Endgame play is a lot about patience. Check out this game between one of the rising stars of Indian chess Nihal Sarin and the no.1 player from Africa Bassem Amin. Learn from their game as to how to grind a slightly better endgame to victory! Also it was very nice to see how Nihal was slightly apologetic towards his opponent after the victory. It's typical of the wonderful person that Nihal is.

A young 17 year-old man has lots to teach to the world about these words - “respect” and “humility”. Kudos to Nihal for being an absolutely classy gentleman.

Nihal finally pushed his pawn to f3 after 48 moves without a capture or pawn move. That's insane.

He's so humble, I like him as a player. So respectful and kind, and a beast in the board

For those who are curious on why did he apologize, or regarding the situation of the endgame... The game is drawn with perfect play- Black needs to keep the Queen on board with checks, positioning the Queen and King at times to prevent the King from coming close and won't be forced into a double attack for the exchange of the Queens like what happened right at the end. Of course it's going to be difficult playing perfectly with only 2 secs max for each move to think. As a chess player myself, I could understand the dilemma of respecting another GM and accepting the draw at any point during the endgame but Nihal here continued to grind- and rightfully so and gets rewarded. Imagine playing everything right up to the end... surely Bassem fought well and felt disappointed as seen at

To convert a queen pawn endgame with such finesse under tremendous time pressure is absolutely incredible. Nihal OP.
