The "boy" was Tuomas - the keyboard player who chopped off his head figuratively (with his hand as a blade) on stage before you hear his heart stop. This song was literally about him, about things that happened to him after the band fired the first vocalist, and about his deep felt depression as a result of the backlash.

Excellent reaction. In case you don't remember the story behind this song Emma, it was wrote by the keyboardist Toumas when they sacked the first female singer Tarja. The band, and Toumas personally, got a lot of backlash by the fans and it drove Toumas into a depression and this song and others from the album were wrote in response to the sacking and the backlash. So parts in it like Marko and Emmpu going up to Toumas to make sure that he is ok (as he always found this one hard to perform) and the fact that Toumas kills himself in the song (he said so he didn't in real life) are clues. The last part is based on what Toumas' mother said to him when he told her. I am sure others will expend on the meaning more but just wanted to jog your memory a little. :).

@@Singwith-Emmatoday Thank you for re-reacting to Nightwish (especially with you not fully remembering the previous reactions). If you want to complete the trilogy of most requested songs, you could do The Greatest Show on Earth. The two best versions are the Tampere outdoor version or the Wembley indoor version, most prefer the Tampere version but I like both versions. It is a little on the long side at approximately 20 minutes long but well worth it. There is a new album just out this week if you want to react to new Nightwish songs/videos.

The boy soprano at the start was Guy Elliott from St Mary's Choir School, Reigate, UK. Something for everyone in this musically and lyrically. Nightwish has performed Phantom of the Opera many times! Live from 2004 with the first singer (and Marko as a beastly Phantom) was amazing - and then more recently with Floor and Henk Poort! (THE Dutch Phantom for many years!) Maybe this song means so much to me because I have the same birthday as Tuomas - keyboard player, composer, arranger, co-conductor - THE Metal Mozart! So glad he chose this way instead of leaving life in reality! (that's why the others in the band gathered around him at the end) WE NEED HIS MUSIC!

You improved. I find it hard to believe that you almost forgot this song. But I believe you. I am not really a Nightwish fan and certainly not a metal fan. But this is their masterpiece. I would almost put it on the same level as a classical music piece performed by a top orchestra. And I am also not a classical music fan.

Hello Emma! Long time has passed since I've last seen you react to Nightwish. I do like your reactions. Hopefully everyone here is doing good, I mean Emma and comment section as well. I'm doing okay. Finally the depression about my Mother and Father passing away 1,5 yrs ago and my Grandma dying last January. Took lot of time but feeling better. Anyways, lot's of love and hugs from Finland.

Nightwish has a lot of songs and if you want to react to a completely different style of Nightwish then I recommend while your lips are still red. It is the complete opposite of this otherwise powerful music but very emotional. I have to say I really like the reactions to this channel

In the middle of the song they use a special technique they call "echoing". I've never heard anyone else do that before and it's amazing. I'd love to see your reaction to this incredible group. For the longest time Tuomas had the sound engineers delete the vocals from the mix he was hearing because he just couldn't handle it. It was still too raw.

The Poet and the Pendulum is the song about there 1st singer Tarja Turnunen getting fired in 2005 , HERE IS MY INTERPRETATION OF THIS - The Poet and the Pendulum was written after firing Tarja the original singer. She was the face of Nightwish at the time, and Tuomas (Keyboards) wrote this and considered her a muse to many of the songs he had written at that point. They had also grown up in the same city and knew each other since early childhood. All the band members decided together to fire her for acting too much of a diva And her husband & Manager was stepping way outta bounds concerning the band business He always wanted more money , only big paying show but the band did it for the love of music and there fans . According to all the band members, Tarja was missing lots of rehearsals and would not even travel with the band anymore. Tuomas was painted as the devil by many fans, and went through a deep depression. He even considered ending the band . He wrote The Poet and the Pendulum at that time, and actually kills himself in the song. He said he killed himself in the song at the 10:00 time stamp , as to kill the pain he was going through . To this day every time he plays it, it takes him back to those feelings, and shows on his face. In the last part, Mother and Father, words are said to him that his real mother said to him at that time of his deep depression. One part that touches me at the end when the guitarist Emppu and bassist Marko, the only other two involved with firing Tarja (that were still active with the band at the time of this show )were standing with Tuomas at the end in solidarity and love., NOTE : the 1st two words are (The End) and the last two words are (The Beginning) representing the end of the 1st era of Nightwish and the beginning of the next era
