My favourite song of all time and took that title the day it was released. I bought the cd and rushed home to listen to it. Nothing from the album Lateralus had been leaked. I had waited 5 years for new Tool. This opens the album. I hit play and I'm left open mouthed. As soon as it finished I hit repeat and did that 4 more times before getting to the 2nd track. I don't think this song will ever be replaced as my #1. I've listened to this song thousands of times and still occasionally hear new bits I had missed before (or forgotten from age!). I was just stunned until the CD spiraled out. The way they go completely different and strange without any disturbing. This tone they have is making all that weird changes bearable... and this living drum machine in the back. They are just awesome. They made a huge part of myself thinking as musician. You know what? Hey David, I went to the same thing with my first connection with Tool's music in 1992. (yep I'm old, but feeling young) Undertow was great, nice songs, the harchness and agressive tone of the album blew me away, but I was not in love, just a perfect album for area. It took then a long time, untill Schism was played in the mainstream that I was hooked. I've bought the album Lateralus and from then on the whole back catalogue. Lateralus (album) for me is still there legacy. It was a different Tool comparing to Undertow, more of my music taste then, so I was swallowed in, going deep into the rabbit hole. You're right about the prog-rock label, tool does it different, they make it grove, follow the impuls, the heart, but make it complex so it keeps interesting. They are able to make the complex sounds like a simple pulse and that's what I miss in other prog-rock music, the heart, the emotion, the forward pulse is lacking. I'm not into shredding, I find a single note merely more interesting when it's well placed than a bar of uncountable notes, but hey, that just me. Love your reaction by the way. Subscribed, I want to see you going in as well.

@LanceThompsonKssooner3 жыл бұрын
So apparently he tried to make it 29 seconds to correlate to Saturn's 29 year cycle. Most people say it's about 27. It also thrashed his voice and it was the end if recording. He doesn't do it live.
