it's a great song, one of the best of his solo stuff. Well actually he is just singer there, in Finnish metal drummers project 👍

Im with Wolfman on this one. Husbands or boyfriends dont notice when you have had your hair done. Sometimes its a natural causionary thing to not say anything because everything we say can be used against us by the woman. Tuomas wrote 95% of the songs and Marco the rest us sometimes contributes lyrics. Just rewatched after watching your 10th Man Down. Suesue does make me laugh. SueSue the blond bombshell! It looks beautiful. Almost all the music and lyrics. Marko does add some musical ideas on a few songs. He tends to add some aggressiveness to some of their songs. Tuomas, wrote this one night in a fit of rage, and had to edit it later on to get rid of all the profanity. It's an angry song directed toward the greed of mankind, and their stupidity.
