I'm glad you got to "Song Of Myself", the favorite Nightwish song of the late Ann Waychoff, an elderly lady from Pennsylvania who dedicated the last years of her life to promoting the music of Nightwish, the band she loved. She welcomes the new reactors with a short history of the band (which I took over on her behalf, when Ann was hospitalized). She often recommends this song for a future reaction, along with some words of encouragement. With her tact and diplomacy, Ann left an indelible memory for many of us, being a bridge of communication between the various groups of fans who often came into conflict. Returning to the reaction: you noticed well, several of their songs were mentioned: "A catnap in the ghost town of my heart / She dreams of storytime and the river ghosts / Of mermaids, of Whitman's and the ride / Raving harlequins, gigantic toys" = Storytime, Ghost River and Turn Loose The Mermaids, respectively "What is left for encore / Is the same old dead boy's song / Sung in silence" = Dead Boy's Poem. Your comment at 8:39, when you listened to Emppu's guitar note twice with your eyes closed, made me smile. If you had opened your eyes, you would have seen Emppu thirstily sipping a beer held with one hand, while holding the note with the other :)))))))) - that's how high their professionalism is in mastering their instruments . For me personally, this song describes a state of depression observed / lived hyperconsciously: "All that great heart lying still / In silent suffering / Smiling like a clown until the show has come to an end" and "All that great heart lying still and slowly dying / All that great heart lying still on an angelwing". The state of hyperconscious contemplation of reality, the mark of genius. As homework :) I recommend you also listen to the studio version of this song, recorded with Anette Olzon, which also contains a poem called "Love" at the end performed by the band members and their families. You won't regret it, I promise. For you there is no (anymore) mandatory order of the songs, Red, because you already understand that all their songs are important.

Dead Boy's Poem from their Buenos Aires concert is quite brilliant and showcases an entirely different side to the band, particularly Floor's singing. It is the suicide letter Tuomas might have written as a child, and the entire band treats it with huge respect. It is an absolute must-see.

This song is for You Ann (mother of Nightwish Army) R.I.P 🤘😔🤘 Your flame and passion lives on in Us 🤘🔥🤘. Ann Waychoff was known by many as the Nightwish Mom. She would give comments to people who reacted to Nightwish videos to try and help the reactors understand and she would tirelessly exchange comments with people who wanted to know more. She also communicated privately with a large number of fans and reactors (we know now from the tributes.). kzbin.info?search_query=ann+waychoff will show how many knew her and how many liked her enough to spend hours making videos about her/dedicated to her. For me this song has some serious Pantera vibes 🤘🔥🤘. Pure fire and great song!!! NWSU/FloorFan.

You'll hear "Dead Boy" a lot in Tuomas'lyrics when he's refrencing himself even in a roundabout way. The song it comes from first is Dead Boy's Poem, which is Tuomas writing about how he would want to be eulogized. Floor does an amazing rendition of it in Buenos Aires, 2018. Bring your tissues.
The Poet and the Pendulum is at another level. That's all I'll say at rhe moment. If you liked Song of Myself, and its mystic intensity and emotional transitions, you'll need some spare tissues for TPATP.

R.I.P Ann Waychoff mother of the Nightwish Army. June 28th, 2020 This is your song. If you ever have to explain the Groove in Metal to someone - play this tune. Until the Breakdown hits you with a 10 ton hammer it is all fun and games. But then the slow chugging monster with the machine gun riffing takes over. And for every Metal Head this lights up the day. Awesome….Imho one of the best songs ever. Sometimes the sky is piano black…. you don't need to listen to songs in any particular order, if one pricks your interest go for it. The idea of the list was just to collect recordings that were of a decent quality particularly as the original hd versions that were available on youtube were from a bad bluray master that altered the speed, and Gabriel grew it as other concerts became available. Ann was a good youtube friend and it was a sad day when she decided to move back into the Endlessness that awaits us all.

@martchristy99818 ай бұрын
Music, as a whole contains and describes so many textures in so many different ways, that's the beauty of MUSIC as an artform. To me it transcends many people's perceptions, while placing itself in an indescribable position. That, for me is a statement of beauty which, in itself, is insurmountable by human understanding! Tuomas purposefully puts easter eggs in many of his songs, meaning he will mention things like Deadboy, which is one of the things he refers to himself as. He also refers to himself as Ocean Soul, the Poet, the songwriter. He also makes references in some songs to other songs. Every Nightwish song is a new story or journey.

0:30 Yes indeed, the richness & layering of their compositions plus NW's impressive stage shows, squared with Floor's gargantuan stage presence may provide a challenge for the analytically inclined & even threaten to tear the different parts of your brain asunder! Great catch btw, with that soaring Emppu note there (while he's taking a sip!). So you desperately need some "corpus callosum work-out", to re-integrate all of the sensory input ;) I suggest you take extensive drum clinics with Kai Hahto, who I can tell by his style of drumming is an ambidexter (a orig. lefty with a huuuuge corpus callosum). Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘 EDIT: oh and I love that shirt (reminds me of the Ayreon concert).

It is A Tribute to the poem in 52 chapters, One for every week of the year, " Song of myself " by Walt Whitman 1819-1892.(one of the co-founders of US poetry). The 7th line of the song is ""Of mermaids, of Whitman's and the Ride""". The extended official studio version of this song has, at the end, a poem as a tribute to Whitman made by Tuomas, the keyboard player and the mastermind of nightwish. These lines you can also see fast flahing on the ledscreen of the video you just saw. Bucle up, it goes very deep. " I see a slow, simple youngster by a busy street With a begging bowl in his shaking hand Trying to smile but hurting infinitely Nobody notices I do, but walk by An old man gets naked and kisses a model-doll in his attic It's half-light and he's in tears When he finally comes his eyes are cascading I see a beaten dog in a pungent alley He tries to bite me All pride has left his wild drooling eyes I wish I had my leg to spare A mother visits her son, Smiles to him through the bars She's never loved him more An obese girl enters an elevator with me All dressed up fancy A green butterfly on her neck Terribly sweet perfume deafens me She's going to dinner alone That makes her even more beautiful I see a model's face on a brick wall A statue of porcelain perfection beside a violent city kill A city that worships flesh The first thing I ever heard Was a wandering man telling his story It was you, the grass under my bare feet The campfire in the dead of the night The heavenly black of sky and sea It was us Roaming the rainy roads Combing the gilded beaches Waking up to a new gallery of wonders every morn Bathing in places no-one's seen before Shipwrecked on some matt-painted island Clad in nothing but the surf Beauty's finest robe Beyond all mortality we are Swinging in the breath of nature In early air of the dawn of life A sight to silence the heavens I want to travel where life travels Following its permanent lead Where the air tastes like snow music Where grass smells like fresh-born Eden I would pass no man, no stranger, no tragedy or rapture I would bathe in a world of sensation Love, Goodness, and Simplicity (While violated and imprisoned by technology) The thought of my family's graves was the only moment I used to experience true love That love remains infinite As I'll never be the man my father is How can you "just be yourself" When you don't know who you are? Stop saying "I know how you feel" How could anyone know how another feels? Who am I to judge a priest, beggar, whore, politician, wrongdoer? I am, you are, all of them already Dear child, stop working, go play Forget every rule There's no fear in a dream "Is there a village inside this snowflake?" A child asked me "What's the color of our lullaby?" I've never been so close to truth as then I touched its silver lining Death is the winner in any war Nothing noble in dying for your religion For your country For ideology, for faith For another man, yes Paper is dead without words Ink idle without a poem All the world dead without stories Without love and disarming beauty Careless realism costs souls Ever seen the Lord smile? All the care for the world made Beautiful a sad man? Why do we still carry a device of torture around our necks? Oh, how rotten your pre-apocalypse is All you bible-black fools living over nightmare ground I see all those empty cradles and wonder If man will ever change I, too, wish to be a decent manboy But all I am Is smoke and mirrors Still given everything, may I be deservin And there forever remains That change from G to E minor. "

“ Dead Boy’s Poem” (2018 Buenos Aires) is without a doubt the best song to continue your journey with. And yes, there are more songs recommended within the lyrics, like: “Ghost River” (WOA festival 2013). Although only 3 parts are performed live, the original Song of Myself is consisting 4 parts. Part IV is more than a poet, but less suitable for live performances. The observant viewer has probably noticed that the lyrics of that special Part IV could be read on the video screen behind the band during their performance.

Hi Red No 2 in my favourites list. Marco is superb - I love his second entry (the rising gliss) so much I extracted it and have it as my ringtone. Favourite parts: Piano Black , and particularly the best description of depression I've heard - "sometimes the within is piano black". Piano black - that deep glossy black that almost evades the eye. Emppu holding that long note one-handed as he drinks a Corona. The unexpected pauses (rests) towards the end, particularly, in this performance, when Floor turns her hands upwards and the flames seem to come from her palms. Great chuggy rhythms in the breakdown. Little pizzicato string sections in the run-up to that ending. At the end the lead vocals use the same lyrics as the choir are singing in the earlier parts - "All that great heart lying still and slowly dying All that great heart lying still on an angelwing". That lyric is perfect for the staccato rhythm. ...and lots more There is no "order". Gabriel's list is a guidewith some info on style, not a prescribedjourney. Do them in any order, add many that are missing g, whatever you like. Jukka is a showman!

This Tuomas' Nightwish song has been so heart healing for me. These lyrics, melody, Jukka's drumming and his style, of course Floor, and Marko's singing. That Emppu's guitar I love that. Edit: I love Jukka's drumming and I always remember mention him. He played drums until 2015 he had to stop music and tours because of bad imsomnia. He's still at Nightwish business. The current Nightwish drummer is Kai Hahto, very professional and so good drummer. But I miss Jukka. Tuomas said in one interview that a one person asked him don't you write songs that heal heart. Well he has done that.

Nightwish is making art. There will be songs which lyrics or music make you feel a bit un easy, until you respect it as art. Like any art, Tuomas has been creating these songs to make you think of the meaning. Tuomas very rarely give any explanations, what the particular song’s story actually is, or why he wrote it, but there is always a meaning, or bigger picture why that song was made. It is our own choise of our mind, what we are discovering from these songs 🙂
