Thank you for your tutorial, Dave. I'm really excited about this new version of the Nik Collection so I went ahead and clicked on your affiliate link, put the Nik Collection 7 update in my shopping cart and then applied your discount code. However, the system return a message indicating that the code did not apply to my purchase. That means it only applies to an outright purchase of the Nik Collection but not to an upgrade. So, I went ahead and canceled out. I wanted to let you know in case there is a bug in the system. I'm committed to upgrading and I want to use your affiliate link but if I don't get the discount then maybe I can wait for Black Friday or some other time when the upgrade may go on sale and then use your link at that time even if the discount code does not work. Sorry for rambling...Thank you!

I feel they keep tinkering with each suite 5.6. and now 7; my Nik 6 is only 6months old and now they bring out version 7 its starting to get a cost implication....Think they may of lost me as a customer and I will stay with TK . Thanks for the video

It's not cheap is it? I'm doing like you and just sticking with the Nik6 collection (that was $149.95!) I purchased less than a year ago and putting most of my effort in mastering the TK 9 panel with all it's powerful options.

Thanks for the tutorial. OK, you've convinced me. The new U Point functionality is very powerful, so I guess I'll do yet another upgrade. I think I started with Nik 3, plus I have all of the other DxO stuff (PhotoLab blows way LR for RAW conversion, IMO). It keeps adding up, but that's the CODB if you want the best editing software (still better than renting Adobe). Too bad there's no filter to get rid of those power lines (but there are other alternatives for that).

Good presentation. After arriving in Germany in 1969, I sold the Pentax I’d bought in the Cam Rhan Bay BX in 1968 and purchased a Minolta SRT-101, two lenses, and the world’s first electronic flash (Minolta) and have been taking photos ever since. The 50mm lens (f/1.8, I think) had a switch for shooting either macro or regular. Frequently, the squadron gave away nearly expired 32ASA high contrast B/W film and I got a 200’ roll. So, when I wasn’t shooting something, I was seeking discarded 35mm cassettes I could reload (BTW, I also did my own developing). Is there any way I could convince you to spend some time with Silver Efex to help me get reacquainted (30% of my shots in MI were B/W) and get my groove back in AR?

I was an enthusiastic NIK starting with Version 3. It played well with PS Smart Objects ... until Version 4 came out. Thet version would not allow re-editing of Version3 Smart Objects (or side-by-side installation of the two versions). Version 5 did not fix that ... and note that NIK support verified this backward incompatibility. I abandoned NIK upgrades keeping Version3 only to be able to replace a v3 NIK Smart Object layer with a similar edit using ACR. Perhaps you, or a follower, might test if v7 has any backward compatibility issues with previous version Smart Object layers.

So now we don't need TK9? Could you have done all that you did for this tutorial just using the TK9 panel instead? If yes, it would be neat in the future if you could post process an image with Nik7 and then do the same but using the TK9 Panel. It would be interesting to see the differences in speed and quality, if any. Thank you for the nice video on Nik 7 Dave.

This is not my preferred way of editing, but it is an option. I find TK9 to be much quicker and with a lot more options like Blend If, Saturation/Vibrance Masks, Actions, Mask Calculators, Luminosity and Zone masks with refinements, depth maps, Color Masks, Edge Masks and the list goes on. There is really no comparison between TK9 and the NIK Collection 7. It is nice however, that DxO made the NIK Collection 7 a whole lot better. With my TK9 experience I am able to show NIK users the options that they do have available with the new NIK Collection 7. I'll be doing more videos showing how these masking options are great when you apply them to the different filter effects in Color Efex. This way you don't need to settle for global filter effects. Now for me personally: I would apply the filter effects a bit on the strong side and send the image back to Photoshop and apply TK9 techniques to them to get them to look the way I want. But I realize everybody doesn't use TK9 and the new features in the Nik Collection are viable options for those who don't use TK9.

@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Thank you Dave for the helpful answer. I think both are great options but I really love the TK9 Panel with all it's power and really want to master it so I can be half as good as you are.

@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Dear Dave, you are addressing a very important question here. Your answer is spot on and I really appreciate your clear and honest answer. 👋 Nik can't hold a candle to the TK9 plug-in, especially when it comes to post-processing landscape photos. I will try the Nik Collection for post-processing portraits at best.

Great video, Dave! When drawing a neutral polygon selection, do you have to hold the option key the whole time or just at the start?

Is there a way to save a preset as a filter or at least after using a preset to add a second preset to a image without closing nik then going back in?

as much as I use Nik collection, I've run into 2 major barriers (for me) and that is the lack of addition filters, effects and frames. the software has a limited number and there doesn't seem to be any way, or sourse for additional frames or effects. For me this is a major obstacle when working on a series. The second there doesnt appear to be any way to apply the final image settings to new images
