Nice video, in my homespot we get so much shorebreak that im closer to the waterstart than the beach start, although when i went to another spot which was flatter i did it first try

Thanks! Yeah agreed, much easier to do in the flat water. Cool that you got it first try!

When i started with beach starts a couple of years ago, realized that with a big wide board you get a big long fin. That makes you have to have ypu start practicing thigh deep, which is a lot harder than the shin deep with small fins and small boards that the advanced surfers have.

This is a really good point and something I’d forgotten about having been on such a small fin for a long time. This will also be the case with a lot of freeride boards. I remember learning myself on a freeride board and at a spot where the water got deep quite quickly. I would say that the technique is still the same but as you say “it’s harder”. So the only way to make it easier is to either find a spot like a lagoon or lake where the depth of water is fairly level and the other thing would be to use a smaller fin. I also know that a lot of the newer beginner boards have fairly small fins on them which actually makes it great for learning the beach start and some windsurf schools even chop the fin in half which also helps. So if I was learning to beach start again I would practice on one of these boards until I was ready to use a smaller board with a bigger fin.
