You seem to enjoying and that's the most important thing. I recommend you to check next 'I Want My Tears Back' (Buenos Aires live). It introduces the band's sixth member, Troy Donockley. Great multi-instrumentalist from UK. He's not in every song, but when he is, he always brings really cool nuances to the songs.

The genius of the compositions are glorious - how he pauses, builds tension and then releases it does something to ones soul. Every song is different, and each song affects you emotionally, whether you think you have them or not. Watching a Nightwish performance is a masterclass on music, composition and delivery.

I never heard of this band until 2019. Until then I thought that the era of good music was over, I thought that major record labels just cynically pushed easily marketable, low cost, low quality crap onto listeners to maximise their bottom line. Nightwish blew me away. I was so wrong about good music, as I found out when I started my dive into the vast and interconnected world of European Symphonic Metal. Storytime is a song that I found early, and still makes me scream for joy. Have fun on your journey!

I think most labels would prefer us to listen to the spoon fed crap that they churn out. Luckily some talents are indomitable and they will find a way to get their stuff out there - unfortunately it takes some tracking down on our parts but is worth it if you discover Nightwish, Epica, Sabaton, Blind Guardian etc.

Regarding record companies, a good story about Nightwish from 2004 came to mind, when their record deal had ended and they were negotiating a new contract with different companies. Have to find it for you... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "The big labels were quick to promise the moon and the stars, but something about them just wasn't right", Tuomas said. "For instance, they wanted to make a four-album deal, which in our case would mean a contract of about ten years - and in ten years, the whole group could be ground to pieces both physically and mentally many times over. Besides, for a big company, even a half a million sold copies can mean that an album has flopped. That's why we signed to Nuclear Blast in Germany - it's better to be one of their top priorities instead of being a small band in a multinational's roster, filed under 'maybe later'. Surprisingly enough, Sony, for example, was very much in the game, although they hadn't shown any interest whatsoever earlier. I bet the success of Evanescence was the reason for their sudden enthusiasm." Known for their modern brand of Gothic Metal and prominent female vocalist, Evanescence had sold huge amounts all over the world, especially in the United States, and consequently, record companies began a frantic search for their very own Evanescence. Yet the big companies lost their chance with Nightwish once and for all when they revealed their willigness to tamper with the band's music. "The last straw was when we sent out a few demo songs to map out the interest", Tuomas recalls. "It wasn't long until we received incredibly detailed questions about how the C-part of the song will be changed, and as to what direction the lyrics will be going. They wanted to know things like these in advance before even thinking about signing us. It felt like we had just made a raw demo that was supposed to be gradually polished, but the songs we'd sent out were final versions! You start thinking about how the cooperation will turn out in the end if they're already playing hard ball at this stage." Even though the game involved international heavyweight players, the deal for the European release of 'Once' was finally signed with the German independent Nuclear Blast, a label that has specialized almost exclusively in Metal music for than a decade (at that time).

@@ValtteL Nice info. Iremember what the big labels did to metal during the mid to late 1980's . A lot of decent "Hair Metal" bands started churning out albums every 12-18 months and making embarrassing videos for MTV and every album had to have the obligatory power ballad for the potential mainstream hit. It's good to see that Tuomas was wise to this and avoided becoming part of the latest fad during the 2000's.

People are rightfully suggesting to do "Greatest show on earth" next but i personally think you should get a few more songs under your belt, before you listen to that masterpiece composition. The reason i say you do best to wait a little longer, is because it is such a big song, such a powerful message, that i feel, you need to be prepared and know the band's musical messaging a little better (it will make it even more impactful is what i'm saying)... also, when you do, pick the one with Richard Dawkins even though the other option is more playful, Dawkins' impact is massive. Now, what songs you listen to first is up to you, heck.. if your next song is "The greatest show on earth", it would be a perfect "next song" as well because it's such a good song. But i personally hope you will wait a couple of songs before getting to that one, so.. i hope to see "Romanticide" and "Noise" soon. Oh and another song you really want to postpone is "Poet and the pendulum" that too is an amazing song but it is very very dark as it is one of (if not the) his most personal stories Tuomas has created for Nightwish. Love your reactions, you seem the type of person who Nightwish was created for, Nightwish is empathy, Nightwish is a feeling, not only togetherness but also actual... you feel their music in your soul, it touches the inner core of one self. And with Floor the band has struck gold, she is their Freddie Mercury, she is the showman, or in her case the show-woman with the magnetic charisma, crowd control and abilities that only people like her and Freddie are blessed with. (ps, showing my age here, i've seen pretty much all of the big name bands live, from the Stones, to Queen, Nightwish to Iron Maiden, Deep Purple to Prince and anything in between, in that list Freddie was the king of the stage, everyone else was magical in their own right, but Freddie was magnetic, and so is Floor, she is the only one i rank as an equal to Freddie, and yes.. this is my very personal opinion because everyone has his or her own list of people they admire ;) )

Well put. Though I liken Anette to a Heintzmann, a famous late 19th early 20th century player piano brand famous for incredibly light touch and snap back, capable of playing faster than a concert grand. On Storytime especially Anette has this ultra crisp enunciation, better even than Floor's. But Meadows of Heaven ending proves she can wail too.

Haha nice. The whole Wacken concert is nuts. Only 13 left. 😊 it was the beginning of the era with Floor and it will blow your mind discovering what is coming. They already did a show at Hellfest 2022 Festival. Recorded. And unbelievable. Same Energy like 2013. And you haven't seen Wembley, Tampere or Buenos Aires, yet. 😂 There has been also the Tarja era until 2005. Same insanity. Check out "Phantom of the Opera" End of an era live. Brutal. 🤩 And if you need some other deep rabbit holes... Epica, Ayreon, Star One, Within Temptation, Sabaton or Rammstein. So much left. Maybe a good one to start with is EPICA "Skeleton Key" or "Unchain Utopia" from the Omega Alive. Be careful. You know now the goddess and valkyrie of Metal music Floor Jansen. You will know then the siren of Metal Simone Simons from Epica. ENJOY!!!

Glad you're continuing with Nightwish! Nightwish can take you to the highest hills of joy and happiness or to the deepest valley of sadness. Tuomas transports you to different places with his music. And every song is a different story! The story can be fiction, fantasy or from the real world and sometimes even an educational story. Those related to real life are often also the sad stories. Nightwish has made 9 albums and one movie soundtrack album (and they've also made one movie!), and each song is its own kind, its own story. In the summer of 2023, they will start making their 10th album.

Hi, just found your channel and have enjoyed the few reactions I've watched so far! If you like metal with soaring female vocals over it like Nightwish has but don't mind checking out something a little more experimental, I'd highly recommend some Babymetal. They're very different from Nightwish with the exception of the similarity I just mentioned, but every bit as good in their own way imo. My suggestion for your first stop if you want to get into them is Headbanger live at their Legend 1997 show. Their live stuff is almost always better than their studio recordings and their MVs, which I guess is another way they're similar to Nightwish now that I think about it. Anyway, hope you enjoy! :)

Nightwish at Wacken 2013 is an absolutely epic set and every song in the set is amazing. Every song. It starts out with incredible energy with "Dark Chest of Wonders" and maintains the energy level for the entire 90 minute show right through to the closer "Last Ride of the Day". Floor Jansen's incredible voice, command of the huge crowd and stage charisma, combined with the incredible musicianship of the entire band and the epic songs written by keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen make Nightwish a unique experience. The entire Nightwish Wacken 2013 concert is available on KZbin and if you just went through that one concert you would (a) be completely blown away from start to finish and (b) have months worth of excellent content that would draw the Nightwish Army to your channel like an invading hoard. They have more than 100 original songs, then you have a bunch of covers and side projects and they'll probably be releasing new stuff for you to add to the end of the list by the time you get there. Naturally not all of them are exactly prime reaction material, but a sizable portion of it is. Lets see how long you can keep up the "1 per week" pace before you cave in and do a little spurt week or two. Don't worry, their discography can handle several of those and you'll still have a very long list of songs to pick from... Since you seem to be willing to experience the band then no more suggestions are really needed, following Gabriel's list is more than fine. You can decide for yourself if you want to focus on this particular concert or branch out, countless reaction channels have tried both ways and it all tends to work out in the end. So feel free to just follow your intuition on picking the songs. There are two details regarding reaction song choices that you might want to be aware of. First is that Tarja Turunen was the founding lead vocalist for Nightwish and she was a member from 1996 to 2005. Floor joined the band in late 2012, so there's a bit of a generational gap there. The newer fans didn't listen to Tarja very much and they tend to become a bit upset when reaction channels do reactions on songs where Tarja is the lead vocalist. The main exception to this is their cover of Phantom of the Opera from the Helsinki 2005 concert, that's generally accepted by most of the fan base. The second point is that people get very defensive over which version of The Greatest Show on Earth should be reacted to. Many people will be adamant on only reacting to the Tampere 2015 version, though I'm fine with both that and the Wembley 2015 versions. The Tampere version was a bit unique so it's worth checking out regardless. The Wembley version is closer to how they usually played it during the 2015 word tour. If you do react to the Wembley GTSOE you'll have a bunch of comments saying that you chose the wrong veresion. Other than that, there's nothing too critical to keep in mind regarding song choices. Many channels chose to hold their reactions to Poet and the Pendulum & The Greatest Show on Earth until a little later, both of them are positively gigantic songs (longer than Ghost Love Score) so it does make sense to get to know the band and their music a bit better before tackling them.

Lovely reaction. 🙂 Floor is an enchantress, and I am wholly and completely under her spell. The whole band is incredible .... they make me grin like a maniac one minute, then bring tears to my eyes the next. Tuomas is a genius of epic proportions, and in Floor (along with the rest of the band) he has the perfect tool to manifest his vision and present something truly extraordinary. I too only discovered Nightwish a short time ago, but they have quickly become one of my all-time favourite bands, and I listen to them daily. Keep up the Nightwish reactions, and I for one, as a new subscriber, will enjoy watching your journey of discovery. As much as I selfishly want you to react to my personal favourites immediately, I won't ask for any particular song .... at the end of the day, you can't go wrong following Gabriel's list. All the very best from the Australian Division of the Nightwish Army.

My favorite song! Usually. Sometimes it's another Nightwish song, when I am listening to that one, but usually it is this one, lol, and this is far and away the best performance of it. It gets better though, because there's so many other fantastic songs by them! Try Everdream next!

The beauty of Nightwish is that no song sounds like the other. I have loved this band since I was a child and still listen to their songs every day and attend their concerts as often as possible.I have never been bored with their music, although I could sing every song in my sleep and know the smallest detail of every video. At Nightwish, the addictive factor is at its absolute high.I wish you from the bottom of my heart that you will feel the same way.🤗

Yeaah! If ghost love score is like epic orchestral soundtrack, storytime is one of the most positive of their songs! I love the fairytale lyric of this song! Will be glad to see the next time your react to "Ever dream" or "Romanticide" with great addition Marko's voice and Emppu guitar solos!)

“Makes me feel”. That is what great music is all about. Next, either check out their metal side, with Romanticide, or “start out a little bit softer, with Ever Dream.” From Wacken, as well. Enjoy!
