@nightwrencher, I'm a fan of your page. I've left you some comments before. You are a seriously badass dude and very effective teacher, very good at explaining things. I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction, and I apologize for having to ask this here but I have tried asking everywhere else. Basically I have a 78 el Camino, supposedly has a crate motor with like 8k miles on it. I left the headlights on, battery died, tried an everstart jumper box and it was too weak, then I got a jump off from a Honda, and while it was warming up I smelled fire and shut it off. There's an aftermarket 30amp fuse they seem to have wired to the starter, because it was totally melted and catching fire, and it wouldn't turn over again at all til I replaced the fuse holder tonight. It then blew both a 20amp and a 25amp fuse I tried, and I had to use my harbor freight jumper box since the battery was still too dead. Both fuses blew while it was running, after successfully starting the car with the harbor freight jumper box. I'm afraid to try a 30amp again since it melted before on a 30amp. So the last time I started it, with that 25amp fuse, like I said it blew while the car was running, and the wires had gotten very warm before it blew. So I was going to just try to drive it home and then the headlights got dimmer until they cut out completely. Still have turn signals (the grounds of which I just fixed a couple days ago), still have brake lights but no tail lights, and still have flashers unless the brakes are pressed. Can you point me in the right direction? From what I hear it's very odd to have a fuse going to the starter

Hey bud, you have a whole mess going on in that car. First of all, there is no fuse that goes to the BIG starter wire. 30amps is barely enough for 2 fans, much less a starter circuit. I dont have a video on wiring the starter yet but if you want some circuit protection you can use a starter solenoid to cut off power to the starter, if. Not, you can wire it direct. You should have a dedicated fues for just your running right circuit and then one for each side of the head lights so 3 15amp fuses. If you are running everything off the stock wiring harness, you'll have to make sure none of the wires have melted. Id say, rewire that starter first and go from there.

@@NightWrencher I just now got to read your response. Thank you so much. You are so awesome dude. I sincerely appreciate you. Yeah it had no issues til I left the dang headlights on, apart from the turn signal grounds. I'm going to go through it and check everything I can check probably tomorrow
