Whenever I've used the Detail Extractor in Nik in the past, my images always came out looking like an overdone HDR. Now that I have watched this tutorial, I have reprocessed some from years ago and now they look so much more natural. Thank you so much, Dave ;)

The Detail Extractor Filter is one of my favorites in NIK Collection. I too apply it locally with control points and now will also use Photoshop masking. Looking forward to a video on Control Points. Thanks Dave.

Hands down my favorite NIK tool, followed by Pro Contrast. I love using Detail Extractor for feather detail on bird photos.

I think it is quite apt that you have used the second image at this sad time. The building is Glas-allt Shiel on the shores of Loch Muick (pronounced Mick) in the Cairngorms National Park here in Scotland. It also lies within the Balmoral Estate. On a couple of occasions, we have come across the Queen and several members of the Royal Family having a BBQ at this location. R.I.P The Queen of Scotland

Hi Dave, I'm new to your channel and I love it!! I'm learning a lot. I may need to go back through your video because 99.9% if the time you are spot on with your training video. I brought the Nik Collection sight unseen. Because you sold me on TK8, "which I love". The problem I have with this video, I never used the Nik Collection 5. I had a hard time finding the "detail extractor". I did find it and maybe that's a testimony to your training. I do love this new plug-in Nik Collection 5. Thanks!

Your NIK filter series is extremely helpful. With your excellent guidance, I am finally starting to go beyond only using Tonal Contrast. As for a tutorial about Control Point, may I recommend a tutorial similar to the one you did comparing the TK Triple Play to alternative methods. In this case using a Control Point vs creative masking in Photoshop. Thanks Dave for another awesome tutorial!

As always, thank you for enriching my arsenal of work Nick COLLEKTION 5. Until now, I used the detail extractor, but used checkpoints because Photoshop was like "black magic" to me. Thanks to your creativity, I get to know both programs and it is easier for me to work with them. / Greetings from Poland from the city of "Fortress Przemyśl".

Nice tool Dave - I first did not use it because the first look was a bit too ugly, but the way you made it looks very fine. Today there was an update for the Nik 5 too. You asked if there is interest for making a little video, maybe with download links to stockfotos, about using the control points. Would be great!

I broke down and upgraded. I can't remember how to sort actions in the TK8 Actions Panel. Easy to point me in the right direction? Thanks for all your terrific videos!
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly2 жыл бұрын
Donald try the Action I have in the Description of this video. It will open up the Nik Selective Tool. I like to shut off the Nik Selective Tool in the Preferences of the Nik Selective Tool so it doesn't always open at the start of Photoshop. I Click the Action in the My Actions Panel and just grab the tool when I need it.

Unfortunately, I don't use Photoshop or Lightroom, so I lost all your explanation using those two apps. Do you plan to do the same thing, but using Windows instead? That would be really nice.

Another amazing demonstration with a load of interesting ideas and ways how to do it. I just have one question, Dave...in fact... the same as a while ago. What is the situation with the control Points? The concept is great - I was using them all the time in the previous versions, but now is still confusing. Applying + to the desired area and finessing it with - is not possible, because they are both white and as a user, you have no idea, where the hell selection is going. I tried to get some answers or ideas from them and from other forums, but for now - close to nothing, Would you be able, Dave, to explain in detail for other users as well, the " secret" of Control Points and maybe, as an authority in the field, get some explanation from the Developers? Keep up with a good job and enjoy your day as full as possible.... ;-)

Use it most of the time. I use the control points. For me then I dont need to use Photoshop.

I do have some issues on my M1 laptop. I find if I don't slide the sliders but just Click where I want the change it doesn't seem to crash. Also I am running Photoshop in Rosetta. I heard a new update is coming.
