1. Happy b-day, Tria! 2. Many have received a higher education in the sciences (I am a physicist, for example), but few have a universal integrative vision. Carl Sagan was certainly one of them. And it seems normal to me that Tuomas wrote a song dedicated to him, because he too has a vision of the universe, visible in everything he composed, ever since "Stargazers". It's a pity that "Sagan", a beautiful song full of optimistic energy, is not better known.

Two tips Eric. Ad astra from Hellfest or Deichbrand. After the words from Carl Sagan, you hear the longest high Note from Floor. Or Shoemaker, for Eugene Shoemaker. At the end again, a very long high note from Floor. Greetings from nothern Germany, and have good, healthy time🤘🤗😊

The song is a little hidden gem sporting in the backside of "Elan" -single. Never played live and no enteriring to the final album. But still l like it a lot. ⛄👍

Hey man.great reaction. love to see you react to the documentary itself. We see flashes here but the whole hog is pretty interesting. And you can really soak in the amazing atmosphere of this unique band vibing together. Tuomas, as you say, loves to gaze at the universe wondering and taking in with awe the mystery and grandeur of it all. Shoemaker has that same feel. The life version of Deichbrand is still to me the best one for this song. Hearing and seeing her sing that high part at the end with her arms outstretched and lighted from behind is just awesome.

Hi Eric Ah, you have formally recognised something I have said for a long time: people put Nightwish in the category of symphonic metal; they do all sorts of other things and I have frequently said they are in the genre called "Nightwish ". There is also, of course, Shoemaker about a scientist and I would say it's the greater song. But on the subject of Carl Sagan, I would say watch the Hellfest performance of Ad Astra - a full spoken quote from Sagan and then a vocal performance from Floor that knocks me off my seat if I don't literally hold on to the arms.

You should watch the various making of doc series. The winter cottage was from the first episode for the Album making of series when the Nightwish team met to plan the album. They had rented the cabin, and they did not have they key. Jukka saved the day. Summer camp scenes were after Tuomas had done the writing alone in another cottage cabin with the occational assist from Marko building demo tracks for the band to build upon. The summer camp was a boy scout camp a couple of the band members used to go to. It has very rustic accommodations and they did not have all the usual techs supporting them. They rented it for the band to develop the 1st album with Floor album sound while enjoying the outdoors.

I love following Tuomas' path. Wherever his muses take him, he always crafts interesting, music; sometimes incredibly complicated, sometimes simple and glorious. I agree that they all care about the process and work together to bring Tuomas' vision come to reality, and he is not opposed to changing things when band members have an idea. They take his base and all add to it to make these wonderful songs.

This is surely the greatest NIGHTWISH song I do not physically own, due to it being relegated to a "B side" - although I adore it! It sounds to me as the "brother" to "Elan", although they do develop differently. But the wonderful, somewhat laid-back drive they have win me over despite what some would call a lack of "heaviness". Thanks for reviving this song for me! P. S.: "Shoemaker" is still their most wondrous song about a scientist (or rather TO the scientist). ;)

Hello sir, this quite unknown song to many people here is yet so beautiful 😊I know Carl Sagan, I have watched his videos many many times. Every time I listen to this Nightwish song I put lyrics on screen (I understand and speak English very well, I have used Eng. since I graduated and been at work since '93) because I want to see every word and letter what Tuomas, our metal Mozart, our Finnish national treasure, has written 😊🤘

Nightwish is the tip of the sword in the world of rock, whatever the subgenre, I mean it is the best rock band in these times. So a tribute to one of the scientists who have changed the world like Carl Sagan is more than deserved and moves feelings of hope. But Nightwish has another gem that you should know and it is the band's tribute to Eugene Shoemaker, another outstanding scientist, who has a story from another world. The song Shoemaker is one of the band's almost obligatory pieces. The level of Floor is surprising. Beautiful tribute.

Nope dude, "Shoemaker" is the greatest song ever recorded about a scientist, but"Sagan" isn't far behind. If you haven't heard "Shoemaker" yet, you're in for a treat. It's probably the most complex vocals that Tuomas has ever written, so much so that he thought it would never be performed live. They did. Hi Eric, as always a great reaction! As you like those behind the scenes clips I have a question for you: Is it an idea to live stream a couple of documentaries of NW on Saturdays? I think a lot of would like that very much. Most of the clips in this song are from "Making of a New Album" (the 8th, Endless Forms Most Beautiful) but also from "Please learn the setlist in 48 hrs". YT-er Nimwey did a marvellous job of putting together the 21 episodes Making of the Album, 2 hrs 19 min. And Please learn the setlist is about that long as well. It would be fun to watch it together! P.S.: Jukka wasn't late with the key. Somebody had forgotten to bring the key so Jukka had to fetch another on haha. Have a nice weekend!

Ha ha, possibly the best song about a scientist...until _Shoemaker,_ which made it onto the next album. Yeah, Tuomas is about the only composer to tackle a lot of his subject matter, and to use words like tiktaalik and phrases like "sedulous mice", both of which I had to look up! Music and education in one. And belated happy birthday Tria!

One point about Nightwish, amateur musicians must join them. Musicians who look for fame and unlimited creativity are not needed. Only seasoned professional musicians that can work within their instruments can. The problem with Tarja and Marko was the 2 wants unlimited expression of their creativity which wont work because Nightwish was, is and always will be one of Tuomas' projects. Tarja wanted fame for herself to be upfront and center. She needed her space and went solo. She couldn't change Nightwish coz it was never her to begin with and Tuomas owns Nightwish. Marko did went solo, but immediately realized how frustrating it was working solo. He didn't appreciate the complexity involved, which was why Tuomas built Nightwish Inc. Annette was nothing but business decision. What do you do with an employee who thought she had the power to make decisions for a company ahe worked for?
