All I can say is that Nightwish seems to draw together certain type of people from all different sides of life. One can see this also in their concerts. Doesn't matter if you are young or old, hip hopper or rocker, south or north, home mom or business executive, a rockstar or a roadie - Nightwish seems to bring certain thoughts of similarly thinking people together. There is something genuine and human in it all, and I like what I see.

Tuomas, the bands composer (Keyboards), was studying to become a marine biologist but decided to start a metal band after attending a Metallica concert in the states. He takes a lot of inspiration from them. Also: They go even harder than this. I'd say that this song is sort of in the middle between their slow(ish) songs like "Ghost Love Score" or 'Sleeping Sun' and harder ones like "Master Passion Greed', 'Noise', and 'Tribal'. All of which I'm officially requesting reactions to 🤣

Nightwish Army Finland here. Thank you, a very nice reaction! Just Nightwish doing Nightwish things! And as you have surely noticed, although they are all outstanding , none of them standout. Nightwish is their own genre and no other band comes close to the level they are at.

Excellent reaction. You made some good observations. You picked up on the fact that they are a great live band. To continue the heavier side of the band you should definitely react to “Yours Is An Empty Hope” live from Wembley where you will hear Floor growl in the chorus.

Nightwish has long had a dedicated fan base, thanks to Tuomas's compositions and, initially, the unique voices of bass player Marko and Tarja, their first vocalist. Listen to some of her performances and you'll see where the fandom comes from. The 82,000 at Wacken are proof of that: Floor wasn't even with the band when those tickets were snapped up. (The crowd expected to hear from Anette, who'd replaced Tarja.) Floor proceeded to do what Floor does, putting them on top of the symphonic metal world, but that was a small world - "most popular metal band in Finland" only takes you so far. She then appeared on a popular a Dutch TV show, "Beste Zangers", still pretty much unknown to the public at large, and several million viewers simultaneously sat up, asking, "OMG, where did _she_ come from?" KZbin then did what KZbin does, and the 'reactors' took it from there: the number of fans exploded, and continues to rise, one dropped jaw at a time.

Emppu is a fantastic guitar player (all band members are outstanding artists). He only does not show off but always play what the song needs. By the way, in an interview Floor said that she cannot sing a song she does not feel. She is an empath; you can feel this in every song she sings.

I have watched both ReVamp concerts that have been recorded (Graspop 2010 and Bloodstock 2014, may be there are more recorded concerts of them I don't know) and also the After Forever concert Pinkpop 2004. Floor is always fantastic, with her two own bands and also with Nightwish.

Yep ,DAMN! lol. That was a 3 octave glissando Floor did in tandem with Marko, love that part. The studio version only had his 2 octave slide. Song is from the 2004 Once album, original lead singer Tarja Turunen era, same record as GLS. Song # 11 of 15 here at Wacken (GLS was # 13), it's about a romance that has died, time to move on.. Marko sings quite a bit, backing and co-lead in a lot of songs, and lead in a few. He was lead singer in his first band , Tarot, formed when he was 16. Yes, one of their heavier songs. Emppu can really shred, but this is one of the few examples because they all play for what the song needs. Tuomas (keys, primary songwriter and composer) attended Metallica and G'N'R concerts as an exchange student in the US, some of his early heavy music influences. For another heavier one, at this show try "Ghost River". Also "Yours Is an Empty Hope" live from Wembley 2015, and "Weak Fantasy" from Tampere 2015.

Greatest live band out of the ones still active. And it was after this particular concert when I started saying that. They have always been top tier though for as long as I can remember. If you want to step further back in time for a bit, you could try their Phantom of the Opera from End of an Era 2005. 🔥🤘🔥

Nightwish definitely lands on the same playlist as Maiden , Dio, Metallica, because of how hard they go, but I do think the bands they allign more with are the progressive rock bands like Dream Theater, Rush, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Tool, Deep Purple, etc... It's just a better comparison of how they deal with time signatures, key changes, music theory, all those things that make good songs really great.

Nightwish is awesome truly! But if you really want to hear some great guitar playing, you should check out "Holy War" by the group Love Bites. They are not as well known as Nightwish, but thanks to reactors over the past two years or so, their popularity has boomed. Hint: they have two lead guitarists, and one is also a classically trained pianist. As far as Nightwish is concerned, they have a deep and varied list of songs. I' m suggesting "Ghost River," "Empty Hope," for just a couple of heavier performances you should like. Love the headphones by the way!

ha YES you're exactly right, they are one of the best performing bands and I'll never understand why they are not better known, they do it all and you can't go wrong following Gabriel's suggestions, and I agree with one of your other commenters the best hard one (in my opinion) is "Master Passion Greed", the lyrics are a little harsh which tie in to the back story of "The Poet and the Pendulum" but I'd probably leave the Poet one for way later after you get to know the band. And yes as you go you'll appreiciate Empuu and ALL their skill, an if you really want to try something different you might try "Tina S Beethovens moonlight Sonata 3rd movement" little 15 year old guitar wizard! Enjoy your journey.
