Nightwish is from Finland, he speaks Finnish and the concert was in Finland so obviously they all know the language 😊 They are more international nowadays with Floor from the Netherlands and Troy from England. The rest of the band still from 🇫🇮.

Interestingly, Marco’s unique voice is actually the result (or complication - believe it or not…) of prior vocal cord surgery to remove a benign polyp… He was advised by his ENT surgeon to not even speak for weeks afterwards… He was seriously concerned and distraught that he would never sing again…

The double-neck guitar was made popular by Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin... it would allow him to play two differently tuned guitars alternatively... Here, Marco Hietala (who is from Finalnd and was speaking Finnish in Tampere, Finland) has the double-neck w/ guitar and a bass (He's the bassist) ...Unfortunately, he quit Nightwish in 2021 after recording the Nightwish album 'Human II Nature'... he had been w/ the band since 2002. Marco Hietala has since released a solo album... He's older than the other members of Nightwish and had his own band Tarot in which he was the lead singer/bassist and they have a few albums... 'The Islander' was a Nightwish song he sang lead on... Others were - 'While your lips are still red'... 'Planet Hell' ... 'Bye bye beautiful' ... 🤘🤘🔥🔥

I concur. High Hopes is an older cut, but well worth it - especially if you are a fan of Pink Floyd. It is more a tribute to Pink Floyd than a cover. It also showcases Empuu's guitar chops. Another thing about the High Hopes tribute is that it was the concert after which they told Tarja she was being let go. At the time of the performance, Tarja was backstage doing a costume change. Marko is a huge rabbit hole worth exploring. He's got 40-50 years worth of music to explore. From his band Tarot to many other bands he's worked with to his solo work and managed all of this despite a botched throat surgery in the late 90s.

This one is so neat because in many songs Floor stands out spectacularly, but Marco is RIGHT THERE with her, matching her voice perfectly, adding even more substance. In one song, you see them come together then split in a spectacular, dramatic moment. Here Floor is in the reversed position, coming in late to add contrast, substance and resonance to Marco's part. As usual, they both sound fantastic. It is rare to see a band with TWO lead singers, and ones that have the talent and capacity to match to each other's styles as well as Floor and Marco did. He could do smooth or harsh, and she could match him. She could do brilliant and ethereal, and he would be right there with her. I wish him luck in the future, but I really miss having these two performing together.

Definitely High Hopes a Pink Floyd cover as others have rightly suggested. One listen and you will always be a Marco fan for life. He absolutely slays the vocals. Pink Floyd really liked it too. Concert was in Wembley England.

It is a combo - guitar and bass. Double neck as you say. Check also the video of this cause it gives feelings and so. Tampere is the in Finland - the home country of Nightwish - and they speak Finnish in Finland - not the most common in the US to hear.

Well, A lot to learn grasshopper 😁! Marko speaks Finnish (ex-Nightwish). He is Playing an Warwick Infinity / Panthera Double neck Bass and Guitar ( It is called THE BEAST). This "sea shanty" song is perfect for Marko "The Viking" Hietala. And, well, having Floor as your backup vocalist, you know you are a Legend, that Marko unquestionably is !!! Floor steps back out of the spotlight during a lot of songs. Guitar solos, Marko singing, Troy playing the pipes, whatever it is, Floor steps back from the mic out of the spotlight, while the others have their moment. Floor is a team player. She has said on multiple occasions that Tuomas (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish) makes Nightwish run, not her. NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.

I am so glad to see you doing another Nightwish reaction. Marko Hietala is often known as the Father of metal in Finland. His voice, as you have heard, is unique. Others have mentioned specific songs if you want to hear more from him. For more from Marko in Nightwish, I agree with High Hopes. From his solo album, Voice of My Father is wonderful. I actually like the version sung in Finnish "Isäni ääni." Finnish is such a lovely language, and in the Finnish version, the video isn't blurred like it is in the English version, because the sung words match.

Marko has been lead singer in metal since 1984 or so, so he definitely can sing. Might be the only male voice in Finland who can cover Ronnie James Dio and not sound inadequate - and he did that on some Sapattivuosi albums, covering Black Sabbath in Finnish. Nightwish Army south Brittany France reporting. As Marco has left Nightwish there are many opportunities to hear him sing with his new/old band, but its definitely not Nightwish. There are plenty of songs where Marco is solo or lead. High Hopes and Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red are highly recommended.

Especially when it comes out from the mouth of a Finn after 12 - 15 cold ones! Uffffg 🙈 💥 😹 #1 finnish #2 swedish #3 english, non-official lang. but taught in schools from the early age on to every Finn. In certain parts of FIN it's more common and widely used than our second official language.

That's simpler than it looks. That is a double neck guitar, but the higher neck is actually a bass neck. Literally a bass-guitar. It also sounds like a piezo pickup is installed (it gives more of an acoustic-like sound compared to a standard Electric Guitar clean sound)
