Your face was priceless when you realized that it was Floor doing the growling. Most reactors don't realize it!! Fun fact: Marko actually rewrote the music in this song. Marko and Tuomas used to work very close together on the songs. And Troy also started his influence on this album ( he rewrote My Walden). And Floor has free hands to interpretate and sing the way she finds most giving/ enhancing for the story. They have a unique way of creating their music. Great reaction from you 👍

The reactors' confusion on the vocal lines (you got it faster than most though!) is hilarious because once you've heard Marko singing his own stuff, his "melodic" voice is SO distinctive, you come back to this and wonder how people don't find it self-evident that he's singing clear.... The guitarist's name is pronounced "em-poo". And yes, that is a different drummer. The previous drummer, the one you see in the Wacken videos, is Jukka, but he had to step down due to severe insomnia. He is still working behind the scenes with the band though. This drummer is Kai Hahto, who was from the band Wintersun. He is one of the best drummers in the world. Probably has less flare and showmanship than Jukka, but an amazing drummer nonetheless.

I was surprised to see Jukka on D&B currently listed as CEO of Scene Nation OY (Finland) and Oily Empire Ltd OY. Both firms listed in Nightwish movie and video credits. Edited... Corrected company name. Tuomas recently confirmed in a fan Q&A that Jukka is the CEO of Nightwish now.

Regarding your question concerning the keyboard facade: This started several years ago. In the very beginning, he didn't have any ornaments to his instrument. Then people started telling him that he looked a lot like Jack Sparrow, so he stuck a little Jack doll to the keyboard stand as a joke (that was during the Once-tour in the early/mid 2000s, the doll is also visible on the live DVD). The ornaments have been getting more and more creative and bigger ever since. ^^

Kai Hahto is "The Human Metronome", or in my book Kai "The Machine Gun" Hahto ( is a Finnish musician and drummer). Not very animated , but his footwork, precision and stamina is insane !!!!! Kai Hahto is the drummer here and he is still their current one. The previous drummer Jukka, is now part of the band management. The two are friends and when Jukka stepped down, he recommended Kai. Kai has said that he isn't the showman that Jukka was, however, in later concerts Kai has put more effort into adding a bit more visual interest in his performances. He is a machine behind the kit and a very technically skilled drummer, but during these 2015 performances, he was leaving the showmanship up to the rest of the band. If you do the 2018 Buenos Aires concert, you'll see a somewhat more animated Kai. "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" or "Dead Boy's Poem" are both very good choices for that concert. This was part of the Decades tour where they revisited a selection of their older songs. Floor sang numbers from all three Nightwish singers. BTW, I hope that "7 Days to the Wolves" gets promoted up your list as the song strongly features Marko's bass, which you'll love, plus you'll get to meet their multi-instrumentalist, Troy Donockley.

Floor growls on a few NW songs, this is the most evident, Tuomas doesn't like growls. To listen Floor growling you should check her second band before NW, ReVamp, the songs Disdain and Wild Cards have a decent live recording.

Man, you’re gonna get your mind blown when you get to 7 Days to the Wolves. Yeah, Tuomas changes keyboard stands every tour. The tree one is from the Vehicle of Spirit tour, you also see tree thingies in Troy’s and Marko’s mic stand. And yeah, that’s indeed Floor doing the growling. It takes everyone by surprise lol. Re: drummer, that’s Kai Hahto, he joined the band during the recording of the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album due to Jukka’s health issues (he still remains in the management side of things). Kai’s original band, of which he is still a member, is Wintersun, which is freaking awesome. Like, seriously, if I had enough money to become a Patreon I would request Wintersun, probably with Sons of Winter and Stars, which is a freaking masterpiece. Marko is an amazing singer. There’s a reason why people joke that, out of Tarja, Anette and Floor, the best Nightwish singer is Marko. Not that much of a joke, as you can see! Tuomas' facades change per tour. Usually it has a theme matching the album or occasion they put up a tour. The Wacken show was part of the Imaginarium tour, which had like a show/carnival theme. This concert was part of the 'Endless Forms Most Beautiful' album tour, which has a nature/evolution theme, hence the tree shaped façade.

You picked up on the vocals earlier than most so no need to apologise - definitely the full package now, right? 😁 Jukka had to quit due to severe imsomnia, which I understand you can sympathise with - he's effectively the band manager now. I don't know much about drumming but those that do say Kai is the better technician, whereas Jukka is obviously the better showman. I saw in a recent interview that Kai is working on showmanship as he recognises its something he can improve.

Good pick up on the parts of Floor and Marko. A lot of reactors just completely miss it. Marko actually can sing very high. I think the keyboard stand is meant to be Groot. A few people have already said that the drummer here is Kai Hahto. He is also the drummer for Wintersun which would be a spectacular band for you to react to. I would suggest the song Time if you ever have time for it.

Jukka (Waken drummer) retired due to insomnia. Jukka recommended Kai Hahto of Wintersun, and he is now (and still) the drummer from 2014 to present. Kai is a metronome, period.... he isn't as laid back as Jukka, yet is just as talented, just diff style person. Guitar player, Erno Matti Juhani "Emppu" Vuorinen. Emppu is pronounced "M-Poo".

The guitar player's full name is Emppu Vuorinen (two "p"s in his first name, one "u"). In Finnish, whenever you have double letters as in the two "p"s in "Emppu", it's a long sound. Single letters are always short sounds. No exceptions. I don't think you have any long consonant sounds in English - at least I can't think of an English word with a long consonant off the top of my head. To hear how "Emppu Vuorinen" is pronounced, google "how to pronounce Emppu Vuorinen", and click on the first link. (KZbin doesn't seem to allow me to give a direct link.)

It's interesting to me when people who've definitely heard Marco and Floor sing together and separately in different Nightwish songs, still mistake Marco's vocals as Floor at first. When I first watched a video of Nightwish performing this, I knew right away that Marco was singing the melodic line because whilst he and Floor mesh well, they definitely do not sound alike. I don't know if I picked up on the growling right away, but I think the growling isn't as loud in the mix so it kind of went under my radar for the first couple bars. It's just interesting to see this keep happening with reactors. I think it says a lot about the expectations set up by our culture. Even though death growling isn't my favorite, I do like the sparing way Nightwish utilizes that technique in this song for emphasis. I think a little really goes a long way. I haven't yet been able to get into metal genres that utilize death growls and screaming as the main vocal style throughout the entire song.

I hope I'm able to describe the pronunciation in a sensical way: Finnish is a very phonetical language, so everything is pronounced exactly as it's written. So, *Emppu is pronounced with short staccato vowels, stress on the first syllable.*

Floor is doing the growls. Marco has problems doing growls because of his throat surgery. Tuomas is a genius and they call him a musical Mozart. Definitely do some Marco performances.

I love their showmanship too. Young Emppu is pronounced Em-poo. The drummer here is Kai. He had been a session drummer for them for some time, but as Jukka (Yookah) had to retire due to health issues Kai has became their regular drummer. (Jukka has come to grips with his health now and is well. He is still working with Nightwish behind the scenes.) I see them as Jukka is a show pony whereas Kai is a work-horse. I love the work from both of them.

With your good ear, I'm a bit surprised you didn't pick up who is doing what, during the first chorus. I remember you saying during GLS that you thought you had seen Floor before. IIRC you also mentioned somewhere, having listened to Soilwork's "Let this River Flow". Floor did a guest spot in that song and she was growling down to the C2/D2 range along with Björn. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6q7c2p5d5t3o7c. It's a bit mind boggling to hear her growl that low and then hit an F6 in another song. For the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album (which this song is on), Tuomas challenged Floor to sing both lower and more softly. I think the challenge was accepted. ;) BTW, that's three 9.2s in a row for Nightwish. You're gonna break your score calculator when you get to "Poet and the Pendulum" and "Greatest Show on Earth". And throw away that timer for those as well. Bring snacks and a bevy: you'll need them.

On Wacken 2013 live you've seen the keyboard decoration as "organ" pipes is also a sorta tribute to a late Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. There's a statue in the capitol(Helsinki) here in Finland🇫🇮 where it's copied from. And as many of us knows Tuomas is a Huge Disney fan, figure it out from that. Will never understand how to confuse this. Marco's standard voice can be clearly heard. What remains is the crowling and that can only be Floor. You know what's great about your rant? the act that you're doing this TO THIS EXACT SONG!!!! Tuomas wrote this song about all of the internet trolls that said that Nightwish was finished because no Tarja = no Nightwish. So he wrote this exact very song to address those trolls: Yours is an Empty Hope. Now, about Marko. Everyone already told you about his singing and Floor's growling. But one thing about Marko is that he had a botched vocal chord surgery, that resulted in him losing his entire falsetto range, so while he was able to relearn how to sing, all of his range is in his chest voice, and that is even getting as high as a G4. So think on a guitar, G string, 18th fret. He's that good. Rumor had it that at some point he had hired a vocal coach to help him relearn how to sing.. some unknown vocal coach named Floor Jansen. :) Don't know if there's truth to the rumor, but that was what has circulated. However, I'm surprised that you hadn't mentioned anything about Marko's tone from his bass! That was the Warwick Vampire he was playing, and that bass tone is sick! Now, I don't know if we should introduce you to Troy (he plays everything in Nightwish!), or let you loose on something where Marko sang lead.. You know.. to hell with it: Next should be The Islander, live at Tampere, followed by Weak Fantasy from this same Wembley show, followed by I Want My Tears Back, from Buenos Aires or Wacken; preferably Buenos Aires, because Troy's vocals are higher in the mix. After those, and a little bit of reading, you'll be ready for the reaction that will get you eat your words and give out that 10 that you say you don't give.

Continuing on the keyboard facade, the facades match the theme of the tour. The Wacken show part of the Imaginaerum (misspelled intentionally) the theme of the album was imagination, and childhood innocence. So the keyboards looked like something Jules Verne would have created. The next album, Endless forms most beautiful was more of a science, and nature theme. So the facade looked more like a fossil. The one thing in common Korg, always Korg.

As I watched and you went to Marko on the growls I was laughing because I knew you would catch it and when you did would be .... FLOOOOOOOOOORED! For Marko on vocals there are many to consider. The one that will truly move you is Nightwish doing their tribute / cover of Pink Floyd's High Hopes. I wish I could jump on your patreon to bump that to the top but the financial hit from covid makes it impossible. Yeah, don't feel bad about not realizing who is growling and who is singing clean lines right away, you haven't really heard Marko sing clean yet -- and you're in for some treats, the guy is an incredible and versatile singer in his own right. And that is indeed a different drummer: Kai is a powerhouse, but a considerably more chill and subdued in his playing style compared to Jukka who truly had possibly the greatest stage presence of any drummer I've ever seen. Incredibly charming dude, too, he is missed. (Oh, and just to reiterate: it's Emppu, not Empuu. Two p's, not two u's. 😁)

The opening for this concert was Shudder Before the Beautiful. I know how much you are into show openers. Most vocalists sing what they can. Floor sings whatever she wants. Therein lies the difference between good and great. This is a song I really have just discovered myself not too long ago, so the analysis was a great thing for me. Gives me a greater appreciation. That was one of the best reactions I've seen on this channel and on KZbin and it was great entertainment, especially the one about the growling of Floor. Floor is able to growl and sing in opera style, which is really not very healthy for a voice. Therefore she belongs to the elite singers in rock/metal in these days. The former drummer Jukka Nevalainen left or took a break because of chronic insomnia. The new drummer is Kai Hahto. one of the best drummers in the world. He is from Wintersun a excellent metal band also from Finnland. Wintersun are also called "The small Nightwish" only in Death Metal style. I think you will also react to Wintersun soon.

He served as their bassist and lead vocalist and now that you've heard his pipes in action as it were, you can tell why!
