There are a lot of us Ronald, in our 50s, 60s (me), 70s and 80s who are huge fans of this band. We've been around long enough to see some excellent bands and hear some extraordinary music. I won't rank my top 5 because some of them were the background music for unique periods in time but Nightwish is certainly there and objectively the most talented group of musicians from Toumas on down. And unique.

Overwhelming thoughts and emotions are a very normal reaction to Nightwish and their music. Every time we see a new person discovering them we get a little part of that as wel despite having seen and experienced their songs hundreds or more times. Yes you heard a riff from Enter Sandman. There's a section in this song where they take the melodies from 4 different songs from 4 different eras going all the way back to classical music to represent the evolution of music. The riff from Enter Sandman represents modern music. It was funny to me when earlier in the you said you were getting Metallica vibes. I was thinking "just wait".

"Enter history, the grand finale" ... "Enter ratkind" ... and at last Enter Sandman is played. I'm not sure if the one played with a harpischord is Petzold's Minuet in G major?

Tuomas with Nightwish thinks deeply about many things about us and our world. You will find elements of fantasy in the older songs and more mythology, history, science, and philosophy in recent albums with Floor. Each song explores some aspect of life, with poetry and storytelling. I look forward to your journey through their music. btw, I can understand your fascination with Floor. Just watch her hands, eyes and expressions as she performs. Fyi, Floor has a YT channel, where you will find her older band music videos, more recent solo music, interviews she has done, some personal Storytime stories, and funny short fan friday Q&A videos. You will see why she is the real HSP empathetic and strong woman we all admire and love to see and hear sing.

For Tuomas's keyboards to be at an angle is most likely because it produces less strain on his wrists while playing, plus there is the additional benefit that the audience can see his hands/fingers while playing the keys.

The title of the issue is taken from a 2009 book by evolutionary biologist and atheist writer Richard Dawkins, about the evidence for biological evolution. Dawkins also contributes to the album. Holopainen explained to HMV in March 2015: "I wrote him a letter a little over a year ago and explained what ideas we had for this album, mainly about evolution. Since one of the songs goes straight to one of his books, it felt like a perfect match to try and recite him on the album. A few weeks later, he sent me an email accepting the invitation." "Later in 2014, we recorded his parts at Hats Off Studios, Oxford. This is a huge honour for us, as Dawkins is one of our greatest heroes and his writings have been a huge inspiration for the album."

This was the last song on the first record Floor recorded with them. They have 2 others with her and the last just released this September. All 3 of these records "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" (this one) "Human Nature" and the new one that just came out "Yesterwynde" is considered a Trilogy and they all touch on this very story about us how we have come to be here, and how we act and live (both good and bag_ and how awful lucky we are here in this exact location at this exact time. I recommend listening to "Perfume of the Timeless" music video. The opening text says it all.

And Momma - don't feel lost - feel at home with us - more people think deeper and darker things than you might imagine - Nightwish will at times provoke and at times comfort - but will always challenge the insipid lyric, the pedestrian tune, the accepted flow of a song. I have never yet heard a Nightwish song that didn't make me cry......

Fun you mention Loreena McKennitt she is one of my absolut favorit artists ever. I saw her live at the wonderful palace of the Alhambra in sep. 2006. Troy is playing a type of bagpipe Uilleannpipe. Marco (Bass Guitar player singing male lead) has left the band for medical reasons. Troy (whistles, pipes, special instruments) also sings and was singing here as a sort of background. He sings more prominently on the new album (released, but NW isn't touring yet to rest and give Floor mommy time with Lucy who was born less than a year ago). You might want to watch the live performance of "Tribal" Which is three concerts - in one you can see Floor very pregnant.

🖤FLOOR JANSEN 💪Valkyrie Queen🖤 🥇Most versatile singer. 🥇Best theatrical storyteller. 🥇Beautiful personal appearance on stage. 🥇Has the most contact with the crowd. 🥇 Really knows how to entertain the crowd. 🥇 Frontwoman with most years active with Nightwish. 🥇 More reliable than...🥈Tarja (fired) 🥉Anette (quits in the middle of tour). 🥇 Old Nightwish songs were adapted by putting more thought and creativity into them, making them even more magical, and Floor made these old songs her own.

Two points 1) The instrument that Troy is playing near the start is the Uillean pipes (a form of Irish bagpipes) and 2) You did indeed hear Metallica in there - if you listen to the lyrics that Floor sings before and after the riff it will make sense. Man, he took his time in the sun, had a dream to understand a single grain of sand. Or, in other words, Enter Sandman. Tuomas is such a clever composer.

Tuomas and Floor both wanted to be biologists when they were younger! Give them an honorary for this! Genius! Tuomas had to shorten this to make it physically possible for the band to be able play it live! Life, the Universe and Everything in about 20 minutes!! (someone, possibly jokingly, said that original piece was 42 minutes long! - maybe an intentional "Hitch-hikers Guide to the Universe" (by Douglas Adams) reference!) The angled keyboards make it ergonomically sound when performing a, usually, 2+ hour show! Tuomas does write and then go to the UK to co-conduct and produce the backing track(s) with Pip Williams, the orchestra and choirs! Tuomas was inspired by seeing a Metallica concert in the US before Nightwish appeared! Kai's drumming is so inhumanly precise!.. and he had to buy more toms for their track "Tribal"! Floor and Marko sang "enter...." but Emppu does not sing - so of course he played the riff from "Enter Sandman"! Love this band/family/group! Keep Up The Good Work!

I'll echo what others have said, I'm kinda envious of you, that get to experience this for the first time. If I could select what memories to erase, I would erase things like this, just to have that 'first experience' of Nightwish's music. Fun fact though, you have but scratched the very surface, OF the surface when it comes to Nighwish :) Looking forward to more of this. It's rare that reactors go for this song this early on in their 'Nightwish Journey' but there's really no proper order to go by, except for maybe the song "Poet and the pendulum" which really shouldn't be listened/experienced to until you got much more Nightwish in you. Also glad that you picked this version and not the Wembley one. As I personally prefer this one. But man, am I excited to see and learn your reaction and thoughts to certain other songs that is on the 'list'. Won't even say which ones or why, the less you know the better :) My personal preference if it matters is that once you get around to the song "I want my tears back"(dont think you've reacted to that one yet) go for the Buenos Aires(Argentina) version, despite there being a Wacken version too - The Argentina one is simply more...well let's say fun.(dont wanna spoil anything). But overall, there's no 'wrong' version. Other than Live versions are usually more fun than 'studio' versions, especially when it comes to Nightwish. Nightwish Army is happy to have you onboard, you give the music it's proper respect and interest. Bonus point to you for picking up the Metallica riff in this song ;) Stay safe, Stay Awesome, and happy holidays you lovely human.

Marko, bass, who is singing with her (including Troy, pipes, flute) is a legend in metal scene in Europe. Half of continent asked him to sing a song or two for their albums and he made everything better. To hear him properly, try Siren or Phantom of the Opera with their original singer, from End of and Era concert in 2005.

When listening to this song for the first time it would be good to have subtitles. There are a lot of scientific terms in it (e.g. Goldilock's Zone, LUCA, Lucy of the Afar etc.). And Floor is gorgeous as always. Me - like so many other people, male and female - really admire her, her fantastic vocal abilities, her stage presence and connection with the audience, her great personality. And her voice harmonizes so well with the voice of Marko who also is a great singer. But you are right: Floor's magnetism is outstanding; you cannot stop watching her. By the way, Troy is playing the Uillean Pipes, the Irish bagpipe, and the spoken words in the background are from the well-known evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins ("The greatest show on Earth" is the title of one of his books), spoken by himself. And yes, the short "history of music" ended with "Enter sandman".

What a beautiful reaction! I loved hearing your impressions. I can personally identify with every single one of the thoughts you expressed. There are not many "heavy metal" bands (like about zero, other than NW!) whose lyrical poetry can send the listener off in search of a science dictionary to look up the meanings of certain terms! As you surely understood, the "greatest show on Earth" is the development and evolution of life on Earth. It begins with the accretion of the planet in the bombardment phase of the solar system (i.e., the fireworks at the beginning). And then it covers the next 4.6 billion years all wrapped up in one epic masterpiece. The middle interlude where the song changes with the red smoldering embers on the screen and the sound of cavemen grunting represents the period where an asteroid allegedly struck the Earth, setting everything ablaze, killed the dinosaurs thereby paving the way for the entry of the mammals on the stage of that "greatest show." The part where you correctly noticed a riff from "Enter Sandman" is the portion where the history and evolution of music is covered. Note the harpsichord you heard a bit before that representing the classic music period. For the modern era of rock and metal, Tuomas threw in that nod to Metallica, they being one of his strong, early influences. About the tilted keyboards: It's just simple ergonomics / human factors engineering / carpal tunnel syndrome and all that. You do that repetitive keyboard motion every day for your job, and that tilt angle saves your wrists from neurological harm. About the Viking bassist having a great voice... Marco... there is another artist whose talents you've not even begun to scratch the surface of! He does metal growls in a few of the heavier songs but, surprisingly or not, he also is capable of beautiful, clean opera tenor. Appropriate for Christmas, check out this awesome performance of Ave Maria done in duet with Floor at a Christmas festival. Marco does the first half in operatic tenor in Finnish. You will love his voice. Until, at the halfway point, Floor chimes in with her operatic soprano and your heart just melts and runs down into your shoes before she even finishes the first sentence. Her first half is sung in Latin, and then she finished in English. Here is my favorite version of it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mX7XfHpunbeBgpY

When you said “I hear harpsichord” I already knew you were special and when you said “did I hear Metallica?” - my smile was big! Dozens of people reacted to this piece, maybe hundreds, I don't know - do you know how many of them paid attention to these little nuances? One percent? No - maybe one promille. Great respect for you!

Also, I’m sure someone else had said this, but I have exactly read all these comments if you die further into Nightwish especially with floor there are some personal videos on her and she is an admitted empath and that is a different breed of person floor actually says in so many words that she can feel what’s going on around her and her reactions are in tune with what she is feeling and it’s amazing that she is trained in musical theater But even if she wasn’t, it would seem like she really has been. It just comes natural to her and that is scary good!!!!

If you can write and compose a song about the origin of Earth till the present day in 21 minutes and perform this to keep you captivating untill the last words, than i say Nightwish is one of the greatest bands on Earth today. Merry Christmas and greetings from the Netherlands🤯❤🤘💥💯🎅🎅🎄

Correct about the orchestral parts with the slight caveat that Tuomas does play some of those parts live on the keys, he said in an interview that obviously with only two hands he can't do it all. He also writes all the orchestral parts on the keys which are then orchestrated by the massively talented Pip Williams (not on the latest album due to ill health). As we're not too far past Christmas I think you might enjoy watching Floor and Marco singing Ave Maria together, so here's a link for you kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6WZppmrZ6iDhMksi=rwhhwIhGqRWsUJem

Great reaction for one of the most fundamental Nightwish songs. If you love Ann and Nancy Wilson you definitely must react to Floor performing Alone by Heart in her home studio during the pandemic. It's out of the world! kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5fYXqyGa9Zpfc0&pp=ygUSZmxvb3IgamFuc2VuIGFsb25l

Great Job! didn't cut it off just because you saw credits. In fact, NW values its crew more than many artists. When COVID shut down touring, most roadies were left without income. Not the NW crew. They were allowed to make their own covers of NW songs for sale under the group name Crewish, to sell merch under that name, etc. to earn money - and the NW group *promoted* it on their web site. Their names are proudly displayed in videos. NW has around 50 roadies. NW takes care of them and they take care of NW.

Your translation program has a Romanesque accent. The Finns were occupied by the Swedes in the Middle Ages and adopted their accent and culture. The emphasis is on the beginning of the word, not the end, and the R is stressed hard. It must sound like a Viking cursing as he falls down the stairs ;-) Although the Finns are not Scandinavians/Vikings in the strict sense, they are often counted as such because of the cultural proximity created by the occupation. Here is the pronunciation of the band members' names by a native speaker: How to pronounce the names of Nightwish (past & present) members in Finnish The song was released in 2015 and is part of the first album with Floor. The recordings began with Jukka Nevalainen on drums, but he had to give up shortly afterwards due to illness. He asked his friend Kai Hahto to step in temporarily. The temporary period lasted until 2019, when Kai officially became the new drummer. Jukka now works in the band's management. There are even more strong women in rock/metal. She is also the band's manager and you can hear and see that: Arch Enemy - 18.Nemesis Live in Tokyo 2008 (Tyrants of the Rising Sun DVD) Floor had already played symphonic metal in two bands before Nightwish. There is not only a singer on stage, but also a fan of Tuomas. In interviews she regularly raves about his compositions. She lives her dream on stage. Marko Hietala is one of the pioneers of Finnish metal. In 1985 he founded the heavy metal band Tarot with his brother, where the two are also the lead singers. In 2001 he joined Nightwish via a detour and replaced the first bassist. Unfortunately he left the band in 2021 and has been touring under his own name since then. In retrospect, depression turned out to be the cause, which was treated again. A new album will be released in February. Since he sings relatively high, he generally goes well with women's voices. Here is a current example: Patty Gurdy - I Am With You feat. Marko Hietala (Official Music Video)

Well done. Wow two of the three most magnificent and classic Nightwish songs. The third would be The Poet and the Pendulum written by Tuomas when he was very low due to the reaction from many fans after the sacking of the first singer Tarja Turunen. Originally performed by the second singer, Anette Olzon, but the version by Floor at Wembley 2015 is considered unmatched.

Nightwish’s big 3; Ghost Love Score, The Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show On Earth. All are masterpieces. There are actually several more because Tuomas, The Metal Mozart, is a musical genius!🎸🤘Troy starts out playing the low whistle then changes to ulliean pipes, a kind of Irish Bagpipe, inflated with an elbow pump.🎸🤘

Ja, there is a certain magic with HER. I am personally one of these folks who believe in the "Magic Door" theory......... There must be a magic door between off stage and on stage that turns the lovely, very down to earth person into the Valkyrie Goddess. The GODDESS (as I call HER and I am not alone with it) is the best female voice I heard in my 68 years on that planet. Great reaction. Rock on Mylady 🤘🤘🤘 Merry Christmas from the Nightwish Army South Germany.

@@TheRealMommaOG Oh, I forgot some facts about HER costume at this concert which you might be interested in. The colours are blue and white......the Finnish National Colours. The white applications are representing the human DNA helix.(album name: Endless Forms Most Beautifull) HER shoes are also blue and the high heels are white and are sculpted like a horse (or Unicorn?) head. SHE auctioned them for a good cause some years ago.

Just to let you know everything is timed down to the millisecond with all the lights fire explosions all connected to computers which is pre programmed and all the performers have a ear piece that has a clicking sound that tells them the tempo pf the song, and where tempo changes occur so everything is synced up and everything his highly rehearsed.

Just Floor. Last name is pronounced Yahn-sen. Yes, Loreena McKinnett does use the uilleann pipes in many songs. Love Loreena! The song is all about the evolution of our solar system, earth, and all of life. The words would help you to understand the concept of this epic masterpiece. Floor is captivating and easy on the eyes. Floor loves to sing for her fans. A master storyteller and ultimate stage performer. Floor does that crazy note to lead into the key change. Floor is special. Yes, you caught the Metallica reference. A nod to the evolution of music. If you are a profound thinker, you have found a special band. They love nature, humanity, and all things that are part of the human existence. Their last 3 records are dedicated to the universe, our existence, nature, and the beauty and wonder of everything that is. Never take life for granted. The 3 records are "Endless Forms Most Beautiful", Human I::I Nature", and the new one "Yesterwynde". You have so much more to experience and such deep thoughts to ponder!
