Nightwish posted a short today, of Tuomas talking about this song's meaning. He said that the song is about fear mongering and controlling people with fear. He also talks about 'how many times have we been told that the world will end, y2k, the end of the Mayan calendar, etc, but we are still here'. 3rd single will be "Lanternlight", music video scheduled to release with the album on Sep 20.

Another great reaction! Like the song itself the video needs several watches to unpack everything. In another reaction the reactor mentioned that the beginning reminds them of the scene in Clockwork Orange where Malcom McDowell character is forced to watch violence over and over. The blue lighting is also reminiscent of that scene from the movie. I think here the director is using a similar direction to illustrate how we are all forced to watch "never ending doom porn" to create fear and misery in culture. I think everyone is sucked into the maelstrom of fear but the video is non-linear timewise so what you see is video cuts back and forth between the eye drops/watching the apocalypses by the band and them spinning through space. One of my favorite parts that I only recently picked up on in the video is in the scene with the Mayan's on their knee's before a solar eclipse which happens at the start of the second chorus. The adults are on their knee's, fearing the end of time as predicted by the Mayan calender, while a child is protectively hunched over a recently planted seedling representing hope for a better future. Also the red rose at the end being held by a child is also a symbol of hope as well. Regarding the negative comments of some fans, that is not something new. There was similar commentary about Human Nature when it came out. In fact in the instrumental breakdown I hear a lot of Music and Harvest in the composition. I think that some old Nighwish fans might not like the evolution of the band. People become fans of a band for a reason and then want more of the same that first drew them to the band. I am a relatively new fan, having discovered them shortly before Human Nature came out, and I love Nightwish's newer material. I love how the band has grown and matured as musicians and storytellers. Human Nature is my favorite album, not only because of the music but the message as well.

The putting drops into eyes is referring to some doomsday virus, one of the 101 stories about the end of the world. Tuomas did some good research on that, from horsemen to Y2K. The children choir (in the end with Floor) express hope.

Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that gets better & better with each listen, which is something that defines greatness in songwriting. The composer, Tuomas Holopainen, has said that this song is his take against all the fear mongering that plaugues main stream media these days. It's a form of mind control to keep the masses of ordinary people in line with official narratives of the ruling class.

Nice reaction. I really like this song and the video. It’s one of those songs that keeps getting better with each listen. It reminds me of Harvest from the previous album. You should also check out the Noise Music Video, it has a similar feel with the Day of. Nightwish always gives you food for thought.

When you said that some NW fans says they don't like the new stuff, will not buy the album... I'm pretty sure they're not fans at all.... NW have been so versatile through decades, what changed now? They do what they always do, tapping new areas, revives old ones and going on their own way. I think the new album will be awesome, I love both singles. There have been only one single which took time to... grow in to and now it's in my top 20 NW songs (Elán) Anyhow, everybody have their own opinions and that's alright 🤘😁

Most of the time you just see one or two tumbling, but there is a shot of all of all of them at once. They all got sucked in. Its a bit confusing as it alternates between them tumbling and standing and staring. I think maybe the tumbling bit isnt meant to be literal. They're physically still in the room with the screen. I think the tumbling bit is in their head, possibly a result of the eye drops. Thats why they have such a shocked expression. Either that or the standing bits are just backflashes, so you're witnessindg them in two time-frames; flying and before flying.

Eye drop part is probably a reference to movies, where somebody is forced to watch something for a long time and they are not allowed to even blink. One example is an old classic called Clockwork Orange. One interesting point I noticed, was that this Mayan or Aztec wears very non typical shoes for any ancient tribe. I was wondering, does it mean that kind of old fears which we have solved with science and better understanding, are now brought back because everything can be questioned now. Even facts. I absolutely love this single rose among the fists rised up 🙂

This is the second single of the new upcoming album Yesterwynde, which will be released 20th of september. Tuomas announced that this single will have a typical 80ies vibe which it definitely has. I hear influences clearly by Pink Floyds The Wall and Queens Night at the opera. In the chorus right after the instrumental part - which is a great remark on typical Nightwish power - and Choir I hear Agneta from ABBA in Floors voice. Story has elements of George Orwells 1984 and the video also is directing this way. Over all you need to hear it several times - like mostly in Nightwish songs - to get the full enjoyment with it. A bit of a new way to go for Nightwish, with the children choir being this much present,, Floor is doing some fast phrasing here to, something like she does in the song Shoemaker, kind off i think. This song is about leaders, who spread fear in people, religious, political all kind of leaders, they tell that if you dont do it like this, the end is near, and it all bad, but its a lie, the due date have passed many times in history already for these doomsday predictions, so life your life, dont let yourself fill up with fear.. Notice that Floor joins the kids choir at end and connect that to her charecter she is in video, she realize something during video, Toumas said so in a interview i watched.. I didnt read the book 1984 written by George Orwell, but the song got reference to that book i belive. At first listen i needed another listen, at 3th listen the song got me, and i started like the children choir, i actually think its a pretty good song, and something not heard like this from NW before, now i listened to the song many times! This is not a Empuu shine song, there is heavy guitar rhytm in the middle section and end, but not the big Empuu solo, but i also think this song dosent need it, because the Children choir takes spotlight instead,.. The title the day off.. is missing telling what its the day off, so i think this is where you can put in the optimistic view of the song, as a listener, if you like to, and hear the song that way, the listener decide what its the day off. The original idea was this one to be 1st single, because it was a diffrent sound from NW people told Tuomas, this have to be a single, but then Tuomas decided it should be Perfume of the timelees, and this 2nd. I belive a 3th single will be out before album release, being last track on upcoming album, called Lanternlight.

Ater listening a few times, nog i need to read the lyrics, it a kind of las call of action. We are pasing due time every time and it bcaomes worse every time. Every word in this lyrics means something special. It a prelude to procession. Some of the word which are a clear to me: "We are too many for our mother" (to many people for the mothe earth to feed) "We are the ill" ""Fear the words, the feed, feed the human beast Hide the unshot guns, the end is fear" ; "Mind virus, fear of the well-known" I take time do discover all of it, but be sure there is a true message in it. What can we do today (or beter have to do) to avoid this ending for our children (perhaps also the reason for the children choir)

They are given eye drops so that their eyes stay open without having to blink too much, or so that their eyes won't get tired. They are forced to watch all the doomsday prophecies and get sucked in (physically they stay in the room but feel like they are sucked into the happenings).

The mix still isn't fantastic. It sounds a little better in Spotify, but it's still a little off when compared to even Human Nature. Both tracks so far have kind of a muted feel to them, like Endlessness did (to my ears anyways).
