7:09 sometimes R3s are used in algorithms to make it flow better (for example, with R' U R' U' R3 U' R' U R U R2 an R' makes more sense, but we do R3 to be able to do it without relocating our grip on the cube) In the case of that algorithm you showed, you can see that after it there are many back to back R's, so that R R R is done to minimize hand movements

yeah, ergonomics is key in speedsolving, the R3 instead of the R' in that case actually avoids a regrip as said earlier and helps with speed

at 7:10, the reason it's suggesting R R R instead of a single R' is due to optimizing for regrips (at least that's what i think) if you hold the cube with your left thumb on the F face, and the remaining left fingers on the B face, then take your right thumb and place it on the U face, with the remaining right fingers on the D face, you'll be able to do the algorhithm with 0 regrips. the way to get 0 regrips may not make sense at first, but try doing the first U move with your left index finger with a pushing motion. if you instead were to hold the cube in the natrual ("home") grip - that's with both thumbs on the F face, with the remaining fingers of both hands on the B face - you'll have to regrip multiple times to do the algorhithm. couldn't think of a good way to word all of this, so i hope this at least makes some sense!
@NihongoGamer2 ай бұрын
Ooh I hadn’t realised that. Thanks!! That sounds like a reasonable explanation for it. Still, I wish the app had more options for algorithms or a good system to import your own
@badandslo2 ай бұрын
@@NihongoGamer the algorithm there is written how it would be executed, R R R (we call it rolling R3) is executed as a regular R2 followed by an R done by your index at the end. This "fingertrick" allows faster execution of algorithms by avoiding regrip that would be caused by an R'.

Just wait til you go down the rabbit hole of larger cubes, nice 7x7 cubes are crazy expensive. For only being 3 months in, your flicking is easily good enough to go under 30 seconds currently, maybe even 20. If you're that efficient with your movements, and are still at 50-60 second solves, you're probably moving faster than your recognition can keep up with. Try slowing down with your f2l, and think about the exact movements you're gonna do to pair the edges with corners, execute, then find the next pair. You can cut 10-20 seconds by just doing that (Assuming you're already doing intuitive f2l, which if you're not, you should)
