Marco comes from a small town known as Tervo. My grandmother is related to him in some obscure way (cousins' cousins' twice removed or something like that; people from small towns are usually related to each other) and she thinks he is just a some long-haired rebel who moved out of the town to play some music for fun. Once, I tried to explain to her that Marko is a world-famous musician, and I ended up feeling like I need to bang my head against a wall. Marco is so underappreciated here that it makes me cry.

Everyone knows Floor is the frontwoman, but it doesn't hide the fact that NIghtwish has 2 lead vocals! Marco is sooo god he could have his own band and sing! The best thing of all, is that Floor and Marco benefit so much from each other, their harmonies are sick, they sing so beautifully together, and their choruses are absolutely boombastic. Also, Marco can give Floor some vocal rest in a 2 hour concert, wihtout sacrificing frontperson quality. AWESOME. I subbed, btw, apart from your obvious knowledge on the subject (I am perplexed, you come up with the notes and melody of a song section after hearing it 30 seconds ago), you enjoy the performances as only a few youtubers do...

Honestly the quality is not top notch but i guess people are so used to the 8k "new standard" that apparently YOU MUST HAVE IT to put a video on youtube, in reality it's really just ok I bet everyone here is not here for the video quality but for the great reactions and analysies that you do. Honestly, it's amazing how me, a 28 year old boy grow up with metal bands find this channel incredibly interesting. And not for the nightwish videos (sorry, i'm a big tarja period fanboy, roast me :D) but for the passion you put in this video and for the incredibly clear tecnical explenation you can give even to someone that don't know anything about singing techniques! That said i highly suggest you to do a "voice teacher reacts to EVANESCENCE" video, not only i'm a big fan of them but because Amy's voice is something just... amazing If i can suggest some titles you should listen to "My Immortal", "Lithium" and "call me when you're sober".. those are in my humble opinion some of the best vocal exemple on amy's great voice I hope to see a new video soon, evanescence or not :)
@Pitchblackbones4 жыл бұрын
I'll be honest, I TOTALLY understand how it's easy to turn off your analytical mind with a truly transcendent song like The Islander. It's easily one of my favorite songs of all time, and I'm immediately transported to a waterfront far, far away from central Missouri. You're doing just fine with a song like this, and I still appreciate the nuanced commentary that you added in this video. To be clear, your musicianship, your critical commentary from 30 years of experience is powerful, it is *'meaningful* and I'm thankful for your contributions; but as a rabid nightwish fan for over half of my lifetime, I also come here to have the privilege of watching the wonder of new fandom flourish in someone's eyes. The shock, the thrill, the serenity, the intensity that a new fan experiences, it's beautifully nostalgic to me (and I'm confident in saying many others feel the same). So if you just need to be a fanboy for a period of time, fanboy away! That's JUST as enjoyable to me. You may want to take a look at Guylain Prince's model of reaction. As a professional literary theologian, and choir director, he puts a LOT of work into dissecting the lyrical commentary of each song. But his approach is very novel, and one that guarantees more views for the channel - he always begins with the first video, which is a simple reaction video, he makes commentary on the experience, how it impacts him, and his understanding of the subject matter. Then he makes a SECOND video, where he does his professional work, pulling the lyrics apart, putting them back together, inserting clips from the song to show how the track works so marvelously. I understand that you're a very busy man, and perhaps this is too much to ask of you, but this might be an effective means to divide your time into a) simple pleasure and appreciation of musicianship, and b) critical analysis, coupled with singing tips and tricks. Personally, I'm not horribly disturbed by your video quality, it's obviously not *brilliantly* crisp, and there *are* some definite concerns with compression problems (the video can be weirdly pixelated here and there, I see it most in the TV behind you) but if you never improved your camera, I wouldn't leave in a huff. With that being said, if you *did* decide to upgrade your camera to something accessible, I *DO* think the reach of your channel would improve, and it is a testament to your ability as a budding youtuber that it has reached 14k subscribers even WITH a "subpar" camera - many audiences simply refuse to watch low-quality video. If you don't have one already, you may want to consider opening up a Patreon account, where fans of yours could pay in for specialized content (perhaps from your other Inner Singer program?) Or unique request authority over the masses. If finances are a concern, regarding editing time or buying a better camera or video processing program, maybe your patrons can donate towards the cost of improving the channel? Something to consider! Well done so far, looking forward to seeing more!

As I was trying to describe to a friend of mine why I loved nightwish' songs (but didn't have the technical knowledge to put it into words), I came by this channel, and although I was looking for a technical analysis of Marco's singing, I was really delighted by how much joy, fun and pleasure you got from the song. I was thinking about writing that, and then you mentioned it in the video, and i find it amazing. It's really hard to know about something and ignore it for the sake of the enjoyment. People often forget about enjoying and focus on pure critique, and become cynic just because they know how it's done (and im talking about all aspects of life, or at least art, and not only singing). It's easy to find people saying nice things about good artists and easier to find critique on technical aspects of what is done, but having the capability to enjoy the art, and then give commentary about it, it's rare, and i appreciate it. I'll be subscribing now, not because you said some nice things about the music I like, but because of the pure joy on your face AND the comment on how you turn off the teacher in you.

What is more impressive is that his vocal cords aren't in sync anymore since a botched polyp removal in the late 90s. And still he does that. He just lives for the music, for singing and playing. I'm a fellow musician and wonder which stone I've been living under for the past hundred years never having heard of both Floor and or Nightwish. I only discovered Nightwish last week through watching various artists on Beste Zangers comparing them to the rubbish we get here in UK on similar type talent shows i.e. The Voice, X Factor etc and it was on that show that I heard Floor performing Phantom where she was great. Nightwish popped up a few times in the thumbnails but I never paid much attention to them but so glad I did and now I'm totally totally hooked. The best live performances I have ever heard and love your reviews as full of passion and your sheer amazement like mine at their talent.

Great reaction as always =) Video quality is just fine =) Now you need to do High hopes from The end of an era tour, that´s my favourite performance with Marco =)

His last name is pronounced He - etala. The i is an E as in "Even". Don't sweat the camera. It works and it is your choice. Don't they just have so much fun! A true team of professionals. So versatile and special. I love watching your reactions. A man who truly loves music with all of his soul. You nailed it a beautiful little slow down. Once again extreme dynamics are what makes music dramatic and emotional. Great job my friend. See you for the next one. Peace.

Video quality isn’t great but it’s not a big deal. I am among the Nightwish army and was able to see them in Maryland in 2015 and 2018. They really do support and enjoy each other. In the 2018 concert I had really closeup seats, and the 6 of them looked as happy as children on Christmas morning as they played their music for us. It was among the best concerts I’ve attended, and I am a senior citizen musician and I have been to many other great concerts. And I appreciate your reactions, I’ve heard so many NW reactions and you are among the best.

I love this song and Marko does such a beautiful job. How awesome is it that Nightwish is such a bountiful group they can do songs where Floor Jansen is the backing vocalist?
Tides by Tarot The fathers of Finnish metal. Marco and his brother play together live more 20 years ago. Masterpiece. Blows me away. Live everyone with an open mouth by reacting to that.!

"Ill stop and try to sound intellegent!" and then you go on to say some super insightful stuff! I know im late on this but, looking through your videos, you are quickly becoming one of my favourite reactors! Keep up the great work, sir!

Mr. Goodrich, another excellent reaction! You are always very thorough and analytical and I love it! Having said that, I have a little request though. You should try a band called Wardrum, their song called '' Lady Jane Grey''. Beautiful song, incredible singer named Yiannis Papadopoulos.I think you'll love it. Cheers!

Marco is a truly talented singer and musician. For me the best of Marco`s singing comes out in a cover band called "Sapattivuosi". As I am an old-school heavy metal fan. And so is Marco. Especially he appreciates RJD. They cover Dio´s era Black Sabbath songs. And if you dare cover Ronnie James Dio, you just have to do it properly. Get a taste, you will find what I am talking about :-) I´m an old chap, 56 years and I love to watch different kind of professionals analyze various music performances. You are the best I have watched this far and I have watched many. Just love the way you talk so respectfully about music and musicians. To hell with analyzing, let´s just enjoy :-D So true. Pleasure to watch your reactions from Finland, home of Nightwish. Hope you are safe and healthy Mike!

We're not here for the quality of your face or the background (blurry, absolutely) :D There are probably about a million others doing reactions, but yours are the rare, sought-after expert ones, which at least I'm constantly searching for. The video+sound quality of the content you react to matters and there's no complaint about that :)

Marko also has a solo album that's straight-up phenomenal. He goes through tons of different styles and emotions as well. If you check one song on that out, I suggest "Dead Gods Son", or the finnish version. There's not an official video version, but the audio is amazing.

I watch a lot of Nightwish reactions and yours are my favorites, because you do know what you’re talking about and you ARE so appreciative of the songwriting and performance. And I’ve never noticed anything wrong with your video quality...it’s fine. Some suggestions for future Nightwish reactions: from the Wacken 2013 show, Storytime, Everdream, Romanticide, and I Want My Tears Back.

To mix things up on the Nightwish side, you could look into some songs with Troy Donockley, the multi-instrumentalist, he also has a really warm voice. He sings lead in "Harvest", and has a really great duet with Floor on "How's the Heart?" which has a live acoustic version here on KZbin
